A guide to support services for young people aged 11 to 19 ADVICE TR OR T HELP NG SU NI PP AI signposts HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT MOST Produced by The Youth Strategy Local Action Group for Woking The production of this directory was made possible by a generous grant received from Surrey County Council’s Local Committee for Woking Hello and welcome to Signposts: a guide to organisations and services that have been set up to support YOU when you need it most. This booklet has been divided into nine different sections all with their own tab and colour coding to help you find them as easily as possible: The sections are as follows: Information & Advice, Education, Training & Employment, Housing & Benefits, Contraception & Sexual Health, Drugs & Alcohol, General Health, Get Active & Involved, Transport plus a kind of Any Other Business section with other bits of (hopefully) useful information. We have also left a few blank pages at the back so you can add you own notes if required. Where possible local services have been identified but where there are no local services available information has been listed that is situated as close to Woking as possible. We have done our best to ensure that the information is up to date but, understandably, telephone numbers and email addresses change, subsequently we can’t be held responsible for any errors that may inadvertently occur. So... who put this directory together? The Youth Strategy Local Action Group for Woking (a mouthful of a title we know) is a partnership of agencies and organisations that have a role in supporting young people in Woking. The Surrey Youth Strategy was launched back in 1998 and has five key objectives: 1 2 3 4 5 Give young people a voice Support young people in developing personal and social relationships Enable young people to learn for life Enable young people to lead healthy lifestyles Help young people to manage risk Many of us on the Local Action Group are aware that you, as young people, often have to visit several places to get all the information you need. This is one of the main reasons behind us compiling this directory, so all that information is in one place! We really hope it provides you with useful signposts and answers when you’re maybe not sure what to do or where to go when you need help. Hopefully, now you do! P.S. By the way, the directory can also be accessed online thanks to our good friends over at Woking Youth Council, www.woking.gov.uk/ Youth Strategy Local Action Group for Woking (Chair) wokingyouthcouncil November 2008 Dave Blake 2 4 Education, Training & Employment Volunteers Help with funding Local Secondary Schools Local Colleges & Sixth Forms Housing & Benefits Help & advice Places to stay 10 10 10 Contraception & Sexual Health Advice & support Practical help Drugs & Alchohol 15 General Health Local hospitals 6 7 8 9 9 Get Active & Involved Local County Council Youth Centres Organised groups Sports & activities Your views Transport 12 12 14 16 16 CONTENTS Information, Advice & Support Web based help 17 17 17 18 20 21 Other useful information Recreation Safety 22 22 23 INFORMATION, ADVICE & SUPPORT C.A.L.M. ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ Helpline for young people aged between 15 - 35.
