Strikeforce Heavyweight
Champion Alistair
Overeem made the
unbelievable, by capturing
the K-1 World GrandPrix Title, beating Tyrone
Spong, Gokhan Saki and
Peter Aerts in the final.
Overeem captured the
most prestigious title in
the world of kickboxing
in only his second year of
the competition. That was
just the icing on the cake
as Overeem also currently
holds the Dream
Heavyweight belt and
more importantly
the Strikeforce
Heavyweight belt –
2010 was certainly
a busy time for the
Dutchman as he
dominated in both MMA
and kickboxing.

Some of the most popular fight requests we have
received on the International Kickboxer forum:
Legendary New Zealander
kickboxer Ray Sefo is still
fighting strong even though the
heavyweight has just turned 40. He
recently took on Dutch powerhouse
Tyrone Spong at the K-1 World
Grand Prix 2010 in Seoul Final 16 on
just ten days notice. Ray put up a
decent fight for a short preparation
but was beaten by decision. Sefo
has always proven to be one of the
sports most entertaining fighters
and continues to put on a great
show even in his later years. It
still looks like there is no slowing
down for Sefo as he just took on
Alistair Overeem’s brother on MMA
promotion Strikeforce.
at 42
Ballarat kickboxer Kay Hodgson has
chalked up her first win, flooring
her Thai opponent in the opening
round of their Muay Thai bout in
Patong recently.
The 42-year old outboxed her
younger, taller rival, knocking her
out with a body blow after scoring a
number of hits in a frantic first round.
Hodgson had travelled to Thailand
specifically to train with the Sinbi
Muay Thai stable under the eye of
masters from the sport’s birthplace,
including the world’s best Muay Thai
fighter, Saenchai.
The maiden victory was something
of a bonus, Hodgson said.
“I’m pretty happy after all the
training I’ve done. It paid off,”
Hodgson said.

Sport asia
promotes
mT schools
Action Sport Asia has recently
launched the website of it’s Pattaya
Muay Thai partner, Pattaya Kombat,
focusing on the weight loss programs
on offer at a Muay Thai school in
Pattaya. This is a growing market as
people seek interesting and exciting
forms of weight loss which differ
from the standard forms of exercise
of running or gyms.
Muay Thai is traditionally viewed
as a man’s sport but Pattaya Kombat
have been offering training schedules
for women too, which are proving to
be a big success. Children are also
frequent visitors to this Muay Thai
school and so the sport caters to a
diverse audience. Since Action Sport
Asia began promoting Muay Thai
schools in Thailand there has been
a lot of interest from visitors all over
the world and by working with one
of the most well established Muay
Thai schools in Thailand, the aim is
to expand and grow the popularity of
Muay Thai for all people.
Saenchai VS Liam harriSon
The Science of 8 Limbs reports that Muay Thai
fighters Saenchai and Liam Harrison will be
meeting for the second time on 9 April, on a
fight card put on by UK Muay Thai promotion
Fight Sport Industries. The bout is pretty
significant in itself and has the potential to turn
into one of those fights that you find online and
just enjoy.
Saenchai has been training out of Sinbi Muay
Thai in Phuket for a couple of months now and
Liam Harrison is known chiefly for pair split with
Numphon PK Stereo (ultimately winning the
World Muay Thai Council 135lb. title in 2008)
and another split with Anuwat Keawsamiri, and
his first bout with Saenchai back in 2009.
The Dreaded
Draw
We’ve all seen a war in the ring that
has come up a draw and fans and
fighters have walked away bitterly
disappointed.
We put it to the fans on the
International Kickboxer forum what
should be done, if anything, to solve
this problem.
The resounding decision was that
75% of you voted that you wanted
a decision on the night, so there
should be an extra round to decide
the winner.
Among the other results, 13.9% of
you said they should just come back
next time.
Semmy
goes down
Dutch K-1 dominator Semmy Schilt
was defeated in a tournament
for the very first time in history
at the K-1 World Grand Prix 2010
Final when he was bettered by
Peter Aerts in a gruelling decision,
making it his third loss to Aerts,
who seems to be the only man
that can consistently defeat the
powerhouse from Holland.
