PAST PROJECTS
NANTES METROPOLE
Nantes is the European Green
Capital 2013 and is also at the heart
of innovation in digital technology.
The urban community of Nantes Métropole
encompasses the city and many surrounding
municipalities. It ventured into the world of
open data by making its public data available
in the interests of political transparency, and
in order to encourage the development of
innovative services for its inhabitants. Nantes
Métropole turned to Smile to set up its platform
for open public data, which is based on the
open source CMS TYPO3.
One of the very first public authority open
data platforms
CNIL
The CNIL mission is to ensure
that information technology
complies with data privacy
laws.
In addition to 1,400 pages of content,
the website comprises several peripheral
services: a newsletter, automated
glossary and surveys. These are all
developed as reusable extensions of
TYPO3.

OSÉO
Which solution for
a long-term web
strategy?
Oseo’s web implementation strategy, led by
Smile, and which has been ongoing since 2005,
perfectly illustrates the benefits of open source
solutions for a global and sustainable approach
to the company’s management of web
content.
When Oseo was founded in 2005, by the merger
between Anvar and PME bank , the IT and
Communications departments were faced
with a very important decision. Which solution
should they adopt in order to meet both the
immediate and critical communications needs
of a business in the middle of a merger, and
be able to support the group’s longer-term
ambitions, which were essential to their public
service remit? On Smile’s recommendation,
they chose the eZ Publish open source
content management solution. Since then,
Smile has been advising OSEO on the design,
implementation,maintenance and hosting of
the group’s websites; the base platform has the
flexibility to adapt to very varied demands.
#1 – Collaborative intranet
In the context of a merger, a Group intranet is
a major unifying factor. At Oseo, this reference
document is shared on a daily basis by the group’s
3,000 employees and is led by around a hundred
colleagues from across the company.
#2 – Content repository
Oseo distributes hundreds of fact sheets to
businesses, providing them with a service similar to
that offered to individuals by the ‘service-public.fr’
website. The standard open source solution used
by Oseo has facilitated the distribution of these
factsheets via the websites of the 22 French regions
that wanted the service
#3 – Multi-site platform
The base platform can be adapted to suit projects
of many varying types and sizes.
It has therefore been able to meet the needs of
several successful projects, such as:
An extranet for banking partners, sharing
content with the websites and intranet, is
particularly critical in terms of security.
A regional innovation portal, which has
been derived from the information site for
businesses thanks to the solution’s capability for
standardisation.
A regional business transfer portal, which is
likewise a variation available as a white label for
the regional sites, where the flexibiility of open
source has facilitated links to several different
sources of advertisements in France.
9
EIFFAGE
4th largest European group
in the concessions and
public works sector and
has 70,000 employees.
The Jahia open source CMS was
chosen as the common base
platform for all the company’s
websites and to create new sites
easily from pre-defined models
that have customisable elements
such as graphics, flash banners,
site-specific settings, tree structure
and content.
Migration of existing
‘corporate’ websites and
sites ‘under construction’.

