Gregor Gorsic, Pastor (815) 886-4165 ext. 317 My dear family of St. Andrew the Apostle! On this Respect Life Sunday, we are still just beginning to appreciate all the many ways Pope Francis’s historic visit to the United States has inspired our nation. He is a constant and faithful witness toward a greater commitment to the flourishing of all of creation through respect for the dignity of the human person, especially the most vulnerable among us, including the unborn. Pope Francis spoke to all of us as he spoke to the Bishops of our country in these words: “The innocent victim of abortion, children who die of hunger or from bombings, immigrants who drown in the search for a better tomorrow, the elderly or the sick who are considered a burden, the victims of terrorism, wars, violence and drug trafficking, the environment devastated by man’s predatory relationship with nature – at stake in all of this is the gift of God, of which we are noble stewards but not masters. It is wrong, then, to look the other way or to remain silent.” We cannot remain silent to the plight of the most vulnerable among us, the unborn, and their precious mothers and fathers. We are called to pray, to educate ourselves and others, and then to advocate as God calls each one of us in some way. Praying or sidewalk counseling at our local abortion clinic is one way, promoting, volunteering and supporting our local Pro-Life Pregnancy Resource Center, Women’s Choice Services, through Baby Bottles or being a Project Gabriel angel in active support to pregnant mothers is another way. Speaking up against the funding of Planned Parenthood and the gruesome practices of actually selling baby/fetal parts after the abortions they perform is yet another way. We begin by prayer and informing ourselves, through the excellent resources that our Bishops provide at usccb.org, or through PriestsForLife.org, or through ILCatholic.org — then we move and speak. Whether it lasts for a brief moment or for a hundred years, each of our lives is a good and perfect gift. At every stage and in every circumstance, we are held in existence by God’s love. Jesus is with us every step of the way, giving us the grace we need. Every life is worth living. How is God calling you to receive, share and live this most basic message of the worth of every single human life? Let me simply repeat the Holy Father’s words again: “at stake in all of this is the gift of God, of which we are noble stewards but not masters. It is wrong, then, to look the other way or to remain silent.” Let our voice be strong, as we His children follow and echo the voice of the Master Jesus, the Gift of God’s life and love for us and for the whole world! In the loving Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Fr. Gregor The Little Saint of Great Mercy - Pilgrimage of the major relics of St. Maria Goretti Thursday, October 15 from 10am to 11pm - St. Mary Immaculate Parish, Plainfield While St. Maria is universally known as the Patroness of Purity, her greatest virtue was her unyielding forgiveness of her attacker even in the midst of horrendous physical suffering, a forgiveness that would completely convert him and set him on a path to personal holiness. In March 2015, His Holiness, Pope Francis, announced an Extraordinary Holy Year of Mercy beginning December 8, 2015. This visit of the major relics of St. Maria Goretti is an effort on the part of the Holy See and Treasures of the Church to prepare and catechize the United States for this great celebration in the life of the Church. We are blessed to have our parish be one of the stops on this visit! Maria is known as a wonderworker. She has intervened with the Lord to produce countless miracles. Of all the saints (over160) whose relics Fr. Carlos Martins, Director of Treasures of the Church, ministers with, Maria is the one who by far has produced the most miracles.
