President’s Message
Hi Oldsmobile Club members:
Sad to say we lost member Frank Schwab in March. He was battling cancer for more than a
year. He was up in Orland so we didn’t see much of him and his cars. I visited him on my way
down from the OCA Nationals in 2005. He was a good guy and will be missed. See back cover
for his obituary.
The Zone show was a success by all measures. Jon Manji did an outstanding job as show chair
and So-Cal kept the ball rolling with their part. Mike Izzo wrote a summary of the show for
their newsletter and I was able to put most of it here on page 13.
Member Lyle Burgess had his shop, Rare Parts, make a half dozen metal cutouts of our logo
and donated them to our club. We were able to thank him at the banquet and gave one to Jon
Manji for his outstanding recent efforts. We also recognized Dave and Pat Kennedy for their
consistent years of support to our club with an award. Thanks again!
We have new OCA Pacific Southwest Zone Directors
elected and both from our chapter. Jon Manji and now
Dan Haggerty. Congratulations to both. Jerry Wilson was
reelected OCA President. I look forward to a progressive
and cooperative OCA in the coming years.
Our next general meeting will be in Manteca at a restaurant then off to a tour of the Manteca History Museum
by none other than our own Alan and Jeanie Marsden as
guides. Should be fun!
President, Larry Ewing
Editor’s Note
I have put a application for the Portal Park Show and I encourage all to go. The cut off is June
28 so not much time to respond. See page 6 for details.
We also have the flyer insert for Micke Grove Annual Show and the show has a new format
with more time to socialize and less car prep work. Read it over and be there!
Also in this issue is the Nor Cal Technical Library list of which we have added a few new
books. see pages 13-14.

This is a great show and we have been going for the past 4 years. It’s held in Portal
Park Cupertino and is only opened to cars once a year. It’s a beautiful grass setting.
The park is north of Wolf Rd off Stevens Creek Blvd. It usually starts about 10AM.
The Cadillac Club invites many car clubs and parks us together as space permits.
They have a wonderful BBQ but you can bring your own picnic if preferred.
Get your registration in soon as June 28 is deadline. Copy this form and send it in!
Hope to see you there.

Below is a excerpt from the So Cal Club newsletter that Mike Izzo wrote about
our joint venture Zone Show
In no time at all we were pulling our Oldsmobiles into the spacious parking lot at
the Seacrest Hotel in Pismo Beach. Better than valet parking in Beverly Hills, Jon
Manji and Larry Ewing were already working the show field greeting early arrivals
and directing drivers to their day-of- show parking spots. Their preemptive efforts
completely eliminated the usual Keystone Kops, Saturday morning, rearrange-the-lot,
fire drill. Thanks guys for all your thoughtful planning and hours of
dedicated service.
It was now time to check-in to the Seacrest and check-out the facility. What a beautiful location. Perched on a bluff, overlooking the Pacific, our So Cal members picked
a winning hotel to host The 30th Annual Pacific Southwest Zone Show. Each member that I spoke with found well-appointed rooms, comfortable bedding and clean
surroundings. Beachside rooms overlook beautiful gardens, the pool and hot tub area
and an endless pristine beach. Hats off to the Hotel Selection Committee for picking
the Seacrest. Also, a big thank you to Grant and Karon Warner for organizing and
hosting a relaxing Friday Night Welcome Party complete with pizza and drinks for
everyone.
Walking the show field on Saturday was a trip back in time. From Joe’s 1940 to Stu
and Patricia Overholtzer’s modern Cutlass Convertible, almost every era of modern
Oldsmobile history was represented by a quality example. I would be hard pressed to
locate anything lower than a 900 point car. What a nice cross section of Oldsmobile’s
finest years. Car owners that I spoke with were enthusiastic, friendly, conversant and
willing to share restoration tips, parts sources and techniques. Above and beyond the
great cars, the extensive literature displays and the club spirit items, is the chance this
show gives members to renew old friendships. We were able to connect with several
Nor-Cal members who we haven’t seen in years.
The awards banquet was conveniently held just across the parking lot at Marie Callender’s. Refreshments flowed during a festive Happy Hour as members filled the
room with laughter, conversations and car show stories. High marks to the Nor-Cal
folks for cooking up the “donation in lieu of an award” program. Every trophy “not
purchased” equates to a sizable donation to the REO Museum in Lansing. Great
idea!
The 30th Annual Pacific Southwest Zone Show is now in the books as a complete
success. If you missed the show this year, mark your 2015 calendar and enjoy a Central Coast weekend with your Olds Club friends.
Mike Izzo,
So-Cal Oldsmobile Club

Out and About with Oldsmobiles
These cars were spotted at Goodguys June Summer Gathering in Pleasanton. The
black ‘50 88 convertible at right was not for sale and belonged to Gary Cedoline of
Pleasanton. Everything else was for sale!
I didn’t call any of these folks as I
sometimes do to see if they are still
for sale but if interested call the numbers.

This brass honeycomb radiator was

would make a great wall hanging or if

interested I have his number. 925-9181393, ask for Rick Muto
