B USINESS C ONNECTION Volume 6 | Issue 1 January 2012 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE Chairman of the Board || Jeff Wright Notes from the Chairman of the Board Dr. Leonard Notto Being the Chairman of Board this year has been a very rewarding experience and has given me a renewed sense of respect and honor for people and leaders of our com‐ munity. It has been impressive the number of people that GIVE their precious time, talent and money to make Russell‐ ville a better place. These efforts not only help now but pave a brighter future for the next generation. The Chamber itself does more than most would think. From providing events to help local businesses network with each other, to assisting in business recruitment, to being an infor‐ mation hub in the heart of the city, the Chamber is the life blood that provides a pulse to the business sector in Russell‐ ville. I am excited about helping next year under the direction of Jeff Wright. He along with the great group of people on the Board will make our community thrive. Thanks to all that have made this year a success. WWW.RUSSELLVILLECHAMBER.ORG 2 www.russellvillechamber.org Chamber meeting invitation Annual Meeting “Celebration” Announced It’s time for the Russellville Area Chamber of Commerce to once again celebrate our extraordinary business com‐ munity. Join us as we recognize community leaders and applaud the accomplishments of our volunteers. Expect a few changes at this year’s event. We hope to provide you with an opportunity to mingle and build busi‐ ness relationships. Instead of a formal seated dinner, we will be serving heavy hors d’oeurves, wine and beer, in a more casual, friendly atmosphere. As in past years, we will be offering a variety of wonderful items donated by forty Chamber members in our Silent Auction. Our program will include the induction of the 2012 Chairman of the Board, Jeff Wright, and the 2012 Officers. We will be recognizing board members who have completed their term of office; Diane Edwards, About the River Val‐ ley Magazine, Chuck Gordon, Wells Fargo Advisors, Jim Kelley, The Courier, Chloe Lieblong, Lieblong Eye Clinic, and Jared Wood, Regions Bank. A special thank you goes to these individuals who have donated so much of their time. Presentations of the 2011 Citizen of the Year and the 2011 Red Coat of the Year will be made that evening. Outgoing Chairman of the Board, Dr. Leonard Notto will preside over the program. We would like to invite all Chamber members and their representatives to attend the Celebration, which will be held on Tuesday, January 31, beginning at 6 p.m. The event will take place at the Hughes Community Center lo‐ cated at 1000 Parkway Drive. Invitations will be mailed, and please note that reservations are required. Tickets are $25 per person and may be purchased at the Chamber office, 708 West Main Street. Celebration sponsors for 2012 are: 3 Red Coat of the quarter Todd Meimerstorf The honor of Red Coat of the Quarter has been awarded to Todd Meimerstorf. He is the Vice President of Commercial Lending at Arvest Bank. Todd has lived in Russellville/ Dover his entire life. He is married to Julie Meimerstorf. We are please to recognize Todd for his commitment to the Chamber and the River Valley Community! Q. Tell us your most memorable experience as a Red Coat? A. I couldn’t just name one, but I enjoy talking with the first time business owner eager to open shop and also the 30 year veteran celebrating an anniversary. Those experi‐ ences make the volunteering worth it. Q. What makes you want to be a Red Coat and what makes a good Red Coat? A. I enjoy getting to know the city through its business owners and professionals. Participation and volunteering of your time is what it’s all about in my opinion to be a good red coat. 4 Q. What do you think is the River Valley’s biggest asset? A. The biggest asset in the River Valley is hard to narrow, but if I could choose one it would be the physical surroundings of the River Valley. This area is amazing for outdoor activities, from Lake Darda‐ nelle, Mt. Nebo, to the Ozark National For‐ est. This area offers so much to not only the avid outdoorsman but to families and everyday people looking for activities. The Russellville area doesn’t lack for beautiful scenery. Q. In your judgment, what are two pressing problems facing the River Valley today? A. I would like to see the city adopt the same pattern as ATU has started and began to improve the “curb appeal” of some of the main streets in the town. Street beautification would help individuals/ businesses looking to locate here in their initial research. Business After Hours continues to be a great networking opportunity for Chamber members. These events allow members to exchange information, make business contacts, renew contacts, locate suppliers or customers, and announce changes, new products and services. The event is held on the second Thursday of each month from 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at different member businesses. In October it was hosted by Lee Ann’s Fine Jewelry. The Home Theater Store hosted the event in November. The next Business After Hours is sponsored by Russellville Country Club and River Valley United Way.
