in this Issue: national East Highlights The new freedom The new Covenant our god is an awesome god Authority in Jesus Christ President – Vernon “Rebel” Osborn Vernon’s View Even though we’ve had a wet summer, at least it was a little cooler than the hot August days we are now experiencing. Are we never satisfied? As in The Messengers – AUG 2007 Newsletter the days of Israel as described in the Old Testament, they were never satisfied either. As you know, Judy and I traveled to the CMA East Rally in Grey Tennessee in July and had a good visit and met a lot of CMA’ers we will probably never see again unless we return to that area. The services were very good, the riding was great and fellowship will be lasting. This was Judy’s first endurance ride on a long trip and she passed the test with flying colors considering we rode about 450 miles the first day in the rain. The second day it was raining so hard we couldn’t get out of the motel room to load until nearly 10:00am and we rode for a long distance before the gear came off. The third day we left the motel without having to put rain suits on. Monday, the third day, found us wondering around in the Smokies trying to cut over to Ashville and discovered the road had been blocked due to a truck accident so we made circles thru Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and the towns looked the same the second time around. The world’s largest circus must have been in town because the traffic made you stay on the brakes for about eight miles without twisting the throttle. To say the least the “Hoss” was getting restless by that time. Let me go back to our first day on the road, don’t try and stay in Natchez, MS unless you’re prepared to stay up and watch your equipment. Judy and I rode after dark and in the rain until we reached Jackson by way of DeRidder, Leesville and Alexandria, LA. on the way to Natchez. Back to the rally. It was as good as it gets with music and message. Now this is how God works. I had been walking around our little cargo trailer twice a day for a week. I never noticed until the morning we were to leave that the leaf springs had came out of the rear hanger brackets. Therefore, 1 ½ hours later after removing the axle and fixing the springs, we’re off and “On the Road Again”. ( Thanks Willie ) On the return trip, Judy and I pulled into a service station for fuel and a young homeless man came over to borrow .50cents and you could smell beer on his breath. In fact, he said he wanted to go and buy a beer so I gave him all the change I had in my pocket and I started talking to him and that led into witnessing. To shorten all the details of this story, Judy and I led him to the Lord there in this service station parking lot. I knew when I found the trailer problem that morning, God was up to something and He was. It was all about meeting a young homeless man who needed to get drunk on Jesus and not on a bottle. As I left the station I believe God confirmed to me why He delayed my leaving. At another station stop, and I made many, we met an interesting man who got to talking to us about Judy’s trike and then left. A little while later he returned and really got to talking about the area we were in and some things to see but he shared his testimony and I learned he was an evangelist who travels all over as he is called to various churches throughout many states to preach the gospel. His name is Larry McAmis and he proceeded to unload plastic cartons from his car that was full of DVD’s. He gave us a stack to watch and said to write him if we needed any more. Well, since we’ve been home we have watched some and he is very good with old fashioned “fire and brimstone” type preaching. On the way back home, we finally got to ride the Natchez Trace which was relaxing and somewhat disappointing to me but Judy enjoyed it. We traveled home going through Leesville to Highway 190 and I found that trip to be enjoyable with trees offering some shade from the sun. God is good. I would go back to Tennessee for some riding. The country and history is worth the trip. There is something spiritual about the beauty and the people we met. That’s my view for this month. God bless all of you. The Messengers – AUG 2007 Newsletter Our God is an Awesome God! Moses and his people, the Israelites, were in the desert, but what was he going to do with them? They had to be fed, and feeding 2 or 3 million people requires a lot of food. According to the Quartermaster General in the Army, it is reported that Moses would have to have had 1500 tons of food each day. Do you know that to bring that much food each day, two freight trains, each at least a mile long, would be required! Besides you must remember, they were out in the desert, so they would have to have firewood to use in cooking the food. This would take 4000 tons of wood and a few more freight trains, each a mile long, just for one day. Just think, they were forty years in transit. And Oh yes! They would have to have water. If they only had enough to drink and wash a few dishes, it would take 11,000,000 gallons each day and a freight train with tank cars, 1800 miles long, just to bring water! And then another thing! They had to get across the Red Sea at night. Now, if they went on a narrow path, double file, the line would be 800 miles long and would require 35 days and nights to get through. So there had to be a space in the Red Sea, 3 miles wide so that they could walk 5000 abreast to get over in one night. But then, there is another problem...each time they camped at the end of the day, a campground two-thirds the size of the state of Rhode Island was required, or a total of 750 square miles... think of it! This much space for camping. Do you think Moses figured all this out before he left Egypt? I think not! You see, Moses believed in God. God took care of these things for him. Now do you think God has any problem taking care of your needs? I asked the Lord to bless you As I prayed for you today. To guide you and protect you as you go along your way. His love is always with you, His promises are true, And when we give Him all our cares, You know He will see us through. So when the road you're traveling on seems difficult at best, just remember to keep praying and God will do the rest. Author Unknown Secretary / Treasurer – Judy “HONEYBEE” Osborn Judy’s Jabbers Isaiah 41:10 Have you ever heard the expression- If you can’t handle the heat – Get out of the kitchen? Well this heat is getting to me. So I haven’t been in the kitchen much. And Vernon will vouch for me. This summer, many new and exciting changes have happened in my life, giving me a fresh taste of Freedom. The Messengers – AUG 2007 Newsletter Freedom means I have been set free to become all that God wants me to be, to achieve all that God wants me to achieve, to enjoy all that God wants me to enjoy. You know there are choices and changes that are right around the corner that can even seem a little sweeter than years past, because the direction we choose to go is solely up to us-and God. Being dependent on God doesn’t interfere with that new found freedom. Relying on God for guidance, strength, comfort, wisdom and countless other gifts allows us to risk throwing yourself wholeheartedly into the adventure of life. It gives you the freedom and courage to tackle higher and harder things. The closer the “partnership” you have with God, the freer you’ll find you are to reach your true potential. