Dear McKinley Memorial Library District Resident,
I would like to thank library staff, the Library Board of Trustees, the Friends of
the Library, and the community for a warm welcome to the McKinley Memorial
Library. In becoming acquainted with the library, I have been very impressed
with the quality of services and programs that are provided to the community
of Niles. If you have not visited the library recently, please stop by to check out
what the library can offer you.

Browse our collection of new books on our main floor, as well as the variety of displays to meet
your reading needs. The library also has a large collection of downloadable books, available for
check-out from the comfort of your home.
The library offers a variety programs for all ages, including storytimes for preschoolers, volunteer
opportunities and programs for teens, and book discussions for adults. The library is the place to
be this summer! Library staff has planned a variety of educational and fun programs. Summer is
a great time for reading. Reading during the summer will keep students’ minds active and
learning. Be sure to sign-up for the summer reading program—parents and adults are also
encouraged to participate.
The library is happy to announce Mobile Printing. You are now able to print from your mobile
device, laptop or computer at home . Stop by the reference desk for instructions. Mobile Printing
will allow you to print something without the need to log-in to a library computer.

SUMMER READING KICK-OFF DAY
We will kick-off the 2016 Summer Reading Program with a day filled with
fun activities for all ages on Thursday, June 16th. Stop by the library at any
time throughout the day to register for the reading incentive program, to get a reading log,
and to take part in fun activities on the front lawn of the library! The first 100 kids and 30
teens to register for the reading incentive program will receive a free goodie bag!
10:00 a.m.—Chalk-It-Up Storytime for children ages 2-5 years
1:00 p.m.—Meet the Mascots. Kids of all ages can meet local sports team mascots
3:00 p.m.—Folk Arts performer, Ellen Ford, shares stories & songs for all ages on the lawn
5:00 p.m.—Hunger Games Challenge for teens ages 12 & up
7:00 p.m.—First Summer Lawn Concert of the season: Rudy and the Professionals
SUMMER LAWN CONCERT SERIES
Grab your blanket or lawn chair and your dancing shoes and join us on the
library lawn from 7:00 p.m.—8:30 p.m. on the following dates. Thank you to

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHTS
Grab a blanket or a lawn chair and head over to the library’s front lawn on the following Wednesday
nights in July for a FREE outdoor movie! The movies will begin at 8:30 p.m. All movies are rated PG so
the whole family can enjoy! Movie nights are free of charge and do not require pre-registration or a ticket to attend. In
the case of inclement weather, movie night may be moved to the rain date (listed below). Please visit the library
website, the library’s Facebook pages, or call (330) 652-1704 x 7214 to check for weather related adjustments.

ADULT PROGRAMS
Adult Summer Reading Program—“Exercise your mind—Read” is the theme of the library’s 2016 Adult
Summer Reading Program. Patrons are invited to explore a variety of ways to improve their health and
well- being, including fitness, nutrition, and stress relief. Participate by submitting a book review for the opportunity to
win prizes. The adult program is open to patrons 18 and older. Program runs June 16th —July 28th.
Adult Book Chat—Book chat will continue to meet the second Monday of each month throughout the
summer. Please contact Carrie for details or to join the book chat group (330) 652-1704 x 7205.
TEEN PROGRAMS
Thursday afternoons are just for TEENS at the library! Teens ages 12 and up are
invited to join library staff every Thursday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. from June 23rd
through July 28th in the McKinley Birthplace Home to participate in fun programs!
These programs are free of charge & do not require registration or a ticket to attend.
June 23rd—Indoor Mini-Olympics
Come work out your heads, fingers and toes with games like finger football & mini basketball!
June 30th— Tae Kwon Do Class—Taylors Us Tae Kwon Do from Warren will be here to teach basic self
defense and Tae Kwon Do ! Be sure to bring a water bottle and wear comfortable clothing & shoes.
July 7th— Creativity Challenge
Show off your skills in photography, videography, drawing, painting, writing and more at this exciting
creativity game! Are you up for the challenge?
July 14th— Ready...Set...Light it Up with Squishy Circuits
Who says playdough is just for little kids? Join library staff to make homemade playdough and then use
that playdough to create circuits and explore electronics!
July 21st— YouTubin’
Dive into the world of YouTube and learn about the hottest stars and get the skills you need to start a
channel of your very own!
July 28th— Eat Well and Prosper
Come learn how to make healthy eating an everyday part of your life! Participants
will get to make and eat healthy snacks and nutritious yet delicious fruit smoothies!

