Management Essentials Program L e a d e r s f r o m Al b e r t a f o r t h e W o r l d The Management Essentials Program (MEP) has been designed to provide a rich but concise survey of graduate level business courses. Key themes found in the U of A’s internationally-ranked MBA program are the basis for each course, giving you the opportunity to examine and discuss current research and theories while applying concepts to case studies and situations from today’s business environment. Is This Program for You? Program Highlights • You are a manager or leader wanting to increase your business skills and build your business knowledge. • Comprised of four, three-day modules, the program explores: Leadership and Strategy Development, Financial Development, Business and Operations Development, Business Development and Special Topics that are important in business today. • You have a minimum of two years experience with a public or private sector organization. • You are interested in exploring the topic areas associated with the Alberta MBA. • Utilization of a variety of tools to address the subject matter, including guest speakers, case studies, assessment tools and Harvard Business Simulations. • Inspired by our MBA program, the program increases your knowledge on a variety of business topics. MBA Credit Successful completion of the Management Essentials Program is recognized by the University of Alberta MBA program. Participants who successfully complete the program are eligible for up to three credits to be applied to the University’s MBA degree program. • The intent of the program is to provide you with tools and new ways of thinking, enabling you to make better tactical and strategic decisions in your organization. • Gain an expanded network of contacts, enhanced skills for meeting challenges head-on and a new perspective for advancing your business within the marketplace. • The module format allows you to immediately integrate the learnings into the work place while benefiting from the support network of the program participants. “The Management Essentials Program has been an outstanding experience. Marketing – The objective of this session is to develop a working knowledge of marketing as it relates to the establishment of a sustainable differential advantage in a competitive market. Strategic Thinking – You will leave this session with a clear understanding of what strategy is, how it is constrained, formulated, developed and implemented and what that can mean for your organization. Innovation – This session examines how organizations engage in successful innovation, including the role of the leader in developing and supporting organizational innovation capacity. Module 2: Financial Development – 3 days Decision Making – This session will explore how leaders engage in problem solving and decision making activities as they address different types of issues and challenges. Understanding Financial Statements – This session enables you to analyze the financial statements of real companies, and explore the relationships that exist between statements. Module 4: Business Development and Special Topics – 3 Days Business Economics – Within this session you will discuss basic economic principles and put them in context of the practical business world. Canada and the Global Economy – Within this session you will examine the changing global business environment and how it impacts business decision making. In this session you will be introduced to the emerging importance and complexity of CSR and begin to explore stakeholder responsibility. Case studies will be used. Full Program Fee: $7,195 CAD (plus GST) Individual Session Fee: $725 per one-day module (plus GST) $1450 per two-day module (plus GST) Fees include all program materials, breakfast, lunch and refreshments.