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17 We have freedom now, because Christ made us free. So stand strong Galatians 5:1 He who trusts in himself is lost. He who trusts in God can do all things. (Saint Alphonsus Liguori) PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for the freedom that I have in You and for my newfound freedoms in life. Help me always to remember to rely on You for everything that I need as I leap into the adventure of living out what You call me to do. New and exciting changes await me, but they are even more exciting with You by my side. In Jesus Name Amen. Vice President - Gary “Speedo” Teel What a busy month it has been and it doesn’t look like it is going to let up any time soon and thank God for that. It is such a blessing to serve Him. It is what this chapter and CMA is all about. Looking at the calendar I just sent out, it is going to be a busy time all the way through November. God is blessing the chapter in so many ways they are too numerous to count. God is blessing the lives of my family and me as well. I would like to just take a moment and praise His holy name. I thank him for my health and my job. I thank Him for my wife and children and their health as well. I thank Him for the miracle of life as I have just found out recently that my daughter in law is expecting. I thank Him for His grace and mercy. And The Messengers – AUG 2007 Newsletter most of all I thank Him for dying on the cross for me. For it was by the shed blood of Jesus that we are able to have a relationship with God, once and for all. The new covenant, a covenant of grace. Hebrews 8: 7 – 12 reads; For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. 8 Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the LORD. 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 11 None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Under God’s new agreement, God’s law is inside us and no longer an external set of rules and principles. The Holy Spirit reminds us of Christ’s words, quickens our consciences, influences our motives and desires, and makes us want to obey. Thank you Jesus for loving us enough to die for us in fulfillment of the scriptures so we can be set free under the new covenant established through the grace, mercy and shed blood of Jesus Christ. I thank God for the perfect Lamb sacrifice. I thank God for His perfect Son, the new covenant. Chaplain – Robert “Bo” Chelette The Messengers – AUG 2007 Newsletter Authority in Christ Jesus Authority by definition is this-"Legal power or right; influence conferred by character or station; person in power; testimony; credibility; precedent." Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior operated in Power and Authority during His life on earth and just as Power and Authority was given to Him by God the Father, after the death, burial, resurrection and ascension into Heaven, Jesus passed His Power and Authority on as well. The recipient of this Power and Authority will be revealed latter. In Christ Jesus, every faithful believer has life only "in Christ Jesus". In Christ means that the believer now lives and acts in the sphere of Christ Jesus, to become more like Christ in every way with all Power and Authority in Him. In Ephesians 1:5, we see that we have been adopted as children by Jesus Christ to himself. Also, this adoption has been sealed by the Holy Spirit (Eph.1:13). As a seal the Holy Spirit is given to the believers as God's mark of ownership, one has the evidence that we are God's adopted child and that redemption is real when the Holy Spirit is present in our lives. The Holy Spirit regenerates and renews us, delivers us from the power of sin and fills us with Power to witness for Him, is the first installment of our inheritance, is the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, reveals the mystery of Christ and desires repeatedly to fill us and empowers us as well as help us in prayer and spiritual warfare. In the Gospel of Mark one of the primary goals is to show Jesus' concern to defeat satan and his demonic powers. The scriptures teaches us that no true believer that is indwelt by the Holy Spirit can be demon possessed, however demons may influence our thoughts, emotions and actions if we fail to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised true believers Authority and Power over the powers of satan and his demons. We must wage war with intense spiritual warfare through the Power of the Holy Spirit, in this way we can be set free from the powers of darkness. See Luke 4:14-19 also, see Acts 1:8, In these scriptures we see that Jesus gives the purpose of His Spirit-anointed ministry. 1) to preach the gospel to the poor and broken hearted 2) to heal those who are bruised and oppressed, both physical and spiritual 3) to open the spiritual eyes of those blinded by the world 4) to release those in captivity and bondage 5) to proclaim the time of true freedom and salvation All those who are filled with the Spirit are called to share Jesus' ministry in these ways. We as born again Spirit filled children of the living God are the recipients of the Power and Authority in Christ Jesus over satan and his demonic spirits, we are heirs to the throne of God and co-heirs with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We as Christians need to take hold of these truths and operate in our God given Power and Authority in Christ Jesus and take back what the enemy has stole from us. God's word is full of scriptures and instances where His chosen have been given Power and Authority over evil. Matthew 16:19 "And I will give unto thee the keys of the Kingdom of heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." James 4:7 "Submit yourselves therefore to God, Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." Luke 10:19 "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you." John 14:12 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works that these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. Mark 16:17-18 "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover." The list goes on and on from the Old testament to the New. As children of God, we need to step up and step out, and take our rightful place of Authority in Christ Jesus and bind satan from our lives, our families, our homes, our possessions, our businesses, our churches, our chapter, and anything that would affect our relationship with Christ and cast him out daily, quoting and standing on the Word of God. Preserving our promise of protection and freedom over our lives from satan and his demonic plans to destroy us. Amen. "The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, And be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, And give thee peace.
