Deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kristi Brossart, 49, of Wellfleet, on suspicion of seconddegree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. A press release from the sheriff’s office said the 19-year-old’s injuries were not life-threatening. Maywood rescue arrived on scene and transported the victim to Great Plains Health for treatment. The victim has since been released from the hospital. The press release said the two women were arguing when Brossart began swinging a yellow knife at the 19year-old. The assault was broken up by witnesses. The suspected weapon was found in Brossart’s pants pocket. NEBRASKA STANDS ALONE Nebraska now stands alone when it comes to denying driver’s licenses to young undocumented immigrants allowed to remain in the country by the Obama administration. An appeals court Monday blocked a similar policy in Arizona, the only other state that refused driver’s licenses for young immigrants shielded from deportation under a controversial program started two years ago by President Barack Obama. The ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals marks a victory for advocates who argued that the young immigrants were treated unequally by Arizona’s policy. But it can’t be used to predict the outcome of a pending lawsuit challenging Nebraska’s policy, said Amy Miller, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Nebraska. CITATIONS OVER THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND Nebraska authorities say nearly 200 drivers were cited over the July Fourth holiday weekend for speeding. The Nebraska State Patrol says 192 speeding citations were issued during a special enforcement effort that took place between Thursday and Saturday. In addition to the speeding citations, 12 drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Other citations included driving under suspension and having an open container. Additional troopers were on patrol during the weekend thanks to a nearly $19,000 grant from the state Office of Highway Safety. RECIPROCITY AGREEMENT West Virginia has entered into a concealed handgun reciprocity agreement with Nebraska. West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey made the announcement Monday. Under the agreement, each state will honor a valid concealed carry permit issued by the other. Morrisey says Nebraska previously recognized concealed handgun licenses issued by West Virginia. West Virginia now has full reciprocity agreements with 31 states. Seven states have been added since July 2013.
