CHAIR’S REPORT
Allan Cosford
It is with pleasure
that I present the
second
Chairperson’s
Report to the
Members of the
Papakura Netball
Centre.
The Board has
met 13 times this
past 12 months
and I think it fair
to say we are becoming more strategically
focused with each meeting.
There have been a number of key highlights
from my perspective and I touch on these
briefly:
Financial System
PNC have transitioned from a very old and
unsupported Quick Books software package
to the Xero platform. This, together with a
significant review of the reporting structures,
allows the Board and management to have
an accurate and timely view of the financial
position of PNC.
Vicki Morgan has and continues to develop
her skills in her role and it is really pleasing to
receive accurate accounts for PNC within 3
working days post the end of the month.
Netball Development
Reading the reports from Briar and Raewyn, I
hope you gain an understanding of the
strategic view we are taking with our High
Performance programmes. The Board were
extremely pleased to double the number of
junior netball teams this year as well as fully
supporting the replacement of our Rep
Uniforms at a cost approaching $30,000.
Congratulations to Therese Dixon and Grace
Rhind for their awards.
Indoor Centre
The Indoor Centre continues to be delayed in
its’ completion and our latest advice from the
Bruce Pulman Park Trust is that it will be
completed in time for the World Masters early
2017.
The Board are currently in discussion with
BPPT in regards to the contractual
arrangements put in place in 2011 with the
understanding the Indoor Centre would be
completed in 2012/13.
The results of these discussions will be advised
at the Annual General Meeting.
Financial Stability of PNC
The Board are happy to present the 30
September 2015 audited statutory accounts.
You will note that the Net Deficit from
Trading was $21,961.
With the 2015 deficit and in reviewing the
2016 Budget, the Board has made a difficult,
but in our view considered decision to increase
2016 fees.
I will present the Board’s reasoning for the
increase(s) at the Annual General Meeting but
suffice to say it is absolutely imperative PNC is
and remains financially sustainable.
Lastly thanks for all the efforts of ALL the
volunteers, Committee, staff, coaches, umpires
and players who all contribute to PNC’s
success. I wish you all a safe and happy
Christmas and New Year.
We look forward to results of everyone’s
efforts in the near future.

A huge vote of thanks goes to all those hard
working and committed group of Volunteer’s
and the Committee who without, PNC would
struggle to deliver Saturday Netball and
many of our other programmes.
The
interaction between the Board and this group
certainly can improve and will be a work on
for next year.

Welcome to the 2015
Annual Report, a
time for reflection of
what has been yet
another ‘full on’ year
at PNC.
with her a wealth of netball experience, still
playing at top club competition level in the
Upper North Island Super14 & Regional Premier
League
competitions,
former
Counties
Manukau representative player and former
Coach of local Secondary School teams.
This year staffing
levels have increased
to keep up with the
demands of the new
and
enhanced
services introduced, in
an effort to ensure that we continue to offer
more netball opportunities to our netball
community.
Tina Morunga continued to lead the Netball in
Schools programme delivery through the
staffing changes. Tina’s strength as a qualified
Netball NZ Coach facilitator and Umpire, along
with her vast experience as representative
coach meant that the “In Schools” programme
was well managed with no undue interruption.
We are fortunate to have in Vicki Morgan (part
time Accounts Administrator), a highly skilled
and experienced ‘performance coach’. This
valued experience has enabled us to extend
Vicki’s hours by 15 hours per week to take up
the much needed part time role of “Netball
Development Manager”.

