AUGUST 2016
♡ SPEAKING FROM THE HEART ♡
August greets us with sunny blue skies, a calm warm breeze and a gentle reminder
to enjoy the waning days of summer before cooler temperatures prevail. Mother
Nature is a quiet teacher of life’s lessons. There is so much to be learned from the gardens that
are blossoming with floral and vegetable life all around our community. They help to reveal truth
about how we tend to and nurture relationships.
If you stand quietly among the summer fields and watch the bumblebees go from blossom to
sweet blossom, you witness an intimacy that is one with the garden. The bees make a buzzing
noise as they brush past you seeking only the sweetness of nectar. The instinct may be to brush
away the insect. However, if you maintain your stance among the beautiful colors and scents that
Mother Nature produces, you come to understand that the bees have no interest in you, but are
solely focused on the garden blooms. Acceptance of the bees’ place among the growing vegetation,
floral life and human kind, sheds light upon the shared space and time with nature and one another.
Summer’s warm days invite us to embrace the chance for adventure, excitement, or quiet
contemplation. After a full afternoon of tasting the sweetness of life, allow yourself the peaceful
respite of a serene evening where the only objective is to answer your need for self-care. The
early evening quiet offers a tranquil pause for reflection, self-awareness and rejuvenation. Give
yourself the gift of feeling comforted, with a renewed sense of strength to face tomorrow’s
challenges.
Knowing that life is change, we often struggle to maintain a sense of order and control over our
world. Our bodies, relationships and capabilities change before our eyes, leaving us to create a
brand new tomorrow. Take the time to plan joyous celebrations that mark ordinary events worthy
of recognition. Remember – YOU are important. Ask for what you need…reach out for a hug, an
opinion, a listening ear, time together or time alone to celebrate the uniqueness of you.
With love, Marian A NOT FOR PROFIT AGENCY FUNDED UNDER CONTRACT WITH THE NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT FOR THE AGING AS PART OF THE OLDER AMERICANS ACT PROGRAM, ADMINISTERED BY THE NEW YORK STATE OFFICE FOR THE AGING.

Nina introduced her new intern Eileen to the board. Welcome to SNAP! Nina has instituted new programs for the members to attend, and they all seem to increase interest. Mindy also has quite a few discussion groups for the center. The recent jewelry sale went very well and the fundraising committee consisting of Andrea, Elsie, Kiki, and Nancy Schwarz did a wonderful job of selling. Problems that arise at the center which cause disruption of any kind should immediately be brought to Nina’s attention. Once again, I will remind everyone of the necessity of keeping SNAP clean and problem free. Please consider volunteering, it is so spiritually rewarding. Thank you all.
