Luxury Throughout The Year With Campbells
Luxury Throughout the Year With Campbells Welcome C ampbells of Leyburn is an award winning, independent family owned supermarket dating back to 1868. Situated at the heart of the ancient town, its unique character has developed over almost 150 years of serving the local community, and the many visitors that flock to the area from every corner of the world. Once you set foot in the store you can appreciate what thousands of customers have already discovered. This is a gourmet experience, where artisan style-producers using authentic ingredients have demonstrated innovation, alongside a range of Yorkshire and locally sourced foods and grocery items. A vast array of stock cupboard ingredients are a staple at Campbell’s so you don’t have to venture anywhere else! Just a Little Imagination F resh fruit and vegetables are naturally key ingredients in any kitchen. With a little homemade creativity and by choosing some of the exotic choices from the large selection in season, you can make any everyday meal just as magical as special occasions. To take advantage of freshness, don’t buy on low price alone as it doesn’t pay to buy more vegetables than you can properly store in your refrigerator. You don’t have to stick to tradition where the weather is concerned, crunchy winter salads are just as appetising and appealing for a quick lunch especially when accompanied by some of Campbell’s Deli products. Campbell’s buys fruit and vegetables daily from a Yorkshire supplier so you can be sure that they have you the customer at the heart of everything they offer, so if you want a particular fruit or vegetable to try out a new recipe or for an occasion, just ask and they will do their very best to supply what you want. For a seasonal gin and tonic why not experiment with a citrus selection to include: lemon, lime, orange, pink grapefruit and red grapefruit for a refreshing change. Embracing Gourmet Breads and Patisserie Products W hen bread is fresh from the oven and prepared and baked by experts, it can be delicious. However, there is a world of difference in taste and texture between a crusty white roll and a soft brown wholemeal bap - and they are just two of the numerous varieties of rolls baked in Britain. Rolls, in their turn, are one of about twenty different types of bread. In order to give our customers the widest possible choice, we source our bread from local artisan bakers with proven track records for quality and delivery. You know when you are near our bread area because you catch the delicious aroma of freshly-baked bread. All you have to do is decide whether you would prefer a barrel, a batch, a bloomer, a cob or a cottage. When local artisans and food manufacturers can demonstrate quality, we will always support them and the shelves are stacked with products from some of Yorkshire’s finest. You can stock up with classics like Cockett’s Wensleydale Fruit Cake, Yorkshire Tea Cakes, Bootham’s cakes and Whitby Plum Loaves. If you feel really indulgent, you can home in on Cartmel’s Sticky Toffee Pudding or pamper yourself and your guests with the range of classic desserts made by Country Puddings. These are perfect for special occasions and ideal for filling up empty tummies and keeping their owners happy. It’s a Matter of Choice B oasting a fine in-house butchery department, Campbell’s believe in supplying customers with expertly prepared quality meat. The butchery team are passionate about serving the highest standard of food and that is why they deal directly with farmers to source rare breeds and bid fearlessly for award winners at local shows and sales. Campbell’s is keen to support small British farmers who are committed to rearing animals naturally as well as demonstrating traceability. Close links with the farming community means that free range and rare breed livestock can all be sourced to meet customer requirements. Campbell’s aim is to offer and deliver what customers want, providing top quality meat to discerning cooks. For special occasions or just for personal consultation, the in-house team can offer the right advice to help customers select the best cuts for the purpose and then prepare those meats to the recipe specification. In house, Campbell’s produce ham on the bone, roast pork and beef, shoulder bacon, coated chicken breasts and barbecued chicken as well as Chinese plum duck breast, Mexican madness belly pork, Greek passion chicken, chicken fillets, sausages – meatballs, mustard and marmalade ham as well as cloves and juniper berry. Seek out a Special Fish Dish W hen Doug Campbell decided to give our customers access to the added variety of fresh and smoked fish, his first step was to identify companies that could guarantee the consistent quality we want our customers to be able to take for granted. More than a third of our suppliers are local artisans and small companies but our policy is to seek out the best, no matter where they are based or what size they are. While we went no further than Blubberhouses, near Harrogate, in North Yorkshire for MacKenzies Smokehouse, we just about topped and tailed Great Britain for two of our other leading suppliers:– Inverawe Smokehouse, which supplies smoked salmon and other traditional Scottish produce from its premises in Argyll; and Tregida whose smokehouse lies at the other end of the country in the countryside of North Cornwall, providing us with a range of more than 30 varieties of fresh fish. Campbell’s ensures that there is a wide choice of fish available in store. Tregida ensures that there are no artificial additives or flavourings just sea salt and oak. All smoked products are made by hand from start to finish, rejecting the conveyor belt process of many large companies. Tregida has gone out of its way to ensure the original smoking apparatus has been retained together with the techniques to ensure they produce an authentic, tasty and succulent end product. Brief Encounters F resh in store is the finest range of continental artisan cheeses both soft and hard mainly made from goats, cows and ewes milk, and sourced from France, Italy and Spain. We are aware, of course, that this historic market town and the glorious country that surrounds it are also part of the package that makes us different. A famous short walk – with disabled access - that follows a 2-mile limestone scar along the valley side, the Shawl was first laid out as a walk in 1842. It runs through typical Dales’ pastureland and ancient woodland to open up stunning views across the valley to Pen Hill. We have customers who combine a shopping trip to stock up with wine or rare breed meat with a walk to their favourite waterfall or panoramic view. Others are keen walkers. Romantics believe its name derives from a shawl dropped by Mary Queen of Scots when she was attempting to escape from imprisonment in Bolton Castle; prosaically, it probably comes from the word ‘shieling’, which means a shepherd’s hut. This final page introduces the Leyburn Shawl as a reminder that a shopping trip to Campbells of Leyburn is a visit to some of the most spectacular scenery in England:- This perfect introduction to the wonders of Wensleydale starts just a short stroll from our store.