The year PNC took over full responsibility for
the delivery of the annual Counties Manukau
Secondary School competition from College
Sport.
The added volume of work this
competition created, along with increased
administration requirements related to new
netball initiatives, meant that part time Office
Administrator, Leah Carter also increased her
hours in season. Leah now works part time
October – February and full time March –
September.
We were fortunate to continue to contract the
services of 2 x part time Netball Development
Coordinators to undertake delivery of the
Netball in Schools programme. Sadly Netball
Development Coordinator Nicola Rowe said
goodbye to us in May. Nicola was extremely
well organised, competent and enthusiastic
team member, and we wish her all the best in
her new employment venture in the family
business and with her studies.
Nicola’s resignation in the middle of our busy
season meant we needed to act quickly to find
a suitable replacement.
We were fortunate to contract the services of
Sinapi Hanipale (nee Latapu). Sinapi brings
2015 saw the introduction of the following

wonderful team of volunteers: PNC Board, PNC
Committee, Umpires Committee, without
whom we simply could not continue to grow as
an organiation, offer more services nor enhance
our existing services.
We look forward to continuing to introduce &
enhance competitions & services in 2016!

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Raewyn Mills
Papakura Netball
continues to move
forward
in
an
exciting
direction
and has now fully
implemented all the
proposed structural
changes, in 2015. It’s
therefore important
to acknowledge and
appreciate
the
efforts that have
been made by Briar, the office staff and
development coordinators.
Acknowledgement and thanks must go to two
volunteers who are stepping down from the
umpires committee, they will be sadly missed.
Donna Redshaw the Umpires Convenor and
Therese Dixon who aptly led the weekly Umpire
Draw allocations and NZ Theory & Zone Exam
study groups.
Papakura representative teams took the court
this season wearing the new PNC rep uniforms
and were regularly complimented on how nice
the new uniforms looked. All teams had
excellent results well done ladies. The annual
Counties Manukau Inter-Centre tournament was
this year hosted by Waiuku Netball Centre. All
PNC teams performed well, winning most age
groups. Unfortunately we were “pipped at the
post” by Howick Pakuranga Netball Centre who
took the aggregate trophy home, beating us by
one point.

PNC and Netball NZ
Service Awards this
year, and was also
named “Winner” of
the
New
World
National
Netball
Volunteer “Officials”
award for 2015.
We further recognised and congratulated Chris
Loomans another volunteer who this year
received a PNC Service Award in recognition of
her volunteer efforts.
The Umpires Committee had another great year
of success. Special recognition must go to
those umpires who achieved Zone Theory, Zone
Award, NZ Theory & NZ Badge this year.
Papakura Netball offers many coach
development opportunities throughout the year.
One of the highlights this year was having
Noeline Taurua facilitate a coaching skills session
with our Performance Academy athletes and
Coaches.
Congratulations to those coaches who achieved
NZ Community Coach Award this year, it is
great to see so many of our coaches working
through the National Coach Development
pathway.
It was pleasing to see 7 out of the 12 Regional
Premier League qualifying teams were from
PNC.
My congratulations to Division One
Winners: Southern Cavaliers (Mangere /
Otahuhu). Division Two Winners: Manurewa
Rugby Black (Papakura).
Congratulations also to Southern Cavaliers,
Manurewa Rugby Gold and Aztec 1 who
qualified to compete in the Super 14 competition
next year.
We are proud to have 6 Papakura players
selected to the Counties Manukau Cluster
Netball NZ National Champs Team held in
Wellington. The team placed 9th overall, a great
achievement.
Special mention must be made of Nadia
Loveday who was selected to the Northern
Mystic’s team, and was also invited to Silver
Ferns Trials this year.
Thanks to Priscilla Campbell who assisted staff
with introducing the Junior Netball Programme
on Monday nights. We had lots of little people
turn up and fun was had by all.
Congratulations
to Grace Rhind
who was a Service
Award recipient
at the inaugural
Papakura Sports
Awards this year.
Grace is a long
serving volunteer
who has held
many voluntary
positions with our
Centre.
Lastly a special thanks to the hard working
Papakura Netball Committee and Umpires
Committee who continue to ensure the smooth
running of Saturday netball and once again to
Briar and the office staff for all their hard work.

