Hello everyone and Happy New Year!
Oftentimes we take for granted individuals who touch our
lives in positive ways. It may be as simple as a warm smile at
the right time, a smile that says…I care and you are important
to me.
For all of us at The Children’s Assessment Center, our
volunteers touch our lives and impact our children in so many
profound and wonderful ways. This year, our holiday season
was truly a magical time for all of us. It began with volunteers
from IKEA Trading Services Houston who transformed our building into
a Winter Wonderland. Later, IKEA was joined by volunteers from Katherine Jefferies
and Family, ConocoPhillips, The Sheriff’s Department, SG Interests, CDI Corporation,
Black Sheep Agency, Macy’s Store #686, The CAC Friends Guild,
St. Ambrose School and many more who brought toys and volunteered at our
Holiday Party.
The holidays can be a very isolating and painful time for our children, which is
why we are so grateful to you…our incredible team of volunteers! Your powerful
message of hope and happiness was abundantly
clear. Our children know you care and they are
not alone.
Thank you again for believing in our mission
and in our children. We look forward to April,
Child Abuse Prevention Month, when we participate in many new initiatives and activities.

The Children’s Assessment Center has raised $23.6 million and needs to raise an additional
$6.4 million to complete its Restoring Hope, Rebuilding Lives Capital Campaign, which will
expand our facility to better advocate for all children in Harris County through the prevention
and treatment of child sexual abuse. The expansion will add approximately 77,000 square
feet to the current building.
The expansion will also provide the necessary space for the growing number of agencies
housed at The CAC that work on cases involving child sexual abuse. Since building its
current campus in 1998, the number of partner agencies has quadrupled, growing from ten
to forty-five. Today, partners include Texas Children’s Hospital, Harris County District
Attorney’s Office, the FBI, Houston Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force,
Houston Police Department, Texas Center for the Missing, among others. The CAC serves
thousands of Harris County children each year.
Recently, Houston Endowment awarded $4 million to the Capital Campaign.
“The Children’s Assessment Center is extremely grateful for the incredible gift from Houston
Endowment for our capital campaign. Our vision for a brighter future for children who
have been sexually abused is one step closer to becoming a reality,” said CAC Executive
Director, Elaine Stolte. “These funds will allow us to expand our facility to house our
entire multidisciplinary team and provide for a larger training center to educate teachers
and other mandated reporters. Childhood is a special time and every child deserves a
life full of promise and possibility. Houston Endowment understands our mission and
the impact this gift will make for thousands of innocent children in our community.”

The Live Auction artwork included a Rhinoceros piece by Peter Tunney, one of Gary
Komarin’s “cake” images, Cake Stacked Single Sack generously donated by
Gremillion & Co. Fine Art. Also included in the Live Auction was an exquisite piece
by New York based artist Roberto Dutesco, as well as local Houston artist Mitch
Ben Cotting, Sarah Cotting, Dena Miller,
Sara Bloom & Natalie Mohtashami
McGee’s Green Eyed Tondo, a unique hand cut piece on layered birch, oil stained
and acrylic. Last but not least, a striking Peter Lik piece, California Dreaming
rounded out the Live Auction. There were 28 exquisite art pieces donated for the
live and silent auction.
Event Chairs were Emily Essaye, Natasha Gorgue and Ashley Perkins, and fellow
Advocates Board members Natalie Mohtashami and Marcela Vij were also vital
members of the event committee.

The event raised $160,000 for the expansion of training and education programs
at The CAC which are critical to the prevention of child sexual abuse and the healing
of young victims.

6th Annual Holiday Coffee.

Ericka Bagwell, Friends Guild Board member and generous hostess, opened her
gorgeous home for this festive occasion to gather supporters and friends of The
CAC. It was another successful Holiday Coffee and guests shared the holiday spirit
by bringing gifts and gift cards to brighten the holidays for teens served by The CAC.

The morning was also filled with many holiday shopping opportunities that
benefited The CAC including beautiful Christmas ornaments designed by children
served by The CAC. Longtime supporter of The CAC, Lisa Holthouse, was in
attendance with her children’s book, “It All Started With A Turtle” and generously
donated 100% of the proceeds to The CAC. DruMichael Designs brought a stylish
assortment of jewelry for the guests to browse donating 10% of the proceeds to The
CAC, along with Debbie Porter who featured her book, “Fabulous Phebe
Elaine Stolte & Anne Carl
Dreams Big” generously donating 15% of proceeds to The CAC. UrbanHippyShop
showcased a divine collection of pearl jewelry designs for all the guests to enjoy and
generously donated 10% of the proceeds to The CAC.
A special showcase that everyone enjoyed was the Holiday Trees donated by
Cheeky Vintage, Kendra Scott, New Living and Rice Village’s finest merchants that
were auctioned at the event. Each tree was uniquely designed for The CAC and
made for fun and festive auction bidding throughout the morning!

On December 6th, 2013, The Children Assessment Center hosted their Annual
Holiday Party. With over 430 guests this year’s party was record breaking in
attendance making this holiday season memorable for both our families, volunteers
and staff.
Santa's Workshop
The Children’s Assessment Center would like to give special thanks to IKEA
Trading Office in Houston and their co-workers for their hard work and dedication.
For the third consecutive year, they have transformed The CAC into a magical place
during the holidays at their Deck the Halls decorating party and have brought joy
and laughter to hundreds of children at the Holiday Party. This year, children enjoyed
holiday crafts such as Rockin’ Rudolph, Reindeer Ring Toss and Snowball Blitz.
Guests also enjoyed food, games and even photos with Santa, while enjoying
the sounds of holiday tunes throughout the party. Lines of eager children waited to
tell Santa their holiday wishes and have their photos taken. Santa and his elves

excitedly greeted children as they came one-by-one to share their holiday wishes and
requests. Each child was greeted by gracious volunteers from Shell, Target,
ConocoPhillips and Bellaire Behavioral Hospital who assisted them in choosing gifts
to take home. Thanks to the great response from our donors each child was able to
receive two gifts of their choice.
Special thanks to IKEA Trading Services Project Lead, Brittany Thiemke who
did an outstanding job of planning and executing the party and to over 40 volunteers
who donated their time during the holiday party.

HCSO Delivers Holiday Cheer to The CAC!
19T H A NNUAL HA RRIS CO UNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE TOY DELIVERY
For 19 years the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) has delivered holiday cheer to children receiving services at The Children’s
Assessment Center. This year’s toys were delivered to The CAC by none other than, Santa and Mrs. Claus, who took a break from
their work at the North Pole to join Sheriff Adrian Garcia and HCSO employees to unload a truckload of goodies at The CAC just
in time to make dreams come true for over 500 children. On behalf of the children we serve, The Children’s Assessment Center
would like to thank the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for providing holiday cheer to the children we serve. This holiday season was
a great one and we are looking forward to next year and celebrating 20 years!
