Staff News
Dear Students, Parents/Caregivers and Friends
Week 11 and Term 2 nearly done! Then half a year
of schooling for 2016 will be gone. It has been a
great term overall with much teaching and learning
undertaken along with a range of extra activities
(eg Under 8’s day, cross country, Naplan testing,
school review, Science Factory, Anzac services etc).
Congratulations to the Student Council for hosting
a great disco last Friday evening. There were
approximately 100 students from across the school
who attended. The P&C team was very happy with
the canteen side of things and the students were
very happy with their night out.
Congratulations to all who participated in the
Inter-house Athletics Carnival yesterday. A huge
thank you to Mr Esposito for his organisation of the
day and to all for being flexible about the change in
program due to the very wet track. The day would
not be a success, though, without the contributions
of many others – staff, students (including those
from Moura SHS who were helpers) and parents.
Most importantly - did the right house win? An
extra congratulations to Oxley House for their win
of the day as well as to the Age Champions and
Runners Up. Well done to you all! It was a huge
day for all involved.
Moura SS will be hosting the Dawson Valley
Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 20 July.
To finish the term off tomorrow we are hosting the
P&C Fun Run. Classes will do their runs at various
times throughout the day. Please remember to
send in completed sponsorship forms and required
money by 3:00 tomorrow.
After a huge second term it is certainly time for a
two week rest. Enjoy the holidays, recharge the
batteries and we will hit the ground running again
on Monday 11 July.
STAFF NEWS
Congratulations to Mikaela Meiers, SEP teacher,
who has been successful in receiving a mid-year
transfer to the Capricornia SDE based in
Rockhampton. She will take up her new position at
the start of Term 3.
As you can imagine, Mikaela is very excited about
this new job and I certainly wish her all the best for
this next step in her career and life journey. She
will be sorely missed in the SEP team and generally
around Moura SS where she has established
wonderful rapport with her charges and been a
dynamite with resourcing and advice/support for
teachers.
On behalf of our school community, I wish you all
the best for this next step in your career and life
journeys.
In Term 3 we will welcome Ms Laura Mosslar to
our SEP team and school community.

STATIONERY SUPPLIES
With holiday time approaching, please start a
shopping list of items your child will need to
restock depleted supplies. Pencils, erasers and
other such items should be put at the top of the list.
SCHOOL OPINION SURVEYS
The annual School Opinion Survey will be conducted
between 11 July and 29 July 2016. All families,
school staff and Year 4-6 students will be invited to
participate. We encourage you to take this
opportunity to have your say about what this
school does well, and how this school can improve.
Access details for the Parent/Caregiver Survey will
be sent home with students in Week 1 of next term.
LOST PROPERTY
A number of jumpers and water bottles and lunch
box bits have appeared in the Lost Property box. If
you know your child is missing items, please check
in the box that is located under B Block (ie near
where the students wait before school for the 8:30
am bell).
Any leftover items at the end of the term will be
cleaned and given to St Vinnies (or put in the bin).
RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOUR PLAN FOR STUDENTS
Silver Certificates – 83% of our Year 1-6 students
received their Silver Certificates for Term 2. Well
done, Students! Many students still continue to
earn and receive their Bronze Certificates too
which is very pleasing to see.

Junior reading Groups
Last Friday, students in junior reading groups
explored various different text types. As much as
we love reading stories, it was refreshing to remind
ourselves that there are other uses for reading. We
read recipes and instructions. Students with Miss
Strong made damper, which we had read about in a
book a few weeks ago. Students in Miss Fiedler's
group made duck food and lava lamps. Students in
Mrs Baker and Miss Rynne’s group explored
Japanese culture and made origami animals. A
great time was had by all!
News from 6S Classroom
On Tuesday afternoon 6S held an art exhibition of
their indigenous artworks they created this term.
Parents enjoyed seeing the students’ creations as
much as students enjoyed showing them off. A
huge thanks to Chris Lucht for all her enthusiasm
and time spent helping the students with the
paintings (and Miss Skelly with the display!)

The red brigade of Oxley has done the business
again to claim a second successive sports day.
Flinders were awarded the spirit trophy. There
were lots of great individual performances on the

The DV trials are being held here at Moura on
Wednesday 20th July (week 2). Students who are
selected to represent the school on the day will be
given permission notes first day back next term.
A Big Thank You to T&C
Our sports day was in jeopardy as late as Tuesday
morning due to water laying on the track from the
rain on Sunday. Ian Edmistone from T&C
excavations brought over a couple of his staff and
they got to work pumping the water away from the
track. The job they did allowed the track to dry out
sufficiently for the day to go ahead. So a big thanks
to T&C from everyone here at Moura State School.
Thanks

P& C News
DATE CHANGE: The next P & C meeting will be held on the 27th of July, at 7:15pm in the Library.
Thank you to everyone who supported the P&C Canteen at the Student Council Disco. Thanks also to the
parent volunteers.
The canteen at yesterday's Athletics Carnival was also a great success. Thanks again to parent volunteers
and to all the parents who made yummy cakes and slices to sell.
The P&C will be running its 3rd State of Origin Calcutta at the Coal and Cattle Hotel on Wednesday 13th of
July at 7.15pm. Please come and support your school and your state.
Tuckshop News:
Thank you to Miss Fiedler and a fabulous father who came and helped pack the baskets for Athletics
Day. Without these two, lunch would have been very late indeed.
We desperately need parent helpers for tuckshop next term as some of our helpers from this term will be
unable to continue.
If you have a recurring order through Flexischools, please check to make sure that the items are still
available and if not, changes will be able to be made after June 30.
Those parents who ordered over the counter last Friday, could you please re-order through Flexischools
for tomorrow to cover these orders. A big "Thank you" to all those parents who have already done this.
Attached to this newsletter is the Menu for Tuckshop for Term 3.
Have a safe and happy holiday.
School resumes MONDAY 11th July
If you have any spare Lego,
please donate it to the school for
the Student Council Lego Club.
Thank you!

QParents is coming
Great news: Moura State School is proud to be one the first schools in Queensland to offer
QParents.
The QParents web and mobile application provides a more convenient, easier way for parents
and legal guardians of Queensland state school students to interact with their child’s school.
Parents will have secure, online access to their child’s student information, anytime, anywhere,
through a smartphone, tablet or computer.
QParents allows parents to connect instantly with their child’s school to access and manage
their child’s student information, including:
• Attendance and absence details, as well as the ability to notify the school of an absence
• Behaviour information
• Academic report cards
• Class timetables
• Viewing unpaid invoice details, payment history, and making payments online
• Viewing and updating personal student details, including medical conditions and address
• Enrolment details
QParents will assist both staff and parents in sharing and responding to information in an
efficient and effective way.
We will be sending out invitations for parents to register for QParents in week 2 of Term 3 2016.
QParents won’t replace the traditional ways you communicate with our school, but it will provide
another way to communicate with us.
More information about QParents can be found at https://qparents.qld.edu.au/#/about
or by attending out parent information session Wednesday 13th July 3:15pm in the Library.
