Dear Members,
Our last major project for this year, the new parking lot, is proceeding quite well after
a few setbacks. I would like to thank the volunteers that have been working on the
outside of the Club each week, the exterior is being well maintained. The FriuliVenezia Giulia Regional Dinner was a tremendous success with a sell out crowd of
300. The comments were very positive and once again compliments to our kitchen
staff for preparing an exceptional meal. At our upcoming General Assembly meeting
on November 15, a cheque will be presented to the Great Canadian Flag Project and a
photo op will take place with all members present who wish to be included. I would
ask our younger members to seriously consider donating blood under our Club's
name, and anyone interested in being part of the Young Members of Caboto to
contact Frank De Luca or Anthony Cutrone. Those interested in being mentored by
experienced Club members may contact Rick Buzzeo or Andy Moro. We are looking
for electricians who can donate their time to our Club to contact Bruno Quagliotto. I
want to thank all the members that have supported me as President during my first
year, you have helped make it a pleasure to work with you and the Board in moving
the Club forward in maintaining the stature we have in our community. This being the
last newsletter for 2015, on behalf of the Board and myself I would like to wish you
and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Cari Soci,
L’ultimo maggiore progetto di quest’anno, il nuovo posteggio, procede molto bene
nonostante qualche inconveniente. Desidero ringraziare i volontari che hanno lavorato
nelle parti esteriori del Club, ogni settimana, tenendolo in ordine e molto pulito. La
cena regionale del Friuli Venezia Giulia é stata un successo strepitoso, con una
vendita al completo di 300 persone. I commenti sono stati molto positivi e mi
congratulo con il personale della cucina per avere preparato un pranzo eccezionale.
Alla prossima riunione generale del 15 Novembre faremo una foto di gruppo con la
presentazione dell’assegno gigante per la donazione al Comitato del Progetto della
Grande Bandiera Canadese. I soci che lo desiderano possono essere inclusi nella foto.
Vorrei chiedere ai Giovani Soci del Caboto di considerare seriamente di partecipare
alle donazioni del sangue a nome del Caboto. Chiedo ai soci che vogliono fare parte
del “Young Members of Caboto” di mettersi in contatto con Frank DeLuca o Anthony
Cutrone, e chi é interessato a imparare qualcosa di nuovo con i Mentori del Club di
rivolgersi a Rick Buzzeo o Andy Moro. Abbiamo bisogno di elettricisti che possono
donare del loro tempo al Club. Le persone disponibili sono pregate di avvisare Bruno
Quagliotto.
Desidero ringraziare tutti i soci che mi hanno sopportato come Presidente in questo
mio primo anno. E’ stato un piacere lavorare con voi e il Consiglio e portare il Club
avanti mantenendo la sua grande posizione sociale nella nostra comunità. Dato che
questo é l’ultimo notiziario di quest’anno mi unisco al Consiglio per augurare a voi e
le vostre famiglie un Buon Natale e Felice Anno Nuovo.

Matthew Sandre, a Caboto Club scholarship
recipient, has graduated from the School of
Medicine of McMaster University.
Matthew is the son of Larry Sandre, who
also received a Caboto Club Scholarship,
and grandson of Bruno Sandre, a long time
Caboto member. Dr. Sandre will specialize
in Dermatology at the University of
Toronto. The Caboto Club is proud of
making a contribution to Matthew’s career
and wishes him continuing success in his
new endeavor.

A special thank you goes out to everyone who participated in the 35th
annual G. Caboto Club/Bruno Tonial Memorial Golf Tournament.
Because of your support, we were able once again to fund two
scholarships in Skilled Trades at St Clair College. Pictured here are the
winners of the 2015 tournament.
Flanked by Chairman John Benotto and President Dennis Segatto are:
Leon Dorssers, Owen Dorssers, Luciano Tonial and Bill Dorssers. This
year was very special, as Luciano Tonial, (who along with his brother
Bruno for whom the tournament is now named) was instrumental in
starting this tournament many years ago, has finally won.

Beer Tasting
We held our 1st Beer Tasting on August 14. All those
in attendance had a great time in being educated about
the methods and ingredients in the beers they tasted.
We had four breweries offering up ten different beers.
Our participants along with the breweries are all
looking forward to our 2nd annual Beer Tasting which
will be held on Friday June 10, 2016.
We look forward to seeing you there.

Home Made Wine Contest
This year we had over 15 entries. Once again our judges had a very difficult time choosing a winner.
A special thank you goes out to our judges: Alex Sorrentino, Sergio Martinello and Rob Brun.