LILLE CITY COUNCIL
With a population of over
230,000, Lille is the largest city in
northern France.
Smile overhauled the mairie-lille.fr
website in Jahia 6. It is the city council’s
official website, containing local news
as well as information about community
engagement, education, sport and
administrative processes. The site is
available in three languages (French,
English and Dutch) and further mini sites
will be added over the coming months.
Smile also undertakes Internet
projects for the urban community of
Lille Métropole.
ACTION CONTRE
LA FAIM
An international NGO with
a focus on ending world
hunger.
ACF, under the guidance of Smile,
chose Drupal as the open source
CMS it needed in order to adopt a
new website with a strong focus on
communications. This new version is
particularly well-suited to integration
with social networking sites.
A recruitment site that is
already handling over 250,000
applications.
11
CARREFOUR
JARDIN
The leading retailer of garden
furniture and outdoor products
in France is a subsidiary of the
French retail giant Carrefour,
which is itself the leading mass
retailer in Europe.
Smile created Carrefour Jardin’s
promotional website in Drupal 7.
Full of information and a real sales tool,
the site includes classification features,
video playback and a glossary.
A website created in just two
months!
MEDITEL
The leading private
telecommunications
operator in Morocco.
When it came to overhauling the
Méditel website, the eZ Publish CMS
was chosen for its flexibility and for its
ability to satisfy the client’s security
requirements. The aim of the site is
to optimise the way that Méditel
presents its services to internet users.
Specific development in
Symfony and creation of the
mobile version.
12
BOUYGUES TELECOM
1.5 million businesses and professionals rely upon
the telecommunications company Bouygues
Telecom, which is part of the Bouygues Group.
Facilitating the
presentation of the
Group’s services for
professionals.
Bouygues Telecom Entreprises has launched a
new version of its website based on the Drupal
open source content management system.
“The new platform was designed purely to
facilitate the presentation of the Group’s
services for professionals”, says Thierry
Carpentier, Project Manager at Bouygues
Telecom Entreprises. “It is also equipped with
features to help attract more visitors, to make
the catalogue more visible and to help convert
prospects into clients more easily.”
The list of innovations is long. At its head is a
new tool for generating quotes online, “which is
supported by a decision engine”: you provide
information about your communications and
regular travel habits... and “Bouygues Telecom
advises you” of the most suitable offer for you. A
fact sheet and quote support this.
#1 – Why Drupal?
“Preliminary research, conducted by Smile – with
whom we had already worked to implement an
internal system using eZ Publish – revealed a number
of advantages to using Drupal”, explains Thierry
Carpentier. According to him, key among these
were the speed and flexibility of this CMS, which
is developed in PHP. Another top feature was the
“option to add on various modules that fulfilled the
expectations of the marketing department” (forums,
photo galleries, surveys, newsletters, messaging, chat
and interfaces for online payment). For example, the
Ubercart module was used for online quotations.
#2 – Support from the sofware vendor
“When we started work on this project, we decided
to sign a support agreement with Acquia, using
Smile as an intermediary”, says the project manager.
As well as covering updates and providing a swift
response to any issues, the support agreement
ensures that any new modules chosen “are all
tested and certified” by Drupal’s service company.
“Certified modules pose no risk to security and we
know that we can trust them.”
After overhauling the website showcasing their
business offer, Bouygues Telecom is already planning
some new features based on “the Drupal platform”.
The vast community that has grown up around
this open source CMS is sure to provide them with
inspiration.
13
BAYARD PRESSE
This major French
publishing house
produces 150 magazines
for three markets adolescents, religion and
seniors.
Bayard decided to standardise
all the websites for its various
magazines on the same single
platform, based on the open
source tool eZ Publish. The
group’s IT department wanted
a very open solution that could
interface with all of Bayard’s
existing IT infrastructure and,
in particular, with their email
management and CRM
solutions.
Smile Hosting also provides
the hosting.

to customising the content according to
the audience: 14-24 year-olds, parents,
seniors or teachers.
Option to share information on social
networking sites.
17
CHÈQUE
DÉJEUNER
A company that produces
pre-paid vouchers and gift cards,
including the Cadhoc gift card.
The project to overhaul the website where
Cadhoc vouchers are ordered consisted of
regaining control of the old application in
order to make some necessary corrections to
it and add developments. This was done by
relying on open source frameworks such as
Struts, Hibernate and Spring.
A technical audit led to a large
number of our recommendations being
implemented.
BELAMBRA
The number 1 vacation club
in France
Belambra is the number 1 vacation club
destination in France and offers numerous
vacation packages in more than 50 holiday
residences across the country. The group
management reported that their new site
allowed an increase in sales of more than
20%. Smile redesigned the site using the
CMS software Jahia and custom JAVA
developments, along with Esigate, a content
aggregation solution.
Following the successful development
phase of the project, the group has
retained Smile for the site maintenance.

FRANCE AGRIMER
French agricultural and
seafood producer.
This Smile-led project has enabled managers
at FranceAgriMer, and the company’s end
users (farmers), to input data directly into a new
application, thereby fully computerising the forms
for providing information on cereal stocks. As
there was no existing software package that met
all the client’s needs, the project was developed
especially for them and was based on three
open source frameworks: Spring, Struts 2 and
Hibernate.
Java was the language used to meet
maintenance and scalability requirements.
HEC
Goal Project: online job
applications for HEC.
From the outset, Smile suggested a specific
development for HEC in order to best meet
their requirements. As the business section of
the application forms was technically very
specialised, Smile opted for tried and tested
technology: JEE, Spring, Struts, Hibernate,
MySQL and jQuery were the solutions chosen,
and they were integrated with the open source
CMS, eZ Publish.
Thanks to the content aggregator,
Esigate, it all looks like one website to
users.
19
THE EBOOK ALTERNATIVE
The first open source solution for
the distribution of digital books.
TEA is the first full and open source solution
for the distribution of digital books. This
platform for managing digital books
was created by Smile and developed in
Symfony. Its purpose is to offer public APIs to
facilitate community developments around
eBooks.
Smile has also created an
eCommerce platform in Magento for
this project.
ALFA
French agency combatting
insurance fraud.
ALFA entrusted Smile with the task of revamping
several obsolete business applications: phone
book, management of travel orders, specialised
messaging. The functions that ALFA wanted
were more demanding than those covered by
standard software packages, so Smile undertook
a special development that was adapted to
the needs of the project. Smile chose tried
and tested technology for the business web
application in order to limit risk. The applications
chosen were JEE, Spring, Struts, Hibernate,
MySQL and jQuery.
In order to ensure secure authentication,
SSL certificates were used for each user.

