Wood, fire
and the family
For sheer pleasure, the beauty of real flames, the smell of
wood burning, the sense of creation and control of one of
natures natural forces cannot be equalled. The Harmony
range now boasts revolutionary combustion technologies
which enable stoves to achieve the highest levels of
efficiency and controllability, whether commanding warmth
to the furthest reaches of the largest home or discreetly
providing gentle background heating for the most modest
of spaces. Traditional classic lines gracefully outline these
magnificent stoves which subtly hide the technical advances
hidden within. The Harmony range brings an assured
opulence to any fireplace. When burning, with either wood
or coal, the stove provides a superb view of the fire, making
it an irresistible attraction to visitors and constant comfort to
members of the household. With global warming and the
world’s resources towards the top of peoples thoughts, the
efficient use of all fuels is becoming paramount. Whilst
wood has always been regarded as a fuel, it is being
brought to the forefront of ecological importance.

Stunning in a
town house
When harvested from properly managed and sustained
forests, wood can be regarded as the most natural way to
collect and store solar energy. Combustion is simply the
fastest of the many natural processes which assist the
oxidization and decomposition of the fuel, returning
the elements to the state they were before its formation as
part of nature’s life cycle. Because it is poor and incomplete
combustion which causes this cycle to become unbalanced,
our stove designers are constantly researching to develop
combustion techniques which are proven in their
laboratories to be the best available. The Harmony stoves
incorporate the most advanced combustion systems ever
developed; stoves which let you watch one of nature’s most
fascinating phenomenons through the large glass windowed
door; stoves bringing you as close to nature as technology
allows. Cast iron is synonymous with the Industrial
Revolution. The Chinese were casting iron in the sixth
century B.C. and earlier castings dating from the fifth
century still survive.

Magnificent
in the country
The material’s ability to tolerate high temperatures
without distorting, had already been known for over two
thousand years. When the Europeans began casting iron in
the mid-fifteenth century they made use of this well
understood property by choosing to produce fire backs,
ovens and stove tops.
Whilst today cast iron is used to manufacture crankshafts,
building supports, brake discs and saucepan’s, it remains a
material unsurpassed for stove building. Cast iron’s ability to
remain stable in extremes of heat allow variations to the
thickness of material to provide the optimum heat storage
capacity for the stove to balance any differing heat outputs
caused by reduced fire sizes when refuelling.
Our range of multifuel stoves represent a giant leap forward
in combustion technology. With the minimum of supervision
they burn more efficiently making them as environmentally
friendly as possible. This is the result of working to achieve
the most attractive and natural flame patterns possible,
from the most natural of fuels available.

Ideal for the
largest of homes
The plexus air control brings together all the elements
needed to give total control of the air supply to the stove.
This system governs the volume, proportion and direction of
combustion air, for normal operation or rapid ignition. This
principle creates perfect conditions for either wood or coal
burning. The air supply rate can be manually, remotely or
automatically operated. The air for wood burning is preheated from the moment it leaves the plexus air control by
being passed through a full width pre-heated chamber at
the back and top of the stove. Heating the air in this way
helps maintain the temperature of the stove’s combustion
chamber to ensure the products released from the wood do
not fall below their ignition temperature. This is further
helped by having the door of the stove double glazed. The
stove has the newly developed ZR air delivery system which
introduces the air for wood combustion not simply as an air
stream travelling down the glass of the door but as a gentle
flow throughout the entire combustion chamber. The slower
air delivery gives a more visually satisfying fire which will
be evident through the cleaner glass.

You can fit a multifuel stove into your home
A stove can be fitted in any number of situations and locations.
The requirements to provide a flue is seldom a problem either
into an existing chimney or a new construction. There are a
number of options available, one of which, or a combination of
several, will best suit the site conditions and the style preferred.
Modern installations are energy efficient and can even be
designed to redirect convected warm air back into the room.

Performance
and power
Nestor Martin have been casting stoves in its foundry for
over seventy years, it is a foundry dedicated exclusively to
the manufacture of castings for stoves.
Cast iron’s high thermal conductivity and ability to withstand
extreme high temperatures without distress has been
understood for hundreds of years and it remains the finest
available material with which to manufacture heating
equipment; it provides the perfect foundation upon which
to develop high efficiency stoves. The research laboratories
not only painstakingly develop stove bodies to achieve high
efficiency, having over fifty years experience in designing
gas burners, they design and develop burners that
complement the thermal characteristics of each new stove.
Whilst all development is laboratory proven, the final results
are tested in Nestor Martin’s CE approved test laboratories,
where the technicians demand that their own products
achieve higher standards than other manufacturers. Because
the development team are responsible for each stove’s
design and manufacture, from the drawing board to the
despatch department, they are justly proud of
their products.

Classic line and
proportions
Every stove carries with it technical expertise and an
integrity that is unrivalled. With laboratory technicians
seeming to spend much of their day mesmerised by
instrument reading and foundry workers who, despite
computerization, toil in the punishing heat of the
foundry, it would be understandable to assume technology
overrides all other considerations. However, for the staff at
Nestor Martin technology is simply the means to an end;
Nestor Martin never forget that their stove will become a
major feature of your home. They know that efficiency and
longevity are only a part of the stove’s design and
manufacture, its appearance and finish needs to please you
for many years. Harmony stoves are not a whim of fashion,
they have classical lines and proportions which are timeless.
Sit down in front of a Harmony gas stove when it is burning
and you will not see a clinical blue gas flame, you will see
the results of people who strive to make efficiency and
technology something to warm your spirit on a cold
winters night.

