Pin Your Goals
on the Highest Star
In the beginning, the eager new Independent Beauty Consultant didn’t realize the power of the
Ladder of Success programs – the difference they would make in her goals and commissions, her
relationships, her Mary Kay culture. Then, shortly after starting her Mary Kay business, Independent
Senior Sales Director, Beth Poole of Myrtle Beach, S.C. received an order from a customer that would
help her to attain Sapphire Star Consultant status on the Ladder of Success. But instead of stopping
there, she went on that quarter to achieve Emerald Star status, whetting her appetite for more of the
same. Today, Beth is a true believer.
“From that early experience, it’s always been important to me to be an EMERALD STAR,” says Beth.
“I call my customers each quarter and try to hold at least 3 classes each week. That means I need
product to supply my customers’ needs. I found that once you grow your customer base, reorders
keep them coming back. That helps ensure my Emerald Star each quarter. It’s a beautiful cycle!”
In fact, relationship-building seems to be one of Beth’s greatest gifts. “I love to educate women about
what our products can do for them,” she says. “Everyone has that sign around her neck that says,
‘Make me feel important.’ Once you do that, people trust you. Earn their faith through your knowledge
of products and what you can do to help them, and you build customers for life.”
Beth views her Star Consultant Ladder of Success accomplishment as her Mary Kay report card and
believes this program can help anyone make the grade. “My unit at one point had dropped to eight
active team members,” shares Beth. “Now they number around 100! This should give everyone hope.”
There are some tips on how you too can shoot for the stars!
Build a Solid Customer Base
The more customers you have, the more opportunities you have for increasing your sales. But it’s also
important to remember that a large customer base is vital for success, you must do the legwork it
takes to keep those customers interested in trying new Mary Kay products.
Making Connections
Growing your customer base is all about making new connections with people. You have to make
this first move. It is simply making new friends. Pick the women you liked and continuously made
connections with them until they connected with you.
Focus on Customers
“Outstanding sales depend on your ability to think from the customer’s point of
view and understand and respond to your customer’s best interests.” Mary Kay Ash
You have to be interested in each customer to meet her needs.
It is very important that she realizes that when you call her,
you’re calling because you’re interested in her and her
skin care needs. Once you build trust by remembering
a customer’s likes and dislikes, she is more likely to
introduce you to her friends who have the potential
to become new customers. Each appointment
comes from an appointment. It just multiplies.

DIQ Rally in Hangzhou, China in June 2008.
Grab the opportunity, like Mary Kay said “it is very important for you not to
miss a company or area function. These are the battery charging sessions
planned for your benefit, and all of us need occasionally to have our battery
charged. We have found that those who attend Seminars and Conferences
are the same ones who are onstage at Seminars Awards Night. It is the
path to success.”

2007 to 30 April 2008
• Recruiter must have cumulated 3000 personal sales points during the
contest period

A Qualified team member is one whose has a minimum of 600 personal sales
points during the contest period.
The new team member must be active in the same month she joins
All team members must be in active status by end of the contest period.
Maximum 5 recruits per month will count toward contest credit.
Independant Beauty Consultant Agreement forms must be received and
accepted by Mary Kay (M) Sdn. Bhd. on or before 29 April 2008
Letter of Intent must be submitted and approved by 27 March 2008
DIQ who started before the contest period are eligible for the contest provided she meets all the contest requirements.
Any recruit before 1 November 2007 will not be counted toward contest credit.
Must maintain “good standing” as DIQ or Sales Director by June 2008
