The Most Holy Trinity
Reflections, Announcements, News, Thoughts
The Pastor’s RANT…
Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
There is an irony each time we make the Sign of
the Cross. The simplest prayer (the Sign of the
Cross) reflects the greatest mystery of our faith
(the Trinity). The Solemnity of the Most Holy
Trinity is a celebration of the three PERSONS of
God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. To understand this central mystery of our faith is not a
matter of simple study. This mystery has been
probed by the greatest minds of history. It is a
matter of faith and trust in the words of Jesus
from Sacred Scripture. But, it is also a matter of
personal experience and encounter with the
three persons of God. As people of faith, we
have encountered the three persons of God at
various moments in our lives. We are the WITNESSES to the reality of the Trinity. In the sacraments and at other special grace-filled moments, we have met God as Father, God as Jesus, and God as Holy Spirit. We may not be able
to provide scientific evidence that would convince the skeptic. But, the testimony of a witness is usually the greatest evidence of truth
and fact. WE ARE THE WITNESSES that God is
ONE revealed in THREE persons.
Back to Ordinary Time…
When God Does Some of His Best Work
As the Easter Season concludes, we celebrate
some wonderful feast days (Pentecost, Most Holy Trinity, Corpus Christi). And, we head back
into Ordinary Time. The summer is meant to be
a little less hectic, a little more peaceful. But, we
know that God does not stop revealing Himself
in these ordinary moments. In fact, that is when
we sometimes experience God most powerfully.
I hope your summer months are less hectic and
more peaceful. But, I hope your experience of
God is far from ordinary during these vacation
months. Remember, God NEVER takes a vacation from us!
Your Church Tax Dollars at Work!
Parish Auditorium Makeover
The hall auditorium is used for so many wonderful parish ministries and events and it has
taken a beating over these many years. It is
time to renew this important space for future
events and our ongoing catechetical ministries.
Over the next few weeks, we will be making
improvements to our parish hall; anticipating
completion by the end of May. We thank you
for your generous support of our restoration
efforts in meeting the needs of current and future generations. When the work is complete,
we will host an open house for parishioners to
come and see the fruits of your sacrifices!

Restoration Fund
Next weekend, May 28th & 29th will be our monthly second
collection for S. Joseph Cathedral Restoration Fund. In
order for the Parish Office to keep record of your donation,
we encourage you to use the GREEN envelopes in the
pews.
RCIA: An Invitation for Everyone
to Community in Christ.
We are beginning a new “year round’ RCIA process”. If you
are interested you are invited to join with us at 10am in the
parish office. At Saint Joseph Cathedral parish community
we believe that everyone has an invitation to join the RCIA
process. The RCIA’s invitation is for those individuals who
have not been baptized and wish to enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ in the Roman Catholic Faith Community. The invitation is for those from other Christian Faith
communities who wish to become members of the Roman
Catholic Church. Catholics who have not completed the
sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist will find the invitation is for them to complete those sacraments. Catholics
who have not been active in their faith and wish to return to
an active sacramental relationship with the faith community
will find the RCIA a place to have that journey.
Evangelization and Catechesis are the hallmarks of the
RCIA at Saint Joseph’s cathedral. For more information
write Bill Bischoff at RCIA@sdcathedral.org or call the parish office.
Young Adult Ministry
You are welcome to join your fellow young adults (ages 18-39)
and Fr. Pat for special evenings of fellowship,
food, drinks and an open discussion about
Pope Francis, his life, and his latest apostolic
letter Amoris Laetitia. Join us May 25. We
will be meeting at the parish rectory at
6:30pm. These events are totally free and you don’t even have
to be a parishioner here! So, if you have a young adult friend
who you think might be interested, invite them along too! If you
have any questions or would like more info about the event,
please contact Dorinamae at dorinamae@sdcathedral.org.
Social Ministry/Outreach
Thank you for all your generous donations “to get on the bus” as
was talked about last weekend. We will be collecting board
games (in real need) and teddy bears this weekend and next.
Please be aware that several streets downtown will be
closed on Sunday, June 5th due to the Rock & Roll Marathon. Race related road closures will impede normal access to the Church Parking Lot between 5:30am to
2:30pm You must approach from Beech St. to enter the
parking Lot. Ash St. will be closed during this time. You
may Google “RunRocknRoll.com/Community” more info
with alternate directions. However, you still have to come
to mass!!!

(Romanos 5:1-5).

es mío y te lo concederá
(Juan 1:12-15).

Faith Formation
Faith Formation is a vital element of every Catholic
parish. The role of parish faith formation is to provide
organized and systematic approach to the instruction
and practice of the faith for everyone in the parish
community. The goal of this formation is to give each
member an understanding of their faith so they can
evangelize and witness to the faith in the greater secular community. The programs offered at Saint Joseph’s Cathedral parish reflect the diversity of an urban Southern California parish.
In addition to the weekly catechetical program special
events and speakers are presented throughout the
parish’s pastoral year.
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults)
RCIA an Invitation for everyone
to Community in Christ.
At St. Joseph Cathedral’s parish community we believe that everyone has an invitation to join the RCIA
process. The RCIA’s invitation is for those individuals who have not been baptized and wish to enter into
a relationship with Jesus Christ in the Roman Catholic
Faith Community. The invitation is for those from
other Christian Faith communities who wish to become members of the Roman Catholic Church.
Catholics who have not completed the sacraments of
Confirmation and Eucharist will find the invitation is
for them to complete those sacraments. Catholics
who have not been active in their faith and wish to
return to an active sacramental relationship with the
faith community will find the RCIA a place to have
that journey. Also, Catholics who wish to renew their
faith by refreshing their knowledge of the church’s
teaching are most welcome.
Evangelization and Catechesis are the hallmarks of the
RCIA at St. Joseph Cathedral. For more information

or info@sdcathedal.org. Parents are encouraged to
