Just Thinking...
Dear Church,
Most of us have personally said, or have heard someone say, what is commonly referred to
as the “Lord’s Prayer”, recorded in Matthew 6:9-13. It begins, “Our Father, in heaven,
hallowed be your name.” In the workbook study, “The Prayer of Jesus” by Ken Hemphill, the
author makes an interesting statement. He said, “For years I prayed the Lord’s Prayer in a
mechanical fashion, not paying attention to what I was actually saying.” How many of us
have done the same thing? We repeat this prayer without giving much thought as to what it
contains or how it is to involve us in a very intentional way. After all, when we pray this
prayer, we are not giving God permission to have a “holy name”. God’s name is holy
because God, by nature, is holy…
The author states that the Lord’s Prayer is best understood as a personal commitment on our
part to hallow God’s name in our lives. Loved ones, we are called by the name of Christ…as
Christians we bear His name. We represent Him. Think about it loved ones. Maybe the first
picture, the first impression that a lost person sees of what Christ is like is us. What sort of
picture of Christ does your life reveal?
1 Peter 1:13-16 states, “Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled, set your
hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children,
do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who
called you is holy, so be holy in all you do for it is written; be holy, because I am holy.”
I invite you to pray this prayer with me…”Lord, hallowed be your name…in me and through
me…Amen.”
See you Sunday!

A Book Review from the Library Team!
An Amish Romantic Mystery is the billing for this book, Anathema, by
Colleen Coble. A young Amish girl is besieged with secrets and learns
that pain and suffering of being not able to forgive the killer of her
parents. Threatened with ‘shunning’ if she does not forgive, she runs
away. This story is a mystery that keeps the reader turning the pages
past bedtime. Will Hannah find forgiveness and belonging that she
desires? Do we have secrets and the need to forgive in our own hearts?

The Gospel Unleashed
When: Oct. 3-Dec.19, 9:45 A.M.
Where: Room 115
Who: All Interested
Teacher: Jim Mote, John Meyer
When we read Acts, we are reading the never-ending story of Jesus. We see how Jesus
worked through the church in the first century, and we are invited to see how our lives
can be an ongoing part of the never-ending story. When we view the book that way, it
takes on a whole new significance for us. Is there a pattern for the church in Acts? Yes. It
is Jesus. It is our hope that as you read participate in this 12-week study, you will see
Him better and be equipped to continue living out His life in your community of faith as
His witnesses to the ends of the earth.
The Foundations Class is a group of adults that focus on book studies and
welcomes all ages of adults. Each week, we will take a portion of Scripture from a
designated book and discuss how it impacted people then, and how it impacts us
now. We are currently meeting in room 114 at 9:45 A.M.
