Our Mission As an assembly empowered by the glory of the Resurrection, we are committed to one another and to the tradition of the Catholic Church in celebrating the Seven Sacraments, the Sacred Liturgy, proclaiming the Good News through Education, sustaining the community of Faith, and promoting Charity, Peace and Justice for all people, now and forever. Stars fascinate us. We delight to gaze at the multitude of stars that dot the sky on a cloudless night. Christmas cards and postage stamps feature the famous Bethlehem star that magi saw rising. Yet, except for professional and amateur astronomers, most of us would not notice if one more heavenly body or star were added to the celestial expanse. In Matthew’s gospel story magi from Persia did observe a new star and they pursued it. So should we. An Epiphany Meditation by Fr. Austin Fleming O God, set my gaze on only that star whose light leads me on the path of your truth. Child of Mary's womb, apple of Joseph's eye, welcome me when I come to you, when I draw near to visit and to pray. Teach me to make of my heart the finest gift I have to offer to you and others. When I wonder if I've have found or lost you, deepen my faith in your faithful pursuit of me, of my life and my love. Shine like a star, Lord, and show me the beauty of your face: let me never fail to find you and see you in all I meet and know. O star of wonder, star of night star with royal beauty bright: guide me to your perfect Light. Contributed by Ruth Ann Pilney, T.O. Carm. —Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Thank you to all who helped make this Advent and Christmas at Saint Patrick so wonderful this year. It takes a team effort to prepare the parish for Christmas. The Gift Shop readies itself with seasonal treasures and the Ladies Society bake up a storm and also grace our altar with poinsettias. Faith Formation worked with the children in their program to produce the children’s Christmas Pageant and also brought Saint Nick to the Family Mass on Christmas Eve. The Hispanic Community celebrated Posada and Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Knights of Columbus members gathered for a Christmas dinner, hosting their wives and widows of Knights. Personally speaking, I wish to thank Jeanne Rheault and the many office volunteers...you know who you are...for making what can be a very stressing time of year glide by without a hitch. And last but not least, thank you Father Hernando and Father Walter for being here for the entire parish. Sandee Macedo LADIES SOCIETY NEWS The Ladies Society will be having a fundraiser called “A Winter Night’s Stew” on Saturday, January 24th.