1.
STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Reporting Entity
Papakura Netball Centre Inc ('the Society') is an Incorporated Society under Incorporated Societies Act 1908
and is also registered with the Charities Commission. This report is prepared solely for the Society's
members, as a body, in accordance with the Constitution and rules of the Society for the purpose of reporting
the financial performance and financial position to the Society’s members. The financial statements are not
prepared for external users and accordingly are defined as Special Purpose.
Measurement Base
The accounting principles recognised as appropriate for the measurement and reporting of earnings and
financial position on an historical basis have been followed by the Society.
Specific Accounting Policies
The following specific accounting policies, which materially affect the measurement of financial
performance and financial position of the entity, have been applied:
Goods and Services Tax
The Financial Statements have been prepared on a GST exclusive basis, with the exception of Accounts
Receivable or Payable. The net amount of GST Payable or GST Refund Due at balance date is shown in the
Balance Sheet as a Current Liability or Current Asset as the case may be.
Fixed Assets and Depreciation
Fixed assets are included at cost less accumulated depreciation.
Depreciation on the other fixed assets is calculated, using the diminishing value method and straight line
method based at the rates permitted by Income Tax Act 2007.
Inventories
Inventories are stated at the lower of cost and net realisable value. Cost is determined on a first-in
first-out basis.
Accounts Receivable
Debtors are stated at their expected realisable value after providing against debts where collection is
doubtful. Bad debts are written off in the period during which they are identified.
Investments
Investments are included at cost or net realisable value.
Revenue
Income from registered and unregistered players, donations, facility hire, representative fees is brought
to account on a cash received basis.

There have been no material changes in accounting policies by the Society during the period covered by
these financial statements. They are consistent with those used in the previous year.

TAXATION
From 1 July 2008, Charitable organisations need to be registered with Charities Commission to
have an Income Tax exemption by the Inland Revenue Department. The Society was registered
as a charitable entity under the Charties Act 2005 on 12 May 2009. The registration number is
CC39962. The Society continues to be exempt from Income Tax.

There are no contingent liabilities as at balance date. (2014: Nil)

PAPAKURA NETBALL CENTRE COMMITTEE
Papakura Netball Centre has a team of dedicated volunteers who literally live at the Centre during the
season, ensuring the winter club competition runs smoothly. Below is a list of the Committee members
and a summary of their respective roles and responsibilities at the Centre:
Representative Convenor – Bernie Loomans
Bernie joined the Committee in 2012. Bernies’ role as Representative Convenor
ensures all that Centre players and Officials have the opportunity to further
develop their playing and officiating skills through our Representative
programme.
Coaching Co-Coordinator – Stacey Te Moananui
Stacey has been a Committee member since joining in 2006. She is responsible
for convening the Coaches Club meetings and is the voice for Coach
Development at the Centre. Stacey has held the position of Property Manager &
Coaching Convenor in previous years.
Coaching Co-Coordinator – Geoff Simmonds
Geoff joined the Committee for the first time in 2013. Geoff is a member of the
Coaches Club and is also trained as a Coach Development Module Facilitator.
Geoff has held the role of Judiciary Convenor in previous years.
Umpires Convenor – Donna Redshaw
Donna joined the Committee in 2012. Donnas’ role as Umpires Convenor ensures
that all current and prospective Centre Umpires are provided with opportunities
to further develop their umpiring skills during the season. Donna is also the Chair
of the Umpires Committee.
Tuckshop Manager – Rhonda Turner
Rhonda is the longest serving member of the Centre Committee. Rhonda’s role as
Tuckshop Manager ensures that all Centre members and supporters have access
to beverages and convenient foods to sustain them during the season.
Fair Play Coordinator - Dennise Biddick
Dennise joined the Committee in 2005. Dennise undertakes the role of Fair Play
Coordinator, ensuring that Centre members continue to adopt the Papakura
Netball Centre Code of Conduct and encouraging positive sideline and on court
behaviour throughout the season.
Dennise has previously held the role of
Property Manager.

