Term 2 - Week 7
Tuesday, 7th June 2016
Dear Parents/Carers
This past week has seen some great rain across our region.
The school grounds are looking fabulous after the muchneeded rain.
Term 2 update
This week I would like to give a quick update of what we
have been doing this term. Our public speaking initiative
has been going really well. I hope that your child is talking
about Mr Lewis, Renee and Mrs Robinson being in classes
each week. I know that some teachers had to dress up
as judges taking part in a mock court prosecuting and
defending a fictional incident. The aim is to take the anxiety
out of public speaking by making it fun and engaging.
Some of our students will be selected to compete in the
ASCA examinations later on. The leadership shown to our
students and by our students will be invaluable to the
development of self-esteem and confidence. With reports
coming up, our teachers are continuing to collect evidence
and make informed judgements about student learning in
numeracy, literacy and all other Key Learning Areas.
Short Black Opera
We had several students working with international
opera singer Deborah Cheatham. Our students attended
four sessions with Deborah and her small company with
the aim of performing for family and friends at the Civic
Theatre. By developing performance skills our students
are improving their confidence and self-esteem.
Kamilaroi Language
Some of our students are learning Kamilaroi language.
Renee is working with a number of students informally
at first but with the intention of all students having the
opportunity to learn more about Kamilaroi culture. Some
students are already able to count and have a conversation.
By improving the depth of knowledge we all have about
our students and what they bring as individuals, we have
the opportunity to understand more about our whole
community. By increasing knowledge of our community
and our students, we hope to build confidence, selfesteem and respect in our school community.
Have a great week