PAST PROJECTS
DARJEELING
Leading French-based lingerie
business world-wide created in
1995 by the Chantelle group.
Darjeeling.fr was designed to strengthen links
between customers and the company’s 130
stores, and to offer customers an additional

solutions for managing content and invoices,
and for sending out newsletters.
A fully customisable promotion
management system
AG2R LA MONDIALE
The first French insurance company
to launch a mutual fund available
exclusively online.
AG2R LA MONDIALE hired Smile to develop its
new online sales portal based on Jahia. In order to
optimise the developments, Smile turned to another
open source tool: ESIgate, a content aggregator
created by Smile and now supported by a large
open source community. It is the ideal solution to
bridge the gap between Jahia, Java applications
and the client’s other solutions!

WESCO
A leader in the field of
educational materials.
Wesco turned to Smile for
guidance with the overhaul of its
eCommerce platform, with a view
to accelerating the company’s
development in the B2C market
and on an international scale. After
conducting some analysis based
around business support in IT in order
to ascertain Wesco’s functional and
technical needs, Smile managed
the migration of the company’s
eight existing websites, developed
a Magento eCommerce platform
and used asynchronous data flows
to handle the interface between
the ERP system and the PIM. Today,
the open source search server SolR
drives a catalogue of over 30,000
products, which are available to
more than 200,000 customers.
Smile Hosting will take care of

23
LE BON MARCHÉ
Le Bon Marché opened in 1838 and was
the first department store in France.
Smile was entrusted with a major project that included
two eCommerce sites developed in Magento: Le Bon
Marché and La Grande Epicerie (a gourmet food
subsidiary of the department store), which have the
special feature of sharing a shopping cart. Additional
elements of the project were an editorial section called
Le Magazine, covering fashion news and news about
the stores, which was developed using the Drupal open
source CMS and, lastly, an area for wedding lists and
new baby gift lists. The user should have the same quality
of experience online as in the department store, all
under the same luxury branding.
Product classification including several search
criteria.
GIBERT JOSEPH
Famous bookseller originally from
the Saint-Germain district of Paris.
Based on the open source platform
Magento, GibertJoseph.com sells cultural
and educational products. A million products
will eventually be on sale. SolR has once
again been used for facetted search and
browsing. Smile has developed specialised
expertise in this tool and was the first to
integrate it into large-scale projects.
A unique online service for purchasing
books, CDs and DVDs.
24
KRYS

throughout the world.
Developed on the Magento open
source platform, the Krys eCommerce
site has a catalogue of over 2,000
simple products and brings together
groups of configurable products, special

ANWB
The Royal Dutch Touring Club ANWB is one of the Top 25
eCommerce companies in The Netherlands.
After an intensive Agile project where tight deadlines were successfully reached,
ANWB’s new eCommerce platform went live in September 2012. The first year was
above expectations and ANWB climbed in the Twinkle Top 100 every year! 2012:
#31, 2013: #29, 2014: #25, 2015: #22

category Publieksprijzen XL (Public Award Enterprise companies)
NESTLÉ SHOP
Nestlé Shop online sells Nestlé
food products.
There were clear constraints imposed
on this project: it had to be supported
by the Magento open source platform,
it had to integrate and connect the
site with all of Nestlé’s production tools,
stock management tools and logistics
and payment tools; all this had to
be delivered by the end of the year.
Challenge completed with flying colours!
A customised service aimed at
businesses.