Junior Netball Coordinator - Priscilla Campbell
Priscilla joined the Committee in 2012. Priscilla assists the PNC staff to champion
and lead the new Junior Netball program for new netballers (Year 1 – Year 4) to
learn fundamental skills and games to assist them to get ready for Junior Grade
competition in future years.
Megan Lockwood
Megan did not hold an official portfolio this season, but continues to support the
Committee through completing ‘duty supervisor’ role on Saturdays. Megan is
also an active member of the Umpires Committee, a qualified NZ Umpire and
remains the ‘go to’ person for special projects.
Padmani Goundar
Padmani joined the Committee for the first time in 2015. She does not presently
hold an official portfolio, but will continue to support the Committee through
completing ‘duty supervisor’ role on Saturdays. Padmani is an umpire, who has
been involved in school netball roles historically.
Irene Timmer
Irene is also new to the Committee in 2015. She does not presently hold an
official portfolio, but will continue to support the Committee through completing
‘duty supervisor’ role on Saturdays. Irene has been heavily involved in club
netball for many years, holding administrative positions in her local club.
Warren Pitman
Warren joins the Committee for the first time in 2015. He does not presently
hold an official portfolio, but will continue to support the Committee through
completing ‘duty supervisor’ role on Saturdays. Warren is a qualified
Community Coach and has also coached representative netball.

COACHES CLUB
The Papakura Netball Centre Coaches Club
continued this year, providing mentoring, leadership
guidance and support to all new, developing and
performance coaches.
All Papakura Netball Centre Club Coaches are able
to join the Coaches Club, however Community
Coach Award qualified Coaches and Representative
Coaches, are specifically invited to all Coaches Club
meetings.
COMMUNITY COACH AWARDS
Ten (10) Coaches completed the five NZ Community
Coach
Development
modules
this
year.
Congratulations to Sinapi Hanipale (nee Latapu),
Dellwyn Rhind, Frank Brett, Theresa Chungsum,
Gineen Tutini, Cindy Hemopo, Kim Paea, Tracy
Walters, Jill Collins and Carole Lisle for achieving the
Community Coach Award this season.
The Coaches Club met three times this season, the
last meeting in August was to debrief the season
and brainstorm ideas to provide more support and
development opportunities to our new coaches.
All Coaches Club members are invited to attend
‘development
and
performance’
coaching
opportunities offered at the centre including:
Performance Academy education workshops and
court sessions. Coaches Club members also enjoy
weekly updates from the Centre, including Netball
New Zealand and Northern Zone newsletters and
regular updates.
This year, the Coaches Club members were
privileged to be able to collaborate with legendary
coach Noeline Taurua, to deliver a coaching court
session for the Performance Academy athletes in
late February. This was a great learning experience
for the Coaches and athletes alike.

NETBALL NZ COACH DEVELOPER PROGRAM
PNC Netball Development Coordinators, Nicola
and Tina attended the inaugural National “Coach
Developers” workshop hosted by Netball New
Zealand at Waitakere Netball Centre in February
2015.
The primary focus was on the training and support
of netball development delivery staff from Netball
NZ Zones and Centres. The Forum was seen as a
crucial step in raising the number of quality and
confident coach developers.
The NNZ Coach Developer programme is based on
a new initiative introduced by Sport New Zealand
and brings our coach developer process into line
with a nationally accredited programme.

NETBALL NZ PERFORMANCE COACH AWARD
This year three (3) Papakura Netball Centre
Coaches continued to progress through the NZ
Performance Coach Award qualification process.
They were: Adrienne Morrin, Vicki Morgan, Miles
Neighbour.
NZ COACH DEVELOPMENT FACILITATORS
Papakura Netball Centre is extremely fortunate to
have six (6) qualified NZ Coach Development
Module facilitators, they are: Tina Morunga, Nicola
Rowe (Coach Developers), Winnie Hauraki, Vicki
Morgan, Tracey Spence, Adrienne Morrin.
Coach Developers will be mentored once back in
the community delivering to ensure that they are
capable and confident when working with coaches
and umpires.
DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR CHANGES
It was with sadness that we said farewell to Nicola
Rowe in May 2015. Nicola was part of the new
initiative to develop netball in schools, and carried
out her role with much enthusiasm and integrity.
Nicola’s vacancy was soon taken up by Sinapi
Hanipale (nee Latapu), who commenced with PNC
on 18th May 2015 and brings with her a wealth of
playing and coaching experience.