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS
Ticketed Programs
The library has your ticket to fun this summer...so ALL ABOARD! We’re simplifying the
process by eliminating pre-registration for summer activities! In order to better accommodate all of
our families’ busy and changing schedules and handle space limitations, we are offering first-come, first-served
ticketed programs! Below is a list of programs that will use the ticket system. Tickets are free of charge! All of the
programs below will take place in the Storytime Room in the McKinley Birthplace Home. Tickets will be distributed
beginning 30 minutes prior to the start time of the program and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
Little Sluggers Storytime for ages 3—5 years—This storytime program for children ages 3 to 5 years will
feature stories, rhymes, fingerplays, music, crafts and more! Each week will feature books and activities related
to the On Your Mark, Get Set…Read summer theme. For your convenience, this program will be offered at two
different times throughout the week to accommodate busy schedules. Children and their caregiver may attend
this program on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. OR on Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. This storytime program will run for 6
weeks beginning June 21st & ending on July 28th.
Ready…Set…GROW! Storytime for ages 4—11 years—Join library staff for a fun program that will teach
children how to take care of their bodies so they can grow to be healthy and strong. Children will hear stories and
participate in related crafts and activities each week on Thursday mornings at 10:00 a.m. Children will also be
planting a different potted herb to take home each week. By the end of summer, children will have a complete
herb garden to use with their caregivers to prepare and cook healthy meals! This program will run for six weeks
beginning on June 23rd and ending on July 28th.
Baby Ballers Storytime for ages birth—2 years—Bring your little all-star for this lap-sit storytime featuring
books, rhymes, music and more specially designed for infants and toddlers ages birth to 2 years of age. This
program will meet every other week on Fridays at 10:00 a.m. on June 24th, July 8th and July 22nd.
Movers & Shakers for ages 18 months—5 years—Get ready to move and groove at this music and
movement program designed for toddlers (18 months+ and walking independently) and preschoolers! Each
session will include songs, music, & instruments for your little one to shake, rattle and roll with! This program will
meet every other week on Fridays at 10:00 a.m. on July 1st, July 15th and July 29th.
Wednesdays @ the Wellness for Kids
Children of all ages are invited to join library staff every Wednesday from June 22nd through
July 27th at 3:00 p.m. for programs featuring special performers and activities! These programs
will meet in the Turf Room at the The Mayor Ralph A. Infante Wellness Center located 213
Sharkey Drive in Niles. These programs are free of charge and do NOT require pre-registration
or a ticket to attend.
June 22nd—Animal Games with Jungle Bob
Come see the wild antics of Jungle Bob’s reptile and his live animal friends!
June 29th—Take a Tromp Through the Swamp with Tom Sieling!
Children can sing and dance along as singer and guitarist/banjoist Tom Sieling performs live!
July 6th— Mr. Lemoncello’s Library Olympics©
Go for the Gold! Children can come solve clues & puzzles, and compete in fun races & games!
July 13th— The Great American Worm Race
Come hear worm stories and rally up your worm by singing worm songs! Children will design
worm race tracks, then each child will then be given a worm to race against other worms!
July 20th— Reading is Magic with Jocko the Clown
Step right up and watch magic at it’s fittest! Children can come clown around with Jocko!
July 27th— Ready, Set, Put! Put!
Try to get a hole-in-one at this exciting game of miniature golf! Library staff will set up six different
fun and creative holes that you can take a swing at…a golf swing, that is!
