An open house and ribbon cutting ceremony introduced the funeral home's new name: Davison-Fulton-Woolsey Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Aaron Heffernan, George Fulton, and Terry Pruvost were joined in the ribbon cutting by Mayor Laurie Barra and representatives from the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce. Woolsey Funeral Homes has provided funeral and cremation services for Pekin, Glasford, and the surrounding area since 1880. They can be reached at 346-2115 or http://www.woolseyfuneralhm.com/ Vonderheide Ribbon Cutting Vonderheide Floor Covering celebrated the grand opening of their newly remodeled showroom at 105 N. 14th. A Pekin fixture since 1947, Vonderheide now has their showroom and outlet center all under one roof. Their Derby Street location will now be used as warehouse space. Dale Vonderheide cut the ribbon, surrounded by family, employees, and representatives of the City of Pekin and the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce. Classical Dance Academy Grand Opening The Classical Dance Academy held a grand opening on June 10th to celebrate their new location at 359 Court Street. Helping owner Liz Curtin celebrate with a ribbon cutting were representatives from the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Pekin. Family and students also joined in for the ribbon cutting picture. The Classical Dance Academy offers Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Ballroom, Pilates, and a Dance Studio. The appointment was effective at the board's May 11th meeting, and the term runs through the annual meeting held in April of 2013. Green, along with his wife, Anna, own Riviera Tan, located at 2133 Court Street. He is originally from Mesa, Arizona and spent his teenage years in Ohio before joining the US Navy. After the Navy he lived in California and Arizona before moving to Pekin in 2005. He is actively involved with the Indoor Tanning Association. Yancy and Anna met in Arizona and have been married for 8 years. They have three children - Breyana, 15, Noah, 7, and Abigail, 5 Brittney Beal, Office Assistant 4 Recent Chamber Events Business After Hours Held Puttin' On Pekin Recap John M. Evans Supportive Living Community hosted the June Business After Hours. Located on "retirement row" on South 14th Street, John M. Evans Supportive Living Community provides a wonderful alternative to a nursing home or to struggling alone at home for older adults of all incomes who may need some help to maintain their independence, especially those who cannot afford private pay assisted living. Chamber members were treated to great food and drink and tours of the facility. They saw Steve Tuttle from Uftring Chrysler Dodge Jeep win the early prize and the folks from Sprint / Wireless Express win the late prize. Committee member Erin Schutte from the Holiday Inn Express presented the Spotlight on Business Award to Liberty Village of Pekin. Rose Marie Hasler presented the Blue Ribbon Award to Suzanne Cook from the Pekin Park District in recognition of the beautiful flowers and plantings throughout the community. Jamie DiDonato presented Dennis Green with the Sunshine Award for the Pekin Mobile Diner. The featured speaker was Ed Ensminger, Director of Purchasing for the Big R Store. He spoke about the new Pekin store that will open in July. Congressman Schock's Fly-In Bill Fleming, Executive Director of the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce, attended the recent Washington, DC Fly-In hosted by Congressman Aaron Schock. Kriegsman Field Rededication A ribbon cutting was held as part of the rededication of Kriegsman Field at the Pekin Municipal Airport. The event was part of the airport's Wings & Wheels fly-in and car cruise-in. Representatives from the Kriegsman family, the Pekin Municipal Airport Commission, City Councilman John Abel and Mayor Laurie Barra participated in the ceremony. Owner Kriss Brown was joined by his employees in the ribbon cutting. Located at 1315 Derby Street, 14th Street Hardware is a full service hardware store with glass cutting, pipe cut and threading, key cutting, paint mixing, plumbing, electrical, hardware, lawn and garden, tools, cleaning aids, paint and accessories. Look for more pictures from this event at: http://picasaweb.google.com/PekinChamber 6 Transportation Bus Tour The Chamber's Transportation Committee took representatives from the City of Pekin, Tazewell County, and State and Federal Legislative offices on a bus tour past several Pekin area transportation projects. The committee made presentations on Veterans Drive, Griffin Avenue, the Pekin Municipal Airport, Wagonseller Road, Hanna Drive and Broadway Road. The discussions continued over lunch at Pekin Country Club. At the end of the year, assets were over $4.4 billion, which is an increase of over 5% compared to 2009. Savings deposits also increased over 5% from last year, and loans outstanding grew 1%.
