summer 2016 - Bay County Public Library
SUMMER 2016
All locations of the Northwest Regional Library System offer Summer Reading Programs for schoolaged children. With our Summer Reading Programs, we aspire to:



Advance the literacy and academic performance of children by engaging them in reading and
reading-related activities during the summer months.
Foster a love of reading through public library programs and services.
Improve children’s access to library materials and activities, which will encourage them to
become lifelong library users.
Not only are Summer Reading Programs fun, they are an important part of a child’s educational
experience and help prevent the “summer slide.” Summer breaks from school can cause a student to
lose up to one month of instruction, and disadvantaged students are disproportionately affected.
There is also a strong connection between reading and overall academic success.
Adults and children love our Summer Reading Programs:







“We love the summer program! What a great way to encourage children to read!”
“The teen program was wonderful. My daughter really enjoyed it.”
“My children can’t wait to get here every week for the Summer Reading Program!”
“The teen programs were wonderful this year. My daughters were able to use their creativity in
every program.”
“He really likes playing the reading game. What a great way to encourage children to read!”
“Love, love, love the Super Reader Wall of Fame. What a great idea!”
Thank you for such a wonderful summer program.”
