President’s Message
H.V.D.
Happy Valentine’s
day, everyone! It’s
the season of love
and I’m sure many
of you are booking weddings,
boudoir sessions and maybe even
photographing a few weddings here
and there. It’s also a down time
for many of us when we can get
caught up with all the work we fell
behind on last year. This is a great
time to reach out to your fellow
members and ask for help! Most
of us are very small 1-2 person
ImagingUSA
I just returned from
ImagingUSA 2012 which was
held in New Orleans this year. The
weather was nice and there was
an interesting variety of programs
and speakers during the 3-day
event. Personally I would like to
see more Photoshop lectures in the
future. Times have changed. Now
there are more digital images in the
exhibit rather than the traditional
companies and we can’t be experts
in everything, but we can talk to
each other and help our industry
grow.
Your board of directors and I
just had a very successful strategic
planning meeting and are looking
forward to bringing some new
benefits to PPGBA and increasing
awareness. If you have any
suggestions, please don’t hesitate
to let one of us know. We want to
keep this organization strong and
growing, and we need your help
and input to do that!
We’ve got some great speakers
coming up including Lito Sy
who is an incredible wedding
photographer from Asia. You
don’t want to miss that one! In
March we have Laurie Klein who
is a well known artistic East coast
photographer and is offering a great
seminar the day after! So, bring a
friend and tell the photographers
you know to come check out
PPGBA, enter print comp and help
us grow into the future!
Mischa
prints. PPA set up a couple of large
monitors to display the digital
winning images while the winning
traditional prints were displayed
in the exhibit area. Visitors could
check out the latest equipment
from vendors such as Canon,
Epson and Nikon at their booths.
There is a new change for 2012.
The size of print competition
entries will no longer be limited to
16” X 20”. For more information
check the PPA website.
If you have never been to any
convention at all,I would highly
suggest you attend ImagingUSA
to be held in Atlanta for 2013. You
will learn a lot from it and it is a
great networking opportunity.

Niche Marketing with Laurie Klein
“Niche photography,
branding and marketing for
photographers in 2012”
What’s your Niche?
Thursday March 15th
Every successful photographer has
had to find a way to distinguish
themselves from others. Defining
that difference, or that niche,
requires an in-depth examination
of a photographer’s art and
where it fits into the market.
Photographers learn how to
discover and access their niche
market and the myriad ways to
become successful.
This lecture will cover:
· creating a mission statement
· understanding your core purpose
· how to make S.M.A.R.T. goals
· what makes you different will
make you successful
· Marketing
· Identifying your clients
· understanding demographics
· how to reach your clients
· position yourself for success
· using social networking
· gonzo marketing
· creating websites and blogs
February 2012
Participants leave with greater
clarity and a clear, detailed plan
for the future.
March 16th
Friday’s workshop 10-5
Finding Your Unique Visual
Voice & Portfolio Review
A Workshop for Photographic SelfDiscovery
Your photographs are speaking. Can
you hear them? What are they telling
the world about you, the photographer?
Are they expressing the unique way you
look at the world?
Join Laurie Klein for a fun and
challenging workshop that is designed
to help photographers find and cultivate
their own style. The emphasis will be
on your process.
For over 40 years, Laurie Klein has
been known as both a photographer
with a signature style, and an
instructor of exciting workshops that
help photographers discover their
unique, strengths, passions and joys.
Laurie attended the photography
program at R.I.T. and then received
her M.F.A. from Ohio University.
Laurie had the opportunity to be
mentored by Ansel Adams, one of her
heroes. He taught her that discovering one’s own artistic voice was the
gateway to becoming a fine artist.
Today, she is recognized mostly for
her signature infrared photography.
Her work is held in private collections and museums. She is sought after for her exclusive commissions and
extraordinary creativity workshops.
What makes you different can make
you successful. Laurie will inspire and
encourage you as she shares her own
artistic journey. She will challenge you
to develop your personal, signature
visual voice.
Bring 20, 4x6 photographs you have
taken that best represent your work.
Also, bring 20 photographs from
magazines or from the internet that
you wish you had taken. Though not
required. you may bring your cameras
and laptops (optional). We will have
models and will be photographing in
the afternoon.
