GENERAL INFORMATION

The 9 European Conference on Turbomachinery Fluid
Dynamics and Thermodynamics (ETC 9) is held in
March 2011 in Istanbul (TR), beginning on Monday,
March 21 and concluding on Friday, March 25. The 5days technical program is supplemented with a series
of social events over the week fostering international
friendship, discussions and collaborative ventures.
CONFERENCE VENUE
The conference will be held in Suleyman Demirel
Cultural Center (SDKM) of Istanbul Technical
University. The Cultural Centre is across the building of
rectorate in the Maslak Campus (see map on last
page). The Auditorium hall is the University’s largest
hall and offers room for up to 460 people. It is a place
for gatherings, but also provides the setting for
graduation celebrations and other academic award
ceremonies, concerts and numerous other events.
On the one hand, having a 210 m2 lobby, 4 workshop
rooms each having 52 m2 areas, an atrium, a bar, a
restaurant and a café; Suleyman Demirel Cultural
Centre is a landmark not only in the university, but also
in the city.

TRAVEL TO ISTANBUL
By plane:
It is the most convenient way. A lot of airlines provide a
connection to ‘Istanbul – Ataturk Airport and Istanbul –
Sabiha Gokcen Airport’
FROM ATATURK AIRPORT
By taxi
Taxis are available from Atatürk Airport to Taksim
Square. The journey time may change according to the
time of day and traffic conditions (road works,
diversions etc), but allow between 30 and 45 minutes.
Cost can vary, but a typical fare during the day is
around 35.00 TL (€17.50).
By metro / tram
It is possible to use metro lines to arrive Taksim Square
from Atatürk Airport. Take M1 metro line first,
interchange to T1 tramline in Zeytinburnu Station, and
finally interchange to the F1 funicular line in Kabata
Station. It is possible to arrive Taksim in about 1 hour
and it will cost 5.25 TL (€2.65).

From 04:00 am to 01:00 am, there are Hava Bus
Services from Atatürk Airport Airport to Taksim in every
30 minutes. It takes around 40 minutes and costs 10.00
TL (€5.00)
FROM SABIHA GOKCEN AIRPORT
By taxi
Taxis are available from Sabiha Gökçen Airport to
Taksim Square. The journey time may change
according to the time of day and traffic conditions (road
works, diversions etc), but allow between 60 and 75
minutes. Cost can vary, but a typical fare during the
day is around 75.00 TL (€37.00).
By public transport
Using public bus line (IETT) E-3, it is possible to go to
4. Levent metro station. Then, interchanging to the
metro line, it is possible to arrive Taksim Square in
about 2 hours time. It costs about 5.25 TL (€2.65).

registration form. Participants may pick up the
conference material at the registration desk. Preregistration will be accepted until February 14th, 2009.
On-site Registration
A registration form to be used for on-site registration
will be available at the registration desk.
Registration Fees
The registration fees are indicated on the registration
form. All registration fees include a copy of the
conference proceedings (book and CD), coffee breaks,
the access to the conference sessions and the
Monday’s welcome reception Cocktail. The fees do not
include the conference gala dinner on Wednesday
evening, which can be booked separately on the
registration form. The day visitor fee allows attending
the conference sessions on the selected day and
includes the proceedings.

the early afternoon, from Monday, March 21 till Friday,

Conference Proceedings
The conference proceedings will be available on-site
for attendees, as well as the limited number of

THE CONFERENCE
Final Conference Technical Program
The final technical program is included in this brochure.
Speaker’s Briefing
The authors who are presenting their paper and the
session chairs will meet for a short briefing fifteen
minutes before the start of their session in the session
room. Please attend on the day of your session only.
Time of Presentation
Each paper will be allocated 30 minutes (including
introduction and question-and-answer period) except
where noted otherwise. Concurrent sessions will
maintain uniform starting times.
Audio-Visual Equipment
Each session room will be pre-set with the following
equipment: an overhead projector, a computer
projection system, a screen, a microphone and a PC.
Special audio-visual equipment which has been
requested in advance will be available.
Messages and Information
Messages will be ordered and posted on the bulletin
board in the registration area. The telephone number

Internet
One computer with internet access is available for the
conference attendees. Free W-LAN access is provided
in the conference venue.
Exhibition
Some space (booths) is available near the session
rooms where leading companies and research
agencies will report on their products and activities.
Smoking Policy
Smoking is not allowed in the conference venue.
Restrictions
Video-taping or audio-recording of any session during
this conference is prohibited. The sale of any
publication not authorised by ETC9 is also prohibited.
Coffee breaks and lunch
Coffee, tea and biscuits are served during the coffee
breaks in the morning and in the afternoon in the
conference venue for free.
For lunch we suggest to go to one of the many
cafeterias and restaurants in ITU Campus. Also,
Istanbul’s one of the famous shopping centre, Istinye
Park can be an alternative. Information on the
restaurants can be found in your conference bag. Feel
free to make your choice.
SOCIAL EVENTS
Welcome Reception
Attendees and guests are invited to start the ETC9
Conference on Monday evening with a welcome
reception hosted by Local Organising Committee which
will give you a chance to renew acquaintances and to
meet new friends. The reception will be held from 7.00
pm at Dahill Istanbul which lies in Yildiz Park, across
Ciragan Palace.

Conference Gala Dinner
Wednesday night we will offer you the opportunity to
enjoy the conference gala dinner hosted in ‘Portaxe
Shine Restaurant’. It's by the breath-taking view of the
Bosporus.
Local Organising Committee will also provide free
transport from Taksim Square and ITU Campus to the
gala venue.
Other ways to reach the gala venue from Taksim sqare
is taking the public bus (40T, 42T), and getting off in
the ‘Baltalimani Station’, and taking a taxi. Public bus
takes about 40 minutes and costs 1.75 TL (€0.90); and
taxi takes about 30 minutes and costs about 60 TL

- Visit of Turkish Engine Centre (TEC). Turkish Engine
Center (“TEC”) is a joint venture between Pratt &
Whitney and Turkish Technic for the maintenance
overhaul and repair of CFM56® and V2500®
engines. TEC is located at Istanbul’s 2nd international
airport Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) on the
Anatolian (Asian) part.
Free transportation will be provided by the Local
Organisation Committee and will be announced at the
conference.
