From the Principal’s Desk
This month’s issue of the “Ranger Roundup” contains very important information about upcoming
state-wide testing windows with dates of modified and late start schedules. Also included are AP
and Senior and Underclassmen Final Exam Schedules.
Our goal during all of the upcoming testing is to maintain, as much as possible, a sense of
normalcy and continued instructional coherence for students. We learned last year that
accomplishing that goal effectively within a normal school day schedule, with our current space
and technology limitations, is next to impossible. We understand that modifying the high school
schedule for seven days creates an additional burden on parents and we do not make these
changes lightly.
The A.I.R. state-wide testing will take place for students in English I, English II, Biology,
Government, Geometry, Algebra I, and U.S. History only. Students participating in testing will be
instructed to report to their testing rooms by 8:45 am. Lunch will be served from 11:45am- 12:25
pm for students who test and those who want to have school lunch provided to them. Students
not testing and not coming for lunch will arrive at 12:30 pm. All students will follow a modified
four period bell schedule in the afternoon. You will find more details about which tests are being
given on which days on the next page.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we adjust to meet the new graduation
requirements and prepare students for this latest generation of assessments. As always, please
let me know if you have questions or concerns.

Keith Ahearn

SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE
Recently, I was one of 20 superintendents who co-signed a letter to our state School Board members, state
legislators and leaders at the Ohio Department of Education. The letter asked for these groups to involve
those of us at the district level more in the process when it comes to making laws and handing down
mandates that affect our students and staff. In addition, we ask for a new state superintendent that can
balance the perspective of all groups advocating for high quality public education and change in the
overemphasis on state assessments and the results. You can find the complete letter here and on our web
site. It is important that our leaders in Columbus know that we at the local level will always represent our
students’ and teachers’ needs first.

LHS Guidance Contact Information
Dear Lakewood Students and Families,
It is hard to believe it is the 4th quarter of this school
year! The LHS Guidance staff has really been
promoting our Seniors to check in with Mrs.
Diamond in the Guidance Office to let us know their
post-secondary plans. We are also encouraging
seniors to log into Naviance and indicate which
college they will be attending as soon as they make
this decision. This data will the community know the
percentage of students that attend college from
Lakewood High School. The scholarship list is
growing each week. We have paper copies of
applications outside of guidance and all scholarships
are listed on Naviance. Remember that we have
Mrs. Pam Sandoval from College Now as a resource
for financial aid questions.
On April 5th, we will be holding a FAFSA session in
Lecture Hall 2 from 4-6pm to help any students and
parents that still need to submit. Please RSVP to
Mrs. Diamond at (216) 529-4032 if you would like to
attend.