UMPIRE DEVELOPMENT
UMPIRES COMMITTEE
Papakura Netball Centre is very fortunate to have
a dedicated group of umpires who volunteer their
time each season, to provide umpire development
opportunities to the clubs affiliated to the Centre.
The Umpires Committee continued to achieve
sound results this season, with a great number of
umpires achieving qualifications thanks to the
tireless efforts of this wonderful group of volunteers.
JUNIOR THEORY & WHISTLERS PROGRAMME
This season, members of this committee facilitated
two (2) umpire theory classes this season, with a
80% success rate. They ran three (3) whistlers
programmes, to assist new junior umpires to gain
some valuable practical experience before taking
the court to umpire for the first time. A total of 36
Umpires achieved Junior Theory.
ZONE & NZ THEORY EXAM STUDY GROUPS
Study groups were coordinated and facilitated for
Zone & NZ Theory exams, once weekly for 6 weeks
prior to each of the four (4) exams. These study
groups achieved outstanding exam results, with 5
umpires achieving Zone Theory and 2 umpires
achieving NZ Theory qualification.
PRACTICAL ASSESSMENTS
Practical umpire assessments for Junior & Local
Centre badges were conducted by the Umpires
Committee throughout the season, providing great
support and mentoring to up and coming umpires.
Thirty Two (32) Umpires achieved Junior Badge
qualification. Twelve (12) Umpires achieved and a
further 3 were endorsed for Local Centre Award.
Four (4) Papakura Umpires were assessed and
achieved the Zone Award, and one (1) achieved the
much coveted NZ C Award.
WORKSHOPS
This year PNC was fortunate to host two (2) umpire
development workshops. The first was held in
February, entitled “Process not Outcome” and
facilitated by NZ Umpire Development Group
member Raewyn Ronaldson and Northern Zone
Umpire Development Officer Jan Skilton. This
workshop assisted “Performance Umpires” to
understand the process and pathway to progressing
through the National Umpire Development
framework and understanding the Umpire Coach
role.
The second workshop was held in March and
facilitated by International Umpires Yvonne
Morgan and Fay Meiklejohn. Papakura Netball
Centre aspiring “Performance Umpires” were
treated to an awesome motivational workshop
from these two extremely experienced umpires.
In addition Yvonne and Fay provided 2
opportunities for Papakura Umpires to be observed
and ‘coached’ by them during the weekly twilight
Senior Premier grading games.

PERFORMANCE ACADEMY
2015 saw the
inception
of
the Papakura
Netball Centre
Performance
Academy.
In September 2014, 40 performance athletes were
invited from the Centre representative players and
developing umpires. 19 athletes took up the
challenge.
Rays Gym continued with their wonderful
sponsorship, and provided the all participants with
free 6 months gym membership. We are indebted
to the generosity of Ray Parker and the wonderful
team at Rays Gym for their continued support.
The key focus for the Academy was to provide
aspiring performance athletes with a ‘holistic’ view
of what it takes to be a true performance athlete.
The programme focussed on four key areas:
 TECHNICAL - includes the skill specific
development of the athletes.
 TACTICAL - includes developing game
awareness and game ‘smarts’ to ensure athletes
can read the game more effectively and make
better decisions under pressure.
 PHYSICAL - includes the strength &
conditioning component of athlete
development but also includes hydration and
nutrition and also injury management.
 MENTAL - includes the development of the
mental side of the game and the ability to
reflect on performance, develop routines for
training and game preparation, and
understand the positive impact mental skills has
on athlete performance.
The athletes, their club coaches and parents were
invited to take part and attend all aspects of the
programme. The programme content included:

PERFORMANCE FOCUS
The PNC Board “Performance” Sub-Committee has
worked hard this year, to develop the PNC
Performance Strategy 2015 – 2019. The finalisation
of this plan, has provided a great foundation with
which to build the operational performance plan for
2016 and beyond. Our thanks for the time and
effort put into developing and finalising the PNC
Performance Strategy, must go to Jeanette
Lockwood (Board Sub-Committee Chair) and SubCommittee members.
PNC is very fortunate to have Vicki Morgan bring
her wealth of athlete and coach knowledge and
experience, to further support PNC to focus and
strengthen the ‘Performance’ area of our
organisation.
Vicki has been working hard this season, to review
and understand our representative programme,
performance academy concepts and developing the
long awaited operational ‘Performance Plan’ for
2016.
Vicki has created and delivered the Performance
Academy (boot camp stylez) programme for
2015/2016. Yet another positive step in the long
journey to achieving our Performance goals.
Improvements will continue to be made to the PNC
representative programme in 2016, and we are

2015 saw the inception of the PNC Talent Spotters
Committee. Aptly lead by Vicki Morgan, this
committee was responsible for attending and
identifying potential talent at each grading day in
March/April. The identified athletes were then
approached and encouraged to trial for PNC rep
teams.

REPRESENTATIVES PROGRAMME
The rep season commenced in May 2015 and it was
with great pleasure that PNC introduced additional
teams in the Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 age groups.
2015 also saw PNC
rep teams take to
the court in new rep
uniforms. Our thanks must go to Kukri who
sponsored training tees for U15, U17 and U19 teams.
All teams looked very smart at the rep tournaments
this year, and many comments were made by other
Netball Centres about the new uniforms!
REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS
PNC had 9 teams represented during the rep
season. These teams were well supported by
qualified and experienced coaches and managers,
all of whom are volunteers.
Congratulations to the Year 8A and U19 teams, who
were the star performers of the Papakura Rep
teams this year.
The Year 8A Rep team were the most consistent
performers this year, playing 27 games, winning 23
and losing 4. They won their grades at the
Mangere/Otahuhu and Pukekohe tournaments,
came runners up at the Waitakere and North
Harbour tournaments, won their section at
Howick/Pakuranga, narrowly losing the final.
Cecile Sililoto was a Counties Manukau Inter Centre
Year 9 Tournament Team selection. These players
are definitely talent for the future!

Papakura U19 Rep teams’ performance at the NZ
Age Group U19 Champs’ was simply outstanding,
placing a very respectable 8th out of 20 teams. The
highest placing a Papakura U19 team has ever
achieved at a National tournament!
All teams attended the compulsory Fit for the
Season workshop which provided assurance that
athletes and team officials were able to utilise this
knowledge to ensure energy levels were high and
injuries low.

This team competed well at the last ever Netball New
Zealand Championships which was held in Wellington
28th September – 2nd October. The team was placed a
respectable 9th of 17 teams overall.
It is sad that Netball New Zealand has decided to
discontinue this annual tournament, which has been a
prominent fixture on the netball calendar for many
decades. However, we look forward to receiving more
communication from Netball New Zealand regarding a
new ‘participation’ competition to replace the National
Champs in future.
Talia attended several pre-nationals tournaments
with both our U17 and U19 Rep teams and then
travelled with the team to their respective National
Age Group Championships.
Active Physio has confirmed sponsorship again for
2016, we are very thankful for their on-going
support of Papakura Netball Centre.

NETBALL IN SCHOOLS PROGRAMME
For over three decades, Papakura Netball Centre has
provided netball development programmes for
players, umpires, coaches, managers and more
recently bench officials. Fun Ferns programmes (Age 4
– 6) along with competitions catering for Future Ferns
(Yr 1 - 4); Junior (Yr 5 - 7); Intermediate (Yr 7 & 8); U15
Collegiate (Yr 9 - 11); Collegiate (Yr 10 - 13); Senior
(Open age) are all annual fixtures for the Centre
membership.
KIWISPORT FUNDING
This year, we were once again successful in securing
KiwiSport funding to engage 2 x part time Netball
Development Coordinators to deliver the Netball in
Schools Programme.
Appreciation is conveyed to our

Manukau Sport who manage
the KiwiSport fund on behalf of
Sport NZ. Without this funding,
we simply could not afford to
deliver netball development to
our local schools.
The much anticipated inclusion of umpire
development to the 2015 programme proved
extremely worthwhile, with a total of 45 umpires
achieving minimum Junior Theory qualification in
engaged schools this year.
OUTCOMES
Nine (9) schools were engaged in the programme, and
the following is a summary of the successfully delivered
activities in these schools.

