I am looking forward to taking Mason, (my grandson) out in the stroller. Thank you to everyone who helped on our annual “Spring Clean Up Day”. We accomplished a lot of 10 minute jobs; afterwards we enjoyed a nice lunch. In the last couple of month’s we have had to cancel trips due to lack of participation. I have been told that people inquire about a trip but when they find out only 1 or two people have signed up they say “oh well if only two people have signed up it will probably cancel”. The travel companies call several times before the trip and want the numbers, and when we have to say only 2, that is when they decide to cancel. But if your name was on the list then we may have been able to say we have 10 or whatever. It would more likely have gone out had we said that. You will always get your money back if the trip cancels. Remember the trip will more likely go out if the numbers are there. I want to thank Darlene (also known as the bread lady). She is very faithful about bringing the bread to our Center on a regular basis. I have a special request. I witness something on Tuesday, May 8, while Darlene was TRYING to unload the bread out of the bread box. I frankly was quite disturbed to see that people were shoving her aside to get their hands on the bread. Instead why don’t you be considerate and wait till she is done, or help her unload the bread. I would hate to see this wonderful program have to come to an end, all because some people are rude. But I will not allow this kind lady to be treated like that. Zumba Gold is back. We are happy to announce that Kimberly is our new instructor. The fee remains the same, $5.00 per session. Meeting dates are on Monday’s at 9:30 a.m. & Thursday’s at 11:45 a.m. Wojo’s Garden Center on Court St. just west of Irish Rd. has offered us the opportunity to host a fundraiser. If you go to Wojo’s on Friday June 1st & or Saturday June 2nd. They will give us 10% of the total of your bill as long as you mention that you are from “The Davison Area Senior Center”. What a wonderful opportunity for us. I would like to take this opportunity to say “THANK YOU” to Will Davis & Chris Campbell from the Computer Doctor’s for the very generous amount of time and energy they have invested in the Senior Center by offering to teach our Computer Classes. They are exceptional in all aspects. Teaching, workmanship and troubleshooting. Remember, each and everyone of you make us what we are today… “A SUCCESS”. This should be printed and kept in your car, purse, and wallet. Good information to have with you. There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it: FIRST: EMERGENCY The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find Yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an Emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interesting, this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out. SECOND: KEYS LOCKED IN CAR Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone. If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold you cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock doors. THIRD: HIDDEN BATTERY POWER Imagine our cell battery is very low. To activate: press the keys *3370#. Your cell phone will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell phone next time. FOURTH: DISABLE A STOLEN PHONE To check your mobile phone’s serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: *#06. A 15-digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down, this number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it 810.658.1566 • Continued... somewhere safe. If your phone is stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won’t get your phone back, but at the least you know that whoever stole it can’t use or sell it wither. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones. AND FINALLY… FIFTH: FREE DIRECTORY SERVICE Cell phone companies are charging us $1 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don’t have to. Most of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem. When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial 800-FREE411 (or 800.373.3411) without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now! Congratulations! New Advisory Board Members Term Starts June 1st Beth Brancheau, Terry Chittle, Duane Combs, Joan James, Carolyn Roberts & Debby Wilson Reminder… Please try to have the correct amount of money when paying for a class, program or trip.