VF CORPORATION
Founded in 1899, VF Corporation is an
American group of around thirty brands, and
specialises in clothing, footwear and bags.
Implementing a global
eCommerce strategy.
For three years, Smile has been managing
the eCommerce roll-out of five of the group’s
flagship brands: The North Face, Vans,
Eastpak and 7 For All Mankind.
#1 - From audit to maintenance…
Smile’s venture with VF Europe began with
an audit of the eCommerce platform for The
North Face’s website, based on Magento.
The audit revealed technical problems
with the performance and design, so VF
decided to put Smile in charge of corrective
and developmental maintenance of the
eCommerce sites for The North Face, Kippling
and 7 For All Mankind.
#2 - Via the creation of three new
sites...
While maintenance on the application was
underway, VF launched another major project
with Smile –the creation of three new websites for
The North Face, Eastpak and Vans.
The three new e-stores were created using
Magento and have kept a strong marketing
dimension with links to several social media
campaigns as well as a strong international
flavour thanks to multilingual back-office
management and availability in over a dozen
countries.
In fact, one of the fundamental points of this
project was the need to observe the restrictions
on performance for these flagship brands. The
platform has to support an intense volume of
traffic as well as very rapid growth in revenues
generated by online sales: 80%+ for The North
Face, for example! At the same time, a strong
commitment has been made to quality of
service – software issues dealt with in 30 minutes,
a 24/7 availability commitment.
#3 – And successful migration!
Lastly, Smile conducted the migration of the
Kippling and 7 For All Mankind websites from
Magento version 1.7 to version 1.10, mainly in
order to unite the modifications made across
all the websites. Today, all five VF sites are
maintained by Smile and there are several
upcoming projects planned!
27
MS MODE
A new online shop
for MS Mode
MS Mode, an international fashion retailer, is a
fast growing company (400+ stores) which has
expanded over the years throughout Europe.
Smile rebuilt and improved the existing platform in
Magento.
In addition to the development of the eCommerce
platform with a dedicated mobile website, Smile
is also responsible for the Managed Hosting. The
experience of Smile with building high available
and scalable infrastructure for mission-critical web
and eCommerce applications is a true added
value for the overall performance of the platform.
Click & Collect: Extensive delivery options by
DPD en DHL integration.
SOLARIS
Chain of sunglasses shops, with
over 50 branches in France.
Solaris wanted to set up a B2B extranet for
the group’s shops in order to improve the
distribution of information, the autonomy
of partners and quality of service. Smile
recommended RBS Change as a solution,
in order to deliver the key elements of the
project effectively: B2B and rich content
management.
A project that is 100% Smile: ergonomic
design, graphics, technical integration
and hosting.
28
E-business
HISTOIRE D’OR
A key player in the jewellery market.
With more than 300 stores across Europe, Histoire
d’Or has now chosen to move into online sales.
Smile teams recommended and integrated the
open-source e-commerce solution RBS Change.
This solution was selected for its functional depth,
its technical quality and its ergonomics and
user-friendliness.
More than 4,000 items are sold on the
merchant’s website.
DISTRICENTER
Clothing and shoe discounter.
The Districenter network is well represented
by nearly 150 stores, and its latest aim is
to make its new e-commerce site its #1
shop. Magento CE was selected as the
base for this platform. Conceived as a
shop in its own right, it had to interface with
Cylande’s Storeland cash management
system. Smile’s Digital agency also
developed the ergonomics, graphics and
an SEO support tool.
Districenter confirmed its satisfaction
with the project by entrusting Smile with
its platform’s TPM.
29
CULTURA
Selling cultural and
creative leisure products.
Smile has completely overhauled Cultura’s
e-commerce platform using Magento and
has linked it to its new Drupal community
platform. The challenge lay in preserving
the high performance of the site, which
has several million products available
for purchase. This optimisation was
implemented thanks to integration of a
MongoDB database.
A product recommendation module
was added to the site using the
Prediggo solution.
DOCTIPHARMA
The largest choice of pharmaceutical and
parapharmaceutical products.
Doctissimo – a subsidiary of Lagardère Active –
decided to set up an e-commerce site, Doctipharma.fr,
aiming to connect pharmacies with consumers. This
project was implemented on a Symfony 2 PHP base,
which allowed a group of standardised solutions to be
built: Bolt for the CMS, Solr namely for searchandising
and promotions management, product database
management via Akeneo PIM, integration of deferred
payments via SIPS, and so on.
Smile fulfilled the front end of the solution in
collaboration with Sensio Labs, which publishes
Symfony.