School Holiday Programmes delivered to the netball

SCHOOL CLUSTER TOURNAMENT
This year, as part of the Netball in Schools
programme, a school cluster tournament was
introduced. This provided opportunity for schools
engaged in the netball in schools programme, to test
their learning in terms of coaching, umpiring and
player development.
13 schools entered this tournament, and much fun was
had by all.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENT IN SCHOOLS FUNDING
In September 2015, we were informed that KiwiSport
funding will be available for a maximum 3 year period
for a specific project. Should our funding application for
2016 be successful, next year will be the last year in
which KiwiSport funding will be available for the
Netball in Schools Programme.
Whilst we appreciate that all worthwhile projects should
be working towards self funding, the difficulty we have
with this, is that being a charitable not for profit
organisation, in order to sustain delivery of this
extremely important programme, funding will need to
be off-set from revenue generated through delivery of
competitions, development programmes and schools
engaged in future.
We will be seeking support and guidance from our
National Sport Organisation – Netball New Zealand,
and Regional Sport Organisation – Netball Northern
Zone to determine how we can work together to
continue to deliver the Netball in Schools programme in
partnership, with shared costs and finding a sustainable
resolution for the future.

The league was run over a ten week period from 30th

The 9 qualifying teams joined Papatoetoe Rangers 1,

final placings on 21st August.
The competition general was again played at one
venue, Auckland Netball Centre.

Pre-Xmas Breakfast
2015 saw the inception of the FREE Breakaway
Holiday Programmes in January and April 2015.
Thanks to the funding support of Ministry of Social
Development, managed by Counties Manukau Sport,
Papakura Netball Centre took the lead to create a
multi-sport Holiday Programme based at Bruce
Pulman Park.
192 children aged 11 – 17 years attended daily morning
sessions, rotating through Touch, Turbo Touch, Rugby
7’s and Netball stations.

In the absence of a much needed volunteers strategy,
this year Papakura Netball Centre introduced the
inaugural annual ‘volunteers pre-xmas breakfast’ to
recognise and reward our wonderful team of
volunteers, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to
assist delivery of netball to the netball community.
This ‘pre-Xmas’ brekkie was our way to say thank you
to the numerous volunteers and spend a little down
time to share with them, their experiences from the
season.

Improving sideline behaviour remains a constant
challenge for most sports, and Papakura Netball Centre
continues to strive to ensure that positive sideline
behaviour remains integral to our competitions.
Similarly, we work hard to find ways to assist our clubs
and teams with initiatives to recognise on court fair play
and reward outstanding performance.

board this year, to assist us to reward
positive sideline behaviour during both
the Club and Counties Manukau
Secondary School competitions.

COUNTIES MANUKAU SECONDARY SCHOOL COMPETITION
COMPETITION RESULTS
This year saw Papakura Netball Centre resume full responsibility and delivery of the Counties Manukau Secondary
School Netball competition commencing in Term 2 annually (May – August). 67 teams participated in this
competition in Year 9, Year 10, Senior & Premier Collegiate Grades.
Umpires are provided (for an additional fee) by the Centre to this competition, for those schools who do not have
qualified umpires for their school teams. This year Papakura provided 25 qualified umpires for this competition.
To assist these Secondary Schools to develop their umpires and coaches, we offered 4 x coaching workshops and
umpire development opportunities to sit alongside the competition. Whilst the uptake of the coach development
workshops was disappointing, we were pleased with the uptake of the umpire development programme, which saw
10 x umpires gain their Junior Badge qualification this year.
Our thanks go to the following volunteer Umpire Coaches, for assisting these aspiring umpires to achieve their Junior
Badge Awards: Therese Dixon, Willie Hudson, Norton Reuben.
