The VII International Symposium on Carbon in Mexico
The VII International Symposium on Carbon in Mexico
will be held in the city of Pachuca, Hidalgo, on-site Seminars Area University Extension Center (CEUNI) of the
Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo,
from May 18 to 20 of 2016
Organizers
Programa Mexicano del Carbono (PMC) and Universidad Autónoma del
Estado de Hidalgo (UAEH).
Purpose of the Symposium
Present a national synthesis of current knowledge of the carbon cycle
in Mexico in five thematic areas and their interactions: Atmosphere,
Bioenergy, Social Dimensions, Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecosystems.
Stimulate collaboration between academia, scientists, government
institutions and societal organizations, and to strengthen the
communication towards the development of collaborative work.
To hold scientific and academic workshops to exchange information on
topics of interest for the PMC community in order to generate collective
research agendas on the five thematic areas.
Analyze and discuss the future direction of the PMC towards short,
medium, and long-term strategies.
Meet researchers and program managers of Mexico-USA-Canada
(members of CarboNA) to define collaborative agendas.
Topics of interest for the symposium
Mechanics symposium
The Symposium will bring together specialists working in the area of
Carbon dynamics across ecosystems of Mexico to discuss state-of-theart findings and future research topics. The Symposium will focus on
cross-cutting priority themes on Carbon research in Mexico: carbon
fluxes between the ocean and continent, implementation strategies for
Reducing Carbon Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation
(REDD+), relationships between biodiversity and the carbon cycle,
emissions and removals of carbon at multiple scales, governance-related
public-information policies, scientific knowledge related to the carbon
economy, gender and rural landscapes, competitive and low carbon
development strategies, modeling and synthesis of carbon dynamics,
horizontal and vertical flows in the vegetation-atmosphere interface.
We also welcome presentations related to the carbon cycle in the major
thematic areas: Social Dimension, Atmosphere, Bioenergy, Aquatic and
Terrestrial Ecosystems.
The symposium will last three days (18 to 20 May), contemplated
taking an extra day dedicated to pre-Symposium (May 17) events.
Abstract submission
To speed editing of the memoirs of this Symposium, we will ONLY
accept extensive abstracts, which will be peer-reviewed for
acceptance. Accepted abstracts will be published in the memoirs of
the Symposium, which will have a ISBN for proper citation.
The deadline for abstract submission has been extended to April 4,
2016. There will be no more deadline extensions.
Please visit our website www.pmcarbono.org for complete guidelines
and examples for extensive abstracts.
