The 20-year-old is studying at university in California, models in her free time and would eventually like to follow in her dad’s acting footsteps. ‘I’m very supportive of Corinne pursuing all her goals and dreams,’ says Jamie. ‘Corinne is one of the most grounded people I’ve ever met. She really doesn’t care about my fame. To her, I’m just Dad’ amie Foxx has made his name as one of the most talented people on the planet: an actor, r Jsingerr songw g riter and stand-up comedian who has won numerous aw a ards, including an Oscar and Golden Globe during his 25-y - ear career. r But fo f r fa f ther of tw t o Jamie, 46, it’s the opinions of his daughters Corinne, 20, and five-y - earr old Anelise that count most. “My daughters are the loves of my life f ,” say a s Jamie. “They hav a e soft f ened me in more way a s than I will admit – but I will say a it is Corinne and Anelise who hav a e taught me what’s truly importt ant in life f .” Jamie is speaking to He H llo l ! in his spectacular f mily fa l home in Los An A geles. Wi W th t its t Grecian-sty tyle entrance and panoramic views, the house is the f mily’s hav fa a en fr f om their fu f ll schedules. “Now that Corinne’s a young adult with a busy 74 HELLOMAGAZINE.CA college life f , I’m just gratefu f l I’m cool enough that she still wants to hang out with me,” Jamie say a s, laughing. Already making her name as a model while stu t dy dying at univ i ersity ty, Corinne shares her fa f ther’s devotion to fa f mily – including her maternal halff sister Leah, 6, who joined the fa f mily in this exclusive photo shoot. “My sisters are both much younger than me so I’m very protective of them; we don’t hav a e that rivalry that most siblings do,” she tells us. Jamie shares that instinct and has been carefu f l to keep the identities of Corinne’s and Anelise’s mothers out of the public domain. At the end of November, r however, r Corinne wi w ll be centre of attention at Le Bal des Débutantes, the annual debutante ball in Paris. She’ll be stepping out into society t with 25 other young women ffrom prominent fa f milies, including Isabel Beatty t – daughter of actors Wa W rren Beatty t and Annette Bening – all wearing couture gowns (Corinne has been working with Marchesa fo f r her dress) and jewels fr f om Swiss house Bucherer. r “I’m so proud of Corinne and I cherish every opportu t nity t fo f r quality t ti t me together, r ” say a s Jamie. “She’s one of the most grounded people I’ve ever met. She really doesn’t care about my fa f me and while she may a get certain opportunities and attention fr f om it, she keeps a very level head about it all. He’s also just so hilarious. He makes me and my fr f iends laugh whenever we’re together. r” Born Eric Marlon Bishop, Jamie was raised in Te T xas by his maternal grandparents. Encouraged by them, he studied classical music and composition at Califo f rnia’s United States International University ty. A stand-up comedy career began unexpectedly in 1989 when his then-girlfr f iend dared him to perfo f rm on open-mic night. Getting a taste fo f r the stage and learning that fe f male comedians were oft f en called up first, he changed his name to the ambiguous Jamie Foxx. In 1991 Jamie joined the cast of In I Living n Color and starred in his own sitcom fo f r five years befo f re hitting the big screen, earning the Best Actor Oscar in 2005 as Ray a Charles in the biopic Ray a . Seven years later, r Jamie reunited with his Ray a co-star Ke K rry Wa W shington in Qu Q entin Ta T rantino’s Dj D ang ngo Un U chained. Jamie’s values of hard work and education hav a e clearly been passed on to Corinne, a student at the University t of Southern Califo f rnia. “Right now, w I am studying public relations and business administration,” she say a s. “College is the best thing that ever happened to me. I’ve grown so much.” She has also recently appeared in a campaign fo f r the accessories brand Icing. “Modelling is a great way a fo f r me to work while I’m studying. And hopefu f lly, y in the fu f ture, I can f llow in my fa fo f ther’s fo f otsteps as an actress. “We W love to collaborate creatively on music and film proj o ects,” adds Corinne. “We W ’re both creatively minded, so we bond through our love of art, music and film. I wish I was fu f nny enough to be a comedian. My dad is gift f ed with his comedic talent.” SUPPORT R ING ROLE Corinne’s ambition must make fo f r a packed schedule. Does Jamie ever worry she’s overr doing things? “I’m very supportive of Corinne pursuing all her goals and dreams,” he says. “I fe f el unbelievably lucky k to hav a e tw t o wonderfu f l daughters and a career doing what I love.” Corinne – wh w o has Jamie’s surname, Bishop, but uses Foxx when she models – has also inheri r te t d her dad’s lov ove of sports t . I was also interested in using Le Bal as an opportunity to spread awareness about my philanthropy of choice, bullying prevention.” Even for a seasoned red-carpet professional like Corinne, wearing a unique Marchesa gown at the event is another irresistible draw. “I flew to New York for my dress fitting. I got to try on so many beautiful dresses. I felt like a princess,” she says. Le Bal marks a young woman’s coming of age and Jamie is confident Corinne will make the right choices in life, even when it comes to love. “Fortunately, she hasn’t brought anyone home who required scaring off. I’m ready, though, just in case.” LIKE FATHER, LIKE DAUGHTER Given her determination to follow in her father’s famous footsteps, Corinne has taken one particular piece of his advice to heart. “Dad told me, ‘Never let anyone take your happiness away from you,’” she says. “There are always people who’ll want to tear you down or make you feel you’re not good enough. My dad has taught me that no one can make me feel inferior or like I can’t do something.
