Food Pantry Donations Needed
December 5th
Holiday Party
Our food pantry is completely out of all food items except for the
frozen meals. One way we have come up with to replenish it is
that for every 5 canned goods (unexpired and undented, please)
donated to the food pantry, you will receive one sheet of auction
tickets for use at the Holiday Party on December 5th. If you wish
to participate, please turn in your canned goods to the front
office at the main agency. We will accept the donations, give
out the tickets, and forward the goods to the food pantry for you.
Also remember that the giving doesn’t have to stop on December
5th. Our food pantry is always in need of
food donations. This holiday season and
throughout the year we hope that you
continue your generosity and keep
donating food to our pantry. Every bit
helps.

Get Your Taxes Filed for FREE
The VITA/OBB free tax preparation program will be
offered again this year. All CAC employees qualify for
this program. The program provides free income tax
return preparation and e-filing by IRS trained and
certified volunteers. Employees should complete and
sign a Form 13614-C and a Virtual VITA/TCE Taxpayer
Consent form and forward those forms along with all
income documents and Social Security numbers for all
dependents via interoffice mail to Stacie Peters or
Shanna Mustard, Associate Legal Counsel, at the main
agency. Forms will be available starting in January at all
sites. Employees will be contacted via telephone to
review your return before e-filing. Please contact Shanna
at smustard@pikecac.org with questions.

Times and dates are subject to change.
Reminder
All employees enrolled in the Max/Plus insurance plan have until the end of the year to submit
claims for processing. After this time the claims cannot be processed, so you will not receive the
80% payment and will owe 100% of any bills outstanding.
This also applies to the FSA plan. If you have money left in your flexible spending account, you must
submit the prior year claims before the end of 2014.

The CAC Early Childhood Program has openings at the Eastern, Western, and Piketon sites
for children 3-5 years of age. Our program serves pregnant women as well as children from
infancy to kindergarten age in our home based option. Child care is also available for
children 6 weeks to 5 years old. If you have questions or would like an application, please

CAC Holiday Party
It is that time of year, time to start getting ready for the Holiday
Gathering. In this newsletter there will be a “Go Team” Pennant item
hidden in the newsletter. The first 30 people that e-mail Lori Watson with
the exact location of the “Go Team” item will receive 1 sheet of tickets
to be used at the Holiday Gathering on December 5th. E-mail Lori at
lwatson@pikecac.org with the answer.

2014 Holiday Gathering Competition Rules
**Each team (up to 10 members per team) will perform a three (3)
minute routine, skit, etc.
**Timing begins on the first beat of music, voices unison, or
choreographed movement. You will be allowed to set up props
prior to your start.

Healthy Substitutions
Want to make healthier choices this
holiday? When the recipe calls for
seasoning salt try using herb only
seasoning, such as garlic powder, celery
seed, onion flakes, or finely chopped herbs
garlic, celery, or onion. Top green bean
casserole with whole wheat baked chips or
use whole wheat bread to make stuffing,
and give salads more color by substituting
spinach for lettuce and adding more
vegetables.

Avoid Overeating
Want to take some easy steps to a
healthier holiday? Don’t go to holiday
meals or parties on an empty stomach; eat
a meal or have a light snake beforehand.
Reduce your portion sizes and take smaller
amounts of your favorite foods. Skipping
meals makes it harder to keep your
consumption level in control and arriving
hungry may increase your chances of
overeating.
Holiday Healthy Eating
Eating several servings of a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables a day help
maintain good health. Here are some quick red and green fruit/vegetable combos
to enjoy during the holiday season.
*Red and green apple slices surrounding your favorite fruit dip like a wreath
*Cole Slaw with red apple chunks
*Pomegranate juice garnished with a slice of lime
*Juicy pomegranate seeds tossed atop a green salad.
*Tomato soup garnished just before serving with a sprinkle of green onion stems,
sliced into small rings.
*Peas garnished with bits of pimiento
*Pizza with tomato sauce topping and chopped green peppers.

Emergency Heating Assistance Program
in Full Swing for Pike County Households
Pike County residents are experiencing a taste of winter weather early this year and the 2014-2015 Winter
Crisis Program is now under way at Community Action Committee of Pike County to assist households
with emergency heating costs.
The program, which runs from November 3, 2014 through March 31, 2015, is in full swing and Community
Action Committee of Pike County has already assisted more than 300 households as of November 17,
2015.
Customers may apply at one of two locations in Pike County as follows: Community Action Committee
of Pike County, 941 Market St., Piketon, or if preferred, senior citizens may be seen at the Pike County
Senior Center, 402 Clough St., Waverly.
Maximum benefit amounts for wood or coal and for unregulated electric have increased this winter
heating season as follows: for wood or coal, the benefit has increased from $350 to $450 and for
unregulated electric, the benefit has increased from $450 to $550. The maximum benefits remain the
same for regulated gas and electric at $175, and for propane or oil at $750.
To be eligible for the 2014-2015 Winter Crisis Program, households must have total gross income for the
past 12-months or 90-days from the date of application equal to or less than 175 percent of the 2014
Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG), and must be experiencing at least one of the following emergency
situations:
The natural gas or electric utility (if required for heating) is currently shut off or in disconnection status, or
The natural gas or electric utility needs started or transferred, or
The household has 10 days or less supply (or 25% or less tank capacity) of main heating fuel (propane, oil,
wood or coal)
A face-to-face interview with an adult household member is required to apply for the program and
documentation required at the interview includes (but is not limited to) the following: Proof of gross
household income for the past 12-months or 90-days from the date of application; both gas and electric
bills, regardless of account status; bulk fuel company name and account number, if applicable; proof of
disability, if disabled, and social security cards and birth dates for all household members.
Customers may obtain a complete listing of documentation required for the interview by either calling
the CAC HEAP Hotline at 740-289-4525 (or toll free 888-328-9634), or visiting the agency website at
www.pikecac.org or by visiting any Community Action Committee of Pike County location to pick up a
Customer Information Sheet.
Appointments are scheduled by phone and 14 days in advance of the actual appointment.
Appointments can be made by calling the CAC HEAP Hotline at 740-289-4525 (or toll free 1-888-328-9634)
beginning at 8:00 am Monday through Friday. Appointments are scheduled each day until the
appointment schedule is full. At that time customers are asked to try back the next day.
Seven (7) walk-ins are taken Monday – Friday at Community Action Committee of Pike County, 941
Market Street, Piketon and on Thursdays at the Pike County Senior Center, 402 Clough Street, Waverly, for
senior citizens only. Walk-ins, which are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis, must be signed in by 8:00
am at the reception desk at each location and meet the following walk-in criteria:
The electric or gas is shut off or scheduled for shut off within 24 hours, or
The bulk fuel supply is out or will be out within 24 hours.
The appointment phone line is very busy during November thru
January of the Winter Crisis Program and Community Action
Committee of Pike County appreciates the patience of
customers as we try to serve as many households during the 2014
-2015 Winter Crisis Program as possible. Appointments and walkins will continue to be scheduled for the 2014-2015 Winter Crisis
Program through March 31, 2015.

The Valley View Health Centers and WIC
program were recently invited by The
Recovery Council who teamed up with the
PAWS organization of the Waverly City
School District to participate in The Red
Ribbon Week for an annual Prevention Fair.
The Prevention Fair was held at the Waverly
High School on October 28, 2014. The
employee's who represented the Valley
View Health Centers and WIC program
