FROM THE PRESIDENT Time for a Little Good News! If you have been paying attention to the news lately you are probably wondering if there is any good news out there. Between the ‘fiscal cliff’, the serious problems in the Middle East, and the lagging U.S. economy it feels like there is nothing positive going on in the world. However, let me tell you about some good things happening in the River Valley today and why we have many positive expectations for 2013. ConAgra Foods is currently involved in the largest industrial expansion project in the River Valley since Arkansas Nuclear One was constructed over 40 years ago. The company is investing over $100 million in their Russellville manufacturing operation and will be adding eighty new full-time positions when the project is completed. Stella-Jones Corporation continues to grow their manufacturing operations as well. The company manufactures railroad crossties at their Russellville plant. They have already expanded their operations and are developing plans to continue that growth in 2013. National Electronics Warranty Corporation (NEW) added numerous positions to their Russellville call center in 2012. PET Solutions, located near Centerville in Yell County, recently completed a $25 million plus expansion of their protein manufacturing facility and added several new jobs as a result. Innovation Industries will be expanding their facility in 2013. The company continues to be a world leader in the manufacturing of elevator components. Tyson Foods recently completed major equipment upgrades at their Dardanelle facility and they continue to increase production and employment. The River Valley’s newest corporate citizen, Precision Surveillance Corporation (PSC), has started renovations and expansion of their new manufacturing operation. Upon completion in 2013, several jobs related to the nuclear power industry, will be created. Wayne Poultry recently acquired the former ConAgra Foods feed mill in Atkins and plans to renovate and upgrade the facility to accommodate their new feed mill operation. JW Aluminum has plans to implement some equipment upgrades for their Russellville manufacturing operation in 2013. The company is a leading manufacturer of aluminum products. Cowell Steel, a local manufacturer of metal buildings and components, has already begun the expansion and relocation of their operations from Russellville to Pottsville. These are just a few examples of the exciting growth of our local industries. Your Chamber of Commerce and the Arkansas Valley Alliance for Economic Development continue to work closely with area industries to ensure continued growth and prosperity for the River Valley. RUSSELLVILLE AREA CHAMBER | PG. 2 CHAMBER NEWS Chamber Annual Meeting Announced It’s time for the Russellville Area Chamber of Commerce to once again celebrate our extraordinary business community. RUSSELLVILLE AREA CHAMBER | PG. 4 RED COAT OF THE QUARTER Joe Wolfe The honor of Red Coat of the Quarter has been awarded to Joe Wolfe. He is the Transportation Manager at Cargill Pork. Joe has lived in Russellville for seven (7) years. We are pleased to recognize Joe for his commitment to the Chamber and the River Valley Community! Q. Tell us your most memorable experience as a Red Coat? A. I enjoy getting to know folks in the River Valley and being a Red Coat has certainly opened the door to more opportunities in developing new relationships. Recently I met Mr. Ray Baker for the first time and before either of us knew it, we had visited over 1 1/2 hrs. I have truly enjoyed the visits I have had. Q. What do you think is the River Valley’s biggest asset? A. The biggest asset of Russellville in my opinion is that it is a big town with a small town feel. A close second is the beauty of the area. Whether it is driving across the lake, traveling up Hwy 7 in the fall, or catching the sunset/sunrise views on Mt. Nebo, there are many displays of God’s handiwork to take in. Q. What makes you want to be a Red Coat and what makes a good Red Coat? A. My goal is to stay as involved as I can in my local community. The Red Coat committee is an opportu‐ nity for me to contribute to the community and to help in making a difference. In my opinion, a good Red Coat is one who speaks positively of the community and strives to serve the needs of the members it represents. Q. In your judgment, what are two pressing problems facing the River Valley today? A. As I interact with residents, we have an opportu‐ nity to keep revenue in the area by offering a large local mall. From what I have noticed, this would not only generate additional business, but it would also keep shopping local for our existing businesses as well. Another opportunity in my opinion is the “freshening up” of the downtown district. It would be neat to see a face lift downtown with entertainment and an increase in local business. RUSSELLVILLE AREA CHAMBER | PG. 5 MAKING CONNECTIONS Committees Provide Opportunities for Involvement One of the best ways to grow your business and get the most out of your Chamber membership is by getting involved in a Chamber committee. Our ten active committees are the life-blood of the organization and promote business and economic growth in our area. Each committee works to develop and execute our programs that are critical in helping the Chamber achieve our objectives. Committee participation is also a good way for new members to learn how the Chamber works and to form productive relationships with other Chamber members. All Chamber members and their representatives are invited to join a committee. For additional information and a complete list of chamber committees, call the Chamber office (479-968-2530) or check on the chamber website at RussellvilleChamber.org. Benefits of Chamber Sponsorship Each year the Russellville Area Chamber produces a schedule of events to serve our members' diverse interests. Known most for the opportunity to build business connections, the Chamber activities and events are also perfect for those looking for heightened visibility. Aligning your business with the Chamber events through sponsorship puts your company directly in front of business professionals and civic leaders. With a multitude of events produced each year, our sponsorship opportunities range in scope and price, and have the ability to meet important marketing objectives for companies both large and small, with varying budgets and business objectives. As a Chamber event sponsor, your company automatically gains the publicity and brand recognition it needs to compete in today’s competitive environment. Your recognition as a Chamber sponsor within the business community will insure you make those important connections necessary for the future growth and success of your business.