Wine Tasting
Once again this year’s annual Wine Tasting was a success, with over 70 people in attendance, tasting 7
different red and 3 white wines. This year the winners were: for 1st place Artis Ingram, 2nd place was
Alessandro Sorrentino and for 3rd place we had a four way tie with Deborah Quagliotto, Angela Faoro,
Nancy Franzoi and Biagio Lattuca sharing honours.

The Coro Gioventù will be kicking off the Christmas Season
singing at long-term care homes (November). They will be singing
at St. Angela Merici Church on Saturday, December 12th
(4:30pm). Following the mass, they will be hosting the 2nd
Annual Christmas Charity Concert at 6pm. Attendees are asked
to donate canned good/non-perishable food items for those in need.

The wine tours are getting bigger and better as time goes by. Stay tuned for next year’s dates.

The Friuli-Venezia Giulia Regional Dinner was
another great success. With a maximum group
of 300, the Caboto Hall was filled to the brim.
The complimentary wine tasting prior to the
dinner (provided by VDF Importers) gave those
in attendance the option to sample a wine prior
to purchasing it. Our kitchen staff, once again,
prepared an exceptional meal and the
compliments flowed through the evening and
after with the many emails received. This makes
4 out of 4 nights that our Regional Dinner
outings have been truly successful. One
observation that was very noticeable was that
most of those attending were repeaters from our past Regional Dinners. This showed us that they are coming not only for
the dinner, but also for the friendships they have made from past Regional Dinners. In stating this, we encourage as many
members as possible to attend a future Regional Dinner and experience what everyone is talking about. A huge thank you
goes out to our Co-Chairs: Edy Facca, Egidio Sovran and Roberto Tonial and our Club Manager Ron Moro for all their
assistance in making this another memorable evening. Below is our next Regional Dinner, so reserve early to be
guaranteed a table!

Note: Do you have children between the ages of 16 and 20? With the assistance of the Mayor of Miranda,
Isernia, Molise, an opportunity is coming up for them to enjoy a 2-3 week visit in the month of August 2016 for
the cost of a plane ticket only. Information will be announced in our March 2016 Newsletter.

CABOTO CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY
Once again, Santa Claus will be visiting the Caboto Club! In this newsletter you will also receive your
official Santa Gift Card. In order to receive a gift, this card must be completed and brought with you on the
day of the Christmas Party. Parents print your card clearly and accurately to avoid any complications.
Gifts will only be given to member’s children aged ten years or younger. Your child must be born on or
after January 1, 2005 to enable him or her to receive a gift.
No gifts will be given out the day after the party.
Only Member’s children are invited and eligible to attend the Christmas Party. Unfortunately, children who
are not the sons or daughters of members – that is cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren or friends cannot
be invited. Children have been turned away in the past, and to avoid disappointment, we ask that you please
respect this request.
No gifts will be given out prior to Santa’s arrival, with doors opening at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, December
20, 2015 in the Canada Hall. Entertainment begins at 1:00 p.m. and includes a visit from Mr. & Mrs. Claus.
A hot dog lunch will be available while Santa visits with the children and distributes his gifts.

Christmas should be a happy time of the year with a lot of celebration. Unfortunately there are people
within the Caboto Club itself, who do not have the means to enjoy the Holidays. The Caboto Club has a
Committee set up to help members in need of support at this time of the year. If there is anyone in need that

THANKSGIVING DAY FOOTBALL GAME 2015
Tickets are still on sale in the Caboto Club office for this year’s American Thanksgiving
Day Football game. The game will be the DETROIT LIONS vs PHILADELPHIA
EAGLES @ 12:30 pm at Ford Field on Thursday November 26th.
The cost of the tickets are $120.00 US (must pay the Club in US FUNDS for the tickets).
Along with the tickets, you can either choose:
Option#1) $55.00 CDN for the bus ride over to the game and the tailgating OR ,
Option#2) $80.00 CDN for the bus ride over to the game, tailgating and dinner back at
the club after the game.
There are 2 buses and 90 tickets available for the game. This will be on a first come first
served basis. The buses will leave from the Club at 8:00am SHARP!!

Caboto Club Mentoring Program
The Giovanni Caboto Club Mentoring Program is ready to go! The program’s goal is to help our younger
members benefit from the vast experience of our older members in a variety of professional & non
professional fields.
As of now we have over a dozen mentors with skills in various skill trades, engineering, applied science,
management (manufacturing, hospitality), construction, machine shop and teaching among others.
They have volunteered to pass on their hard learned lessons as to what skills you need to develop to
succeed in that field, but not the teaching of those skills. Can you benefit from this? Do you know someone
that can? Let us know, and we can arrange a meeting. We invite other ‘vecchiotti’ to join our Mentor
Program. Network & Succeed.

member of the Caboto Club the basic of his trade. The lessons would be 40 hours in total and are free of