ALLIANZ
The world’s third largest

When AGF Asset Management became
Allianz Global Investors France, the challenge
in redesigning the website was to create
a completely new site, which had to be
easily accessible, scalable and suitable for
the company’s different target audiences:
individuals, distributors, businesses & corporate

the open source solution TYPO3 to fulfil its
technical requirements, supported by a
specific PHP development.

THE CITY OF NIORT
Niort is the French capital of mutual
insurance and bank companies. It is in
the region of Poitou-Charente and has a
population of 59,000 people.
Improving the appeal and usability of the intranet
for the city of Niort were key steps towards making
the intranet, based on Liferay, a central point of
access. Several advanced collaborative features
and project area management functions (blog,
wiki, forum, document creation and chat) have
been integrated into the site, as well as a set of
remote procedures that have been made paperless
thanks to the open source BPM tool Bonita and an
advanced search engine with Apache Solr.

THE FRENCH MINISTRY FOR
CULTURE AND COMMUNICATIONS
The French Ministry for Culture and
Communications aims to make major
arts works, and especially the French arts,
accessible to all.
A “Sémaphore”
as intranet.
Smile carried out the redesign of the Ministry
for Culture’s intranet, “Sémaphore” using
the SCRUM method. Created using the
enterprise edition of the Liferay open source
solution, the ministry’s intranet is aimed at
all its officials (in central administration,
in decentralised services, in services with
national jurisdiction and in public bodies
under administrative guidance from the
ministry), i.e. more than 30,000 users!
Benefits of the intranet:
An area for internal communications and
information (news, projects, organisation,
practical information)
A monitoring tool, as chosen by the ministry’s
research assistants
A working and sharing tool that brings
together reference documents and working
documents (reports, guides, procedures) that
are useful in various departments within the
ministry.
The participative and collaborative scope of the
site is being developed gradually: collaborative
work spaces, customisation of an individual user’s
space by subscribing to content and selecting
favourite sites and applications.
This was a real challenge for Smile because the
intranet was created using the Agile SCRUM
framework, with short development cycles
(15-day sprints for this project). This has allowed
a great degree of adaptability to the needs of
the ministry. Constant communications and the
development of a relationship based on trust
have ensured the project’s success.

OFFICE OF THE FRENCH PRIME MINISTER
The French Commission on Access to
Administrative Documents (CADA) is an
independent administrative authority
with links to the offices of the French
Prime Minister, and which is responsible
for monitoring the freedom of access to
administrative documents.
The new application includes files from the old
tool and uses the open source tool Nuxeo for
all file processing. This processing comprises
various functions such as management and
planning of sessions, which allows CADA to
define and log its position on files about access
to administrative documents.
Promoting Access
to Administrative
Documents.
At present, all requests captured via the online
data entry form are automatically sent by email
and assimilated into the new application for
review.
The document management tool that
CADA had been using no longer met the
organisation’s functional needs. CADA, in
collaboration with the Prime Minister’s office
IT department, entrusted Smile to overhaul
this application with a view to making the
Commission’s services more efficient.
38
The application allows people reviewing the
files to access all the documents and reference
documents themselves via secure access even
when they are not connected to the Matignon
network.
Smile joined the project in the design phase
to analyse, optimise, and create a model for
CADA’s work streams. In fact, Nuxeo provides
more than just an information library - it
facilitates collaborative work and ensures the
traceability of decisions and how they are
applied.

can be in electronic format and which are
sent by email. Smile recommended that
the EDM solution, Alfresco, be put in place
in combination with a MOM (Message
Oriented Middleware) for the centralisation
of data.
Smile Système guarantees a recovery
time of only a few hours.
CG LOIRE-ATLANTIQUE
The General Council is the

DECITRE
A community site that is unique in France!
The ‘Entrée Livre’ website has grown out of a desire to provide
readers with a special place for sharing, and to take advantage
of the opportunities the internet provides to communicate a
passion for books and to promote reading in an inclusive way.
The community website was developed using the Symfony open
source framework, which lends itself to tailored developments.
This was a technical challenge, as the website needed a
tailored adjustment, which was possible thanks to Symfony and
the integration of the open source search engine SolR. A second
challenge was the need to adhere to a very tight schedule,
which involved almost a year of constant work.
Having created a profile, the users can indicate the books they
have read, share their comments and join book groups. This
automatically feeds into their library and they can then see the
opinions of other members, readers or professionals.
Special, powerful algorithms improve search capacity on
the site.

