Step inside the world of * The World of James Herriot is a museum attraction in Thirsk, North Yorkshire (God’s Own Country), England. Our attraction covers the life and books of James Alfred Wight, who wrote under the pseudonym of James Herriot, and he became one of the most popular writers of the twentieth century. His books, a series of stories based on his experiences as a young veterinary surgeon working among the farming community of North Yorkshire, sold in their millions throughout the world. Their great success spawned two feature films followed by the television series, All Creatures Great and Small, which enjoyed global success in the late 1970s and early 80s. Feature Film in the Foldyard The attraction is located in the 1940s period house that was the original practice of James Herriot, at 23 Kirkgate, known as “Skeldale House” in the books.
