The ARC (NI) Annual Conference provides one of the few opportunities in Northern Ireland for people from all sectors and settings to come together to explore and address issues of concern in supporting people with a learning disability and their families. This year’s conference will be held on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th October 2011 and we will seek to support staff in coping with the uncertainty, which is the context for much of our day-to-day work. The conference aims are: 1. To celebrate the ingredients for ensuring that people live better lives in their communities. 2. To learn about effective and creative approaches to developing the workforce of the future. 3. To explore how we deal with real risks in a way that enables people to have real lives. 4. To showcase innovative solutions from the creative use of technology. What would happen if we never took any risks and what happens when we take too many? ‘We Are Still Rolling The Dice’ – Achieving Outcomes Through Active Support Nicola McCann, Positive Futures Nicola will report on the journey so far from two of Positive Futures’ Supported Living Services where people with more complex and behavioural support needs are experiencing real opportunities to be fully involved in their lives. This workshop will be delivered by the Be Safe Stay Safe project, which aims to help people with disabilities to feel safer in their communities. Web Support to Enhance Safeguarding Practice Bernie Gibbins, Triangle Housing Association This workshop will outline the development of the new website that is aimed at supporting and enhancing safeguarding practice. It will explain how this links with the aims of safeguarding identified by the Regional Policy, the Voluntary Sector safeguarding drive, and the new Local Area Safeguarding Partnership, and the requirements of RQIA and Supporting People in relation to safeguarding.