My Major Company is a
fan-funded music label.
It is based on a very simple
principle: musicians who are
looking for financing can publish
part (or all) of their work on their
personal space and visitors can
help fund their projects. In many
cases, the artists’ sponsors expect
eventual financial returns against
their investment.
My Major Company called on Smile
to revamp its website, which is
based on the Symfony open source
framework.

FAIVELEY
A shared business
intelligence portal for
the Faiveley group.
Faiveley Transport is a manufacturer
specialising in railway rolling stock and all
rolling stock components. The company is
listed on the Paris stock exchange and is part
of the CAC Small 90.
#1 - Issue: create a shared business
intelligence portal
Faiveley’s existing BI solution comprised local,
non-standardised reports at both a functional
and technical level. The aim of the project
was therefore to merge these platforms and
solve reporting issues for every department finance, commercial, manufacturing, project
management and quality.
The BI project is combined with the new ERP
system set up by Faiveley. As and when the
various Faiveley factories are migrated into
this ERP system, they will also be integrated
into the business intelligence platform
and, eventually, all the group’s sites will be
included.
The open source business intelligence suite
proposed by Smile was structured around four
tools: MySQL, Talend Integration Suite, Jasper
BI Suite and Palo BI Suite.
46
#2 - What were the key features to
be put in place?
The Talend Integration Suite catered for the
ETL section of the project. Data is extracted
by Faiveley’s Lawson M3 ERP system and is
then periodically converted and loaded it
into a MySQL data warehouse, the model for
which was developed by Smile. Talend can
also manage several million records per day
and load them into the data warehouse.
The ease with which the enterprise version
of Talend can be used and administrated
means that it is now the main tool for data
manipulation at Faiveley.
Either JasperBI Suite or PaloBI is used to
generate reports, which are created directly
in Excel.
Reports generated in Jasper are static reports
or reports in a list format with a variety of
layouts. Reports generated in Palo have a
design that is more suited to analysis and
data manipulation using OLAP.
Approximately hundred key indicators can be
analysed thanks to these four tools.
#3 - The challenges of the project
There was an impressive range of reporting
functions to be implemented. The subjects
tackled were numerous and complex,
requiring the team of Smile consultants to be
highly adaptable.
#4 - Client benefits
The business intelligence platform is a
management tool at macro level (financial,
P&L) and micro level (processes, stock trends,
raw material usage, etc.). It allows everyone
to track their activity in the best way possible
and to optimise their decision making.

CARREFOUR
French group, the no. 1 European mass
retailer
Smile set up Palo Web for the IT security
department at Carrefour Group. It is an
application for data collection, assessment with
validation and retrieval of input in the form of
complex graphics. Smile recommended using
Palo Web so that enquiries were available in any
country, and also for the quality of its graphics
and charts. The application is integrated with the
intranet with TYPO3.
Web services are used to extract ETL jobs
and synchronise project cubes.
SKYROCK
A private French music radio station.
Skyrock wanted to be able to analyse statistics
relating to its 30 million blogs, accounts and
connections. With this in mind, Smile recommended
two 100% open source solutions - Pentaho BI Suite
in combination with the reporting solution, BIRT. BIRT
complements and completes the solutions provided
by Pentaho and it can handle the pressure of heavy
work loads.
It can also measure the impact of advertising
campaigns and assess needs in terms of server
performance
Reporting with planned dispatch by email.

ESPACE LOGGIA
Manufacturer of custom-built furniture and
mezzanines.
Espace Loggia wanted to set up an ERP system for its
points of sale, factory management and warehouses.
The Odoo solution was selected for this project and is
now used to manage the whole of the company’s sales
and manufacturing chain: commercial management,
point of sale, product design, production management,
logistics and cost accounting.
A configuration model developed for Espace
Loggia has been transferred to the open source
community.
CASDEN
Subsidiary of the French bank,
Banque Populaire.
Casden chose Smile and Odoo to
revamp its comprehensive system for
Purchasing, Budget and Fixed Asset
Management. A notable feature of the
system is its ability to produce a budget
in a decentralised manner, with version
management so that the budget can
be revised during the financial year.
The Odoo complete web
interface is very practical for
remote availability.

