Jay Shree Krishna, Ashwin Patel Gurvi Gujarat January-March 2012 www.clevelandgujaratisamaj.org 2011 Summary Our first event was a hindi play, “Aaye Duur Se Milne Huzuur Se”, in April. This play was held at Independence Middle School. In June, two buses packed to capacity with our members left Shiva Vishnu temple in the morning after a light breakfast and arrived at the Canadian border by noon. Immigration at the border was flawless and we were in Canada where warm lunch was provided. Members spent the day at Niagara casino, visiting the Falls and enjoying the surrounding natural beauty and park. Our buses left Niagara and arrived at Jigneshbhai’s place in Erie. Pennsylvania, where we all enjoyed delicious hot dinner. We returned back to Cleveland with fond memories imbedded in our mind and soul. Our summer picnic at Edgewater park was again fun filled event, members came and cooked corn on the grill, and had great fun with shaved ice balls garnished with colorful and flavorful syrups. This brought childhood memories for many of our members. Lunch and dinner was provided and cooked at the park. It was a great success with so many members, old and new who came to patronized our Samaj. This event was part of the membership dues and free for all members. Navarati Garba at Tri-C community college were held on October1 and October 15. We had a live band by Mayurika Patel for one of the garba and DJ for the other. This event was well attended by our members and also by so many young Gujaraties and non-Gujaraties. The Samaj’s deepest gratitude goes to all sponsors, who donated generously to cover expenses for these two events. Again, this event was included with membership dues. Diwali Dinner was a huge success with our members this year. Dinner was followed by a musical night performed by Sunhare Pal and company. Singers were excellent and our members enjoyed so much that the musical program was extended for another hour. The Samaj is indebted to our sponsors, once again, for their contribution to cover part of the expense. The Samaj would like to apologize to our High School scholarship recipient Austin Makadia, son of Ashok and Banita Makadia, of Avon Lake, Ohio, for not recognizing him at the Diwali dinner. This was an oversight sight by the Samaj due to some breakdown in electronic communication. Corrective checks have been placed to prevent future oversight. On behalf of the Gujarati Samaj of Cleveland, congratulation and best wishes to Austin Makadia, 2011, Greater Cleveland Gujarati Samaj High School Scholarship recipient. Events Planned for 2012 The following events are planned this year and will be posted on the website as soon as details are finalized. Tomato Chutney Take two tomatoes, 1 carrot, 3-4 green Cheyenne pepper and mince them together in a food processor, salt to taste. Server in a bowl as a dip. Enjoy! Did you know that US consumed 3 billon pounds of Canola oil in 2010, of which 2.5 billion was imported from Canada. Canola oil has beneficial Omega-3 fatty acid and is low in saturated fat (less than 7%) making it a healthier choices among cooking oil. Gurvi Gujarat January-March 2012 www.clevelandgujaratisamaj.org Inspirational This is a shortest speech by Bryon Dyson, CEO of Coke Cola (30 seconds) “Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in air. You name them—Work, Family, Health, Friends, and Spirit and you are keeping of these in air. You soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, you will bounce back. But the other four balls—Family, Health, Friends, and Spirit are made of glass. If you drop one of these; they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged, or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for it. Work efficiently during working hours and leave in time. Give the required time to your family, friends, and have proper rest.” Car Tips Keep your tire caps on the valve, because dirt and moisture can cause a slow leak and eventually a flat tire, so be sure to keep caps on all your tires. Under-inflated tire can cause excessive heat and stress that can lead to tire failure. Check tire pressure at least on a month when tires are cold (when driven less than a mile). Inflate tire recommend by vehicle owner’s manual. Home Tips Freezers run more efficiently when they’re three-quarters or more full. When provisions drop, fill milk jugs with water and put them in the freezer to take up the empty space. E.coli strikes vegetarians too. Vegetables grown in soil fertilized with partially composted animal manure can be contaminated with potential deadly E.coli bacteria, which is most often found in meat. Before eating, thoroughly wash all fruits and vegetables. Humor TWO DIFFICULT THINGS TO ACHIEVE: 1. To plant your ideas in someone else's head. 2. To put someone else's money in your own pocket. The one who succeeds in the first one is called a TEACHER. And the second is called a BUSINESSMAN. The one who succeeds in both is called a WIFE. The one who fails in both is called a HUSBAND!!!