Outstanding
versatility
Whilst may of us are traditionalists at heart, the demands of
modern living often mean a solid fuel stove and its
management are impractical. The Harmony gas stoves offer
a comprehensive range of installation options. With the
conventional flue models being supplied with
fittings to allow either top or rear flue configuration, and
the balanced flue models having flue design of outstanding
versatility, almost every possible installation challenge can
be accommodated.
The optional cast iron plinths, which are available in finishes
to match the stove will give any installation an immediate
look of completion. All Harmony stoves illustrated in this
brochure have a self contained spark generator for ignition
and control valves that can be adjusted manually, to give a
constant heat output, or set to give a heat output
thermostatically matched to the required room temperature.
(Remote control will be required). This makes it possible to
turn on the stove and allow it to heat up the room quickly
without the risk of forgetting to turn down the stove when
the desired temperature is reached.

the room. To burn efficiently this often requires an air supply drawn
from an external source. Normally an air brick or similar provision is
made available.

Gas balanced flues
The natural balance
A balanced flue stove is
supplied with the required air
via the flue pipe itself by
means of a double skinned
construction and is therefore
independent of room
atmospheric conditions.
Through wall sleeves with
closure flange.
Ceiling supports are
available to enable secure
fixing of flue sections
which pass through
ceiling/floor.
Balanced flue options
A balanced flue may be terminated either vertically or
horizontally. To enable this, a basic flue kit is available to which as
many additional parts may be added as necessary to achieve an exit
conforming to statutory building regulations.
A range of accessories including additional lengths and elbows
are added to enable build configurations over a range of distances
and directions.
Our standard balanced flue starter kits are highlighted in dark
grey. Light shades are optional.

Of the many varied burner designs which exist, the vaporising burner developed by

Nestor Martin, the heart of their oil fired stoves, has earned a legendary reputation for
reliability and ease of maintenance. Because the burners have no moving parts and
have the ability to continue heating even when the electrical supply fails, the promise of
dependability made by these magnificent stoves is always fulfilled.

maintenance
The classically styled Harmony range of oil stoves represent
the most traditionally proportioned and detailed examples
of cast iron stove designs; designed with the confidence to
look right against a backdrop of almost any room setting or
fireplace, regardless of period. The appearance of
dependability these stoves exude is made a reality by their
use of an oil vaporising pot burner to generate heat. These
burners operate without fans, pumps or even wicks,
allowing continual operation with no reliance on an
electrical supply and the absolute minimum of maintenance
requirements. Three burner sizes are used in the Harmony
stoves to give the heat outputs that will best meet with
your heating requirements. The stoves are not only a major
feature in any room they are an attractive and
versatile source of comforting heat. Whilst we hope this
brochure illustrates the stunning good looks of the Harmony
stoves and that the technical details are informative, we do
urge you to visit your local stove retailer to fully appreciate
the presence and superior build and quality that these
exceptional stoves have.

Oil
The chosen
one - cast iron
Your stove retailer will be able to demonstrate our stoves
and give you the benefit of their experience to help you
choose the stove most suitable for your requirements. The
Harmony stoves are made at the Nestor Martin foundry that
has been designing and casting stoves since 1923. Cast iron
is the chosen material from which to produce stoves
because of its unique thermal properties and strength, but it
is not an easy material to work with. It needs an enormous
commitment, not only for the production facilities it
requires, but for the stove designers it imposes the
discipline of having to prove each design and each proposed
casting before any production moulds are produced. The
Harmony oil stoves are the result of Nestor Martin’s wealth
of experience combined with the most modern
computerized design laboratories and production facilities to
produce stoves of proven reliability and together with an
efficiency as high as modern technology can achieve.

Oil
Proven
reliability
Oil as a choice of fuel has many advantages and few
disadvantages. The intensity with which news coverage is
given to oil price changes would seem to indicate it
becoming the most expensive fuel at any minute, but the
reality is that oil remains the least expensive source of
energy for rural home heating. The ability to purchase a
year’s supply of fuel in the summer when oil is at its lowest
price, gives a security and cost saving to many rural homes
that would otherwise have to rely on laboriously handled
wood or coal.
All fuel burning appliances need maintenance and for some
oil appliances this maintenance can be expensive and
should be allowed for when calculating running costs. The
Harmony stoves have few parts needing servicing or
essential maintenance beyond an inspection and a simple
clean with a vacuum cleaner and duster.

The moisture content of wood for burning should be as low as possible, but
certainly below 25%. This is particularly important if you are burning wood in a
smoke exempt area in an approved appliance. In this case the wood should be
20% or less. Wood with a moisture content above this will not burn cleanly or
efficiently. Burning dry wood will cost you less money, whereas wet wood reduces
the heat available from the wood by up to 80%.
Burning dry wood reduces the maintenance of the stove and substantially
increases the longevity of the flue system.