SOCIÉTÉ GÉNÉRALE
The SGCIB is active in investment
banking, financing and markets.
Smile has used the open source tool iReport by
Jaspersoft to develop several financial reports for the
SGCIP (Société Générale Corporate & Investment
Banking), which are aimed at investment funds. The
SGCIB can now supply its clients with clearer and
more attractive reports, which represent a significant
improvement to its commercial offering. Particular
care was taken with the general rendering of the
reports, as well as with their scalability.
The complexity of the environment requires
frequent Java developments.
VINCI
Global construction group
opperating in around a
hundred countries.
Vinci used Smile and a combination
of Talend and Jaspersoft to develop
interfaces for collecting data files
originating from companies within
the group and then integrating them
into the holding company’s target
application.
The challenge was to create a
generic development that could
be easily adapted to projects.
49
INRA
A French public research institute dedicated
to scientific studies related to agricultural
issues.
The goal of the project was to roll-out an application to
monitor the activity of all the teams in the IT department
(around 200 people) in order to optimise the use of
resources for both regular activities and projects. Golden
rule for the project: ease of use! Smile developed
specific modules for project monitoring and project
management, based on the Odoo open source
framework and offering users the following: a matrix for
monitoring activity, a project management interface,
customised reports and email alerts.
A revised interface to fit the design guidelines of
INRA’s IT department.e la DSI INRA.
V’LILLE
The self-service bicycle hire system
in the French city of Lille.
The city of Lille used Odoo and Smile
to roll out its ‘V’Lille’ service. Commercial
management of subscriptions and
payments, a unified customer system, service
operations and equipment maintenance
are all managed entirely with Odoo. Effia

VEOLIA TRANSPORT
Leading private transport operator
Car sharing chooses
Odoo.
Since 2008, the Veolia Transport group
has been using the open source software
package Odoo to manage its car sharing
activities, and has trusted Smile to provide
the platform.
New car sharing services are increasing in
towns across Europe and have one thing in
common - they respond to environmental
and economic issues by helping to reduce
the number of cars on the roads, and
provide new electric or combustionpowered
vehicles for people to ‘share’. A
second shared feature they have is that
they use the Odoo software package to
manage their activity.
#1 – An open and scalable system
Why? Odoo has several advantages
for this type of service. Firstly, Odoo is a
management software package that can also
be used as a framework for development. This
means that new features and functions can be
developed quickly. In addition, it also has
multilingualand multi-currency capabilities and is
a solution that is perfectly suited to local needs.
Finally, this software package can interface with
client extranets to make bookings and check
bills online. The compatibility of the Odoo
software package is crucial to car-sharing. In
fact, the system must be able to interface with
several third-party systems (software packages
or equipment) in order to gather all the data
required for invoicing.
For example, each car in a car-share pool is
fitted with a box that records kilometres travelled,
downtime, etc. The project’s web services must
be able to trace back this data to Odoo.
#2 – Fully
automated
invoicing
Managing invoicing
was one of the key issues in this project, with the
use of complex tariff tables similar to those used
in the telecoms sector, fully customisable to allow
adaptive management of the offer and stock.
Actual usage information is retrieved from the
boxes on board vehicles and used to calculate
bills depending on the type of subscription
involved. This system ultimately allows the
management of a huge number of bills, without
the need for human input.
#3 – A self-monitoring system
Odoo can send alerts by text message, email
or to the vehicle’s dashboard depending on the
type of issues detected, such as a low battery,
the customer having taken a vehicle other than
the one they had reserve d, using the vehicle for
longer than anticipated, outstanding debt, etc.
This system allows managers to be very reactive
and to anticipate any problems with usage.
On the road, with Odoo! Management
processes are now embedded in and are just
waiting to be rolled out to new car-sharing
services.

VIAPRESSE
An international actor in the sale of
printed and online digital press.
With over 1200 press titles, Viapresse chose Smile,
the Odoo solution (formerly Odoo) and Magento
to revamp and unify its new ERP and e-commerce
platforms. The goal: to centralise all the group’s
information and to reorganise the catalogue whilst
creating a very high-performance e-commerce
site.
An end-to-end project including functional
specifications, development, integration and
user training.
LE BON COIN
The largest site for
classified adverts in France.
Leboncoin.fr chose Smile to implement a
business intelligence suite to monitor its key
business indicators and improve its knowledge
of its customer base. Smile helped Le Bon Coin
to collect information from various systems
such as websites, mobile applications, and its
CRM solution. The data was then archived in a
single central database, providing users with a
powerful analytical tool based on the Pentaho
Business Analytics platform.
