Bohuslän West Coast Tour 3 days Experience the beautiful Bohuslän coast on this 3 day tour! You travel along the glittering ocean where the sea meets the granite cliffs. Visiting authentic fishing villages that nowadays are lively summer resorts and enjoying the delicacy of fresh seafood. On a boat we will experience the 5 km long Sotecanal that was dug out to create a secure passage for the ships instead of them sailing on the worst-fated Sotefjord. You will also get the opportunity to discover the Tanum World Heritage. The rock carvings in this region are outstanding examples of Bronze Age art of the highest quality. Day 1 Pickup in Gothenburg. You will have a qualified tourist guide from Gothenburg along all day. Your first stop is Bohus Fortress. The building of Bohus Fortress began in 1308 by the, then, king of Norway, Haakon V Magnusson as a defense of the south Norwegian border. It is told that Bohus was one of the largest, strongest and most massive fortresses in the north. You continue the tour to the small town of Skärhamn. Right by the sea you will enjoy a delicious lunch at Restaurant “Vatten” (“Water”) before you enter the doors to the Nordic Watercolor Museum. The museum is meetings point for art. Here you get some free time and you can choose to walk into the town of Stenungsund for some shopping or just relax by the pool at the Bluewater Sports- and Health Club (fee SEK 195) before the 3-course dinner is served in the hotel restaurant for the evening. Day 2 This day you have a qualified tourist guide from Bohuslän along who will tell you everything you need to know about this beautiful region. The first stop this day is the picturesque fishing village Mollösund. Mollösund is one of the country´s oldest fishing villages. The picturesque guest harbor with its cozy boathouses and houses built in the West Coast-style are well protected from harsh weather and usually packed with sailing boats. Around 12:00 you will be on the Island Flatön. In the 1940s the well known Swedish poet and troubadour Evert Taube spent some summers on the Island. He became a very good friend with the merchant Gustav Johansson. Taube wrote about his friend in his songs and called him Handelsman Flink, (“The merchant Flink”). Johanssons store is still running today and next to it is also the Restaurant Handelsman Flink, were you will enjoy a delicious lunch. After lunch you continue up north along the Bohuslän coast until you reach the town Smögen. Smögen is one of the most popular summer destinations on the Swedish West Coast, well known for its fish, prawn and other seafood. The second biggest, and the most modern, of Sweden´s three fish auctions, is located here. The famous Smögen pier is made of wood and is 600 meters long. All along it you´ll find shops, restaurants and bars. Now it’s time for a boat ride for approx 3 hours. You will cruise up Sotecanal, 4,8 km long and dug out in the 1930s. This unique environment is today a protected area, Hållö Nature Reserve. During the II Word War a Gripen courier airplane flying between Aberdeen in Scotland and Stockholm in Sweden was shot down by a German Junker, JU 88 and crashed on the Island of Hållö. 15 people were on board the plane but only 2 survived the crash. After the boat cruise it´s time to check in to the hotel, Smögens Hafvsbad. The relax and spa area with pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and gym are available for all guests in the hotel. Bathrobe and bath slipper are also available for your comfort. A 3-course meal will be served in the restaurant of the hotel. From the restaurant you have a stunning view over the sea and hopefully one of the most beautiful sun settings you have ever seen. Day 3 On the third day the bus leaves the hotel around 10:00. Before that the breakfast has been served in the restaurant of the hotel. You are now heading to a very special place, Tanum World Heritage. The rock carvings in the region of Tanum are outstanding examples of Bronze Age art of the highest quality. These magnificent pictures, some carved 3000 years ago, bear a unique testimony to the Bronze Age world. These powerful images have the ability to speak directly to the modern onlooker. The rock carvings in Tanum were added to UNESO world heritage list in 1994. A guide from Vitlycke museum will join us for 60 minutes to show us rock carvings and tell us about this fantastic heritage left from the Bronze Age. After the tour you will eat a light lunch in the café by the museum and there will be some free time to wonder around the area before the bus leaves around 15:00 to take us back to Gothenburg.
