Fondation Enfant Jesus NEWSLETTER September 2015 Give the Gift of EducationSponsor a child in Haiti today September is back to school month. Unfortunately, not all children have the opportunity to go to school. In Haiti, the lack of access to education is a widespread problem. Without enough public schools available, many children are unable to attain basic education due to family financial hardship. Thanks to FEJ’s school, up to 500 children in the rural community of Lamardelle have the opportunity to receive a high-quality education. With a sponsorship of just $1 per day, we can provide a child with a quality education, two meals a day, and access to health care. But we need more sponsors to keep the school full! Please invite your friends to help end the cycle of poverty in Haiti by sponsoring a child today. The Fondation Enfant Jesus Center in the Haitian city of Lamardelle was badly damaged by the 2012 Hurricanes. The flood-waters destroyed the foundation holding up the compound wall bordering the school and health clinic. Thanks to our generous donors, we have been able to rebuild the foundation and wall protecting the school (see photos below). However, the health clinic remains vulnerable to future floods. We still need funds to rebuild the foundation and wall in front of the clinic. With your additional support we will be able to complete this project and ensure that the school and clinic continue to meet the educations and health care needs of the community. ` FEJ provides several donation methods for its donors. Every dollar counts. This program which has been successful in Lamardelle, aims to promote gender equality and empower women by providing them with the necessary tools and resources to create and sustain microenterprises. The women learn how to use their talents to build small industries and in the process, promote community development and generate economic power and stability. She has been a faithful sponsor of Watson Bien Amie for the past 7 years! Ann's connection with Watson began during an internship with FEJ in Haiti. She met Watson when he was only two years old and severely malnourished. Without her initiative to bring Watson into the programs of FEJ, it is unlikely that Watson would have survived to his 3rd birthday. Although Ann's internship last only a few months, she has continued to support Watson ` through her monthly sponsorship. The groundwork she laid during her internship continues to save lives too. Thanks to her work, and others who followed her, FEJ now has a team of community health workers who identify malnourished infants in the community and invite them into the FEJ nutritional program, putting them onto a path of health and opportunity. Thank you Ann! Adoption Corner Every two years, FEJ staff visit Le Crosic, France for a post-adoption reunion hosted by the Friends of the Foundation Enfant Jesus Organization (AFEJ). This summer a total of 28 adopted families and their children came together from June 19 – 23, 2015. Children inquired about their Haitian origins while parents shared their experiences pre and post adoption. FEJ enjoys sharing memorable moments as such with both its kids and their adopted families. 4 ; Fondation Enfant Jesus NEWSLETTER September 2015 FEJ hosts its First Annual Joint Board Meeting From the 31st of July to the First of August 2015, FEJ hosted its first annual Joint board meeting in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince.
