You will be rerouted to our online catalogue on the revtrak website, where you will need to create an account in order to register for classes. If you register online you can ONLY pay by credit card. If you wish to pay in cash/check or money order please mail in your registration. Course Listings: Courses are listed with registration fees, building and room locations, and beginning times and dates. Text costs and material fees are given at the conclusion of the course description. Assume that your registration is accepted and plan to come to the first scheduled class without expecting a telephone call. You will be called if the class is postponed or canceled. Therefore, be sure to list your telephone number(s) on your registration form. Page 2 Registration Period: In consideration of the instructors and all involved in setting up Community Education Courses, we highly recommend that you register for the courses you are interested in as quickly as possible, and no later than one week prior to the start of the class. If the minimum enrollment is NOT met by this time, classes will be canceled. Course Fees, Texts & Materials: Registration fees do not include texts or materials. Students pay fees for such items directly to teachers the first night of class, or as stated. Summer 2016 Community Education Program Proof of Attendance: A letter documenting attendance will be given out upon request. Please call the Community Education Office to request a proof of attendance document at 339-1470. Who May Register: Registration is open to district residents and non-residents. Adult courses are open to persons 18 years of age or older, unless otherwise specified in the course description. Fees: Fees are payable with registration. There is a $30 charge for returned checks. Class size: Each class must have a minimum number of students registered in order to be held. That minimum number varies from class to class depending on variables such as location and instructor salaries. East Irondequoit Senior Citizens: Some classes occasionally may be offered at a reduced rate for senior citizens (62 years of age or older.) Refund Policy: Registration in a course represents a personal commitment. Therefore, total refunds will be provided only if a class is canceled, you have a doctor’s note, or at the director’s discretion in non-medical related instances. Refunds may take up to four weeks to process. Questions? 339-1470 Adult Morning Lap Swim Start your day with a refreshing, and healthy swim. Enjoy lap swimming or water walking for physical conditioning. Pre-registration is required. Visit passes can be purchased in different increments. Visit passes do NOT expire. No passes will be available for purchase at morning swim. All youth under age 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult. If your child cannot swim unassisted, they must be accompanied by an adult in the water. We will provide flotation devices, no personal flotation devices are allowed in the pool. Preregistration preferred, however registration at the door is also accepted for family swim only. Family swim is open: Wednesdays, 6:30-8pm July 13, 20, 27, August 3, 10, 17 Fee: $5 per visit, per family. Aquatics Aquatics Page 3 Registration forms pages 5 & 17 Visit our website at www.eastiron.org/news/adulted.htm Aquatics- Learn to Swim Aquatics Learn to Swim Program The levels listed below are based on the American Red Cross guidelines for swim lessons. Each level is described as accurately as possible but some adjustments may be necessary in order to place your child in the proper level. Any physical limitations should be noted on the child’s registration form. When choosing the level of instruction for your child underestimate your child’s abilities. Instructors will verify the ability of each child during the first class. Pre-registration is required. You are encouraged to stay in the pool area the first and last class to observe. For the remainder of the lessons, parent/guardians and siblings will not be permitted in the pool area. Parent & Child This class is designed to familiarize young children to the water and prepare them to learn to swim. It is not designed to teach children to become good swimmers or to survive in the water on their own. It is a great way to spend time with your child. An adult must be in the water with the child. Children in diapers must wear appropriate swim pants. Submerge face, blow bubbles, front and back glides and floats. This will include how to shade, proportions, the human face, drawing the human body and perspective. Pastel paintings can look as loose as a drawing or as finished as an oil painting. No other medium is as expressive or as forgiving. Through informational discussions, demonstrations and plenty of opportunity for the student to experiment, we will learn about the incredible versatility of pastel. Areas to be covered include pastel painting techniques, design concepts, tricks of the trade, safety, storage and framing. No prior experience is necessary and all skill levels are welcome. Come and play! Some prior experience with pastel is required. Some of the topics to be covered include further development of application techniques, underpaintings, framing and creating your own surface to paint on and experimentation with color. If you have ever wanted to try painting outdoors, but were nervous about what to expect, learn all about it from an experienced plein air painter! Day one of the two day class will be devoted to discussing gear, how to prepare for and what to expect while painting outside in the public eye. On day two, we will head out to a specific location, set up outside and work on a painting. All skill-levels and mediums are welcome. Topics include: information on drug and alcohol abuse, defensive driving techniques, and appropriate driving behavior. Attendance for five hours is required in order to obtain the Certificate of Completion necessary for your road test. YOU MUST POSSESS A VALID LEARNING PERMIT AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION. When you register, please include a copy of your permit and fee of $42 with the registration. Bring your permit to class. There are so many plans and so many changes year to year. If you are approaching age 65, or already there...your mailbox may already be stuffed full of letters and advertisements from Medicare and everyone else who wants you to but their plan. So what do you do? Should you purchase a HMO or a PPO plan? What about a Medicare Supplement plan? Maybe you are wondering what the “donut hole” is and why you should try to stay out of it. Or maybe you want to work past age 65...how will that affect me? Or maybe your questions are more basic...like “When do I sign up?” or “Where do I sign up?” Don’t worry! This is a realworld, interactive class with real-life illustrations. In this two hour seminar you will learn about the various types of plans, processes, penalties and premiums associated with Medicare for this year. You’ll leave with a good basic understanding of Medicare and what the plans cover. There will be plenty of time for Questions and Answers at the end of class. Market yourself with skills that are necessary to add to your resume. Have a small business and need some training? You will learn “hands on” in our small group sessions limited to 5 students for 2 hours – the basics of recording data, viewing reports and understanding them, reconciling to bank statements and more. Page 14 Summer 2016 Community Education Program Questions? 339-1470 400 Hydrangeas and a New Method for Getting Blooms in our Area Tim Boebel, nursery manager at Wayside Garden Center and author of Hydrangeas in the North: Getting Blooms in the Colder Climates, is a local expert on everyone’s favorite flowering shrub. Join Tim at his 1890’s farmhouse in East Bloomfield to see hundreds of blooming hydrangea cultivars growing on his one-acre plot. Species include H. arborescens, macrophylla, paniculata, quercifolia, serrata, involucrata and anomala. Through much experimentation Tim has worked out how to get consistent bloom from hydrangeas in our less-than-ideal environment, and is looking at his wide selection of cultivars to determine which are best for our area. For a few years now Tim has been experimenting with improvements to his method and will share with us a new, much simpler and more effective way to maintain macrophyllas for more reliable bloom. He’ll discuss the merits of the different hydrangea cultivars, cover any questions you have about methods for growing each of the hardy species, and talk about growing hydrangea in patio containers.
