Holiday Edition
As our students and staff counted down those last few days before
Christmas Break, CMS students were busy participating in several
events. We are sharing those events with you in our Holiday Edition of CMS newsletter. All of us
at CMS wish all of you a very
Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year!
2015 YEARBOOK
Time is running out for yearbook
and ad sales. We have only six
spots left for ads! Order envelopes
will be sent home in January with
all students who have not yet purchased a yearbook.

Meet Our Staff
Mrs. Felicia Cloudy, the CMS assistant principal, has
been in education for 23 years, with 18 years as a
teacher. She attended college at the Stephen F. Austin
State University. Her favorite thing about working with
CMS students is that she helps students reach their
potential and exceed expectations. Also, she strives to
prepare them for their future. She also said that she
married a great man for 30 years. She has four sons
and one grandson. Her eldest, DeNorris, is in the army, the youngest, Cameron, works at Port-a-Cool, and
Alex and Marlin Jr are coaches. Her favorite quote is:
"You are free to choose but you are not free from the
consequences of your choose." A word for her to describe CMS is EMPOWERING.
Mr. Randy Hagler has been a teacher for 13 years.
He has been a school board member Shelbyville ISD
for 6 years. He attended 2 colleges including SFASU
and Panola College. His favorite thing about working
with the students at CMS is inspiring the students to
succeed. He has been married to his wife, Tammy
for 28 years. They have two daughters. Ashley Parker is married to Dustin and Alysse Baldridge is married to Brandley. Mr. Hagler is proud of his 5 grandchildren, Jaxon Parker, Dylan Parker, Shon Parker,
Lane Parker, and Brantley Baldridge. Randy’s favorite quote is Mark 9:23- …”all things are possible to
him who believeth.” The one word he thinks to describe CMS is DIVERSE.

READING NIGHT
Our first Reading Night was held on December 2.
Students and parents were invited to classrooms
to participate in various activities promoting literacy. Parents were able to see and actively participate in activities their child experiences in school.
The Book Fair was a popular spot as guests
browsed and purchased books and other items.
Renee Verdine found a
cozy reading
corner in
Mrs.
Belrose’s
seventh
grade classroom during
reading
night.
Mother and

Reading Night.
KAHOOT!
CMS Assistant
Principal, Felicia
Cloudy, tries her
luck at the game
of Kahoot! Judging from her score

have had a pretty
successful game.
Teachers say their
students enjoy
playing this web
based game in the
classroom as a
fun way to review
material previously taught in the
classroom.
This family is enjoying a fun game
of Scrabble.
Reading based
activities were
plentiful during
CMS Reading

The Scavenger
Hunt was a
popular activity
with students
collecting
phrases around
the campus to
put in correct

Thinking Outside the Box In Sixth Grade Science
Sixth Grade Science
Sixth grade science teachers, Mary
Hockenberry and Shane Corbell have
been discussing natural resources
and how the wasteful or unnecessary
use of natural resources can limit
availability for other purposes. The
lessons centered on conservation
plan and the 3R’s—Reduce, Reuse,
Recycle.
Students were challenged to design
an ornament from something that
has been previously used and would
have ended up as trash.
Left, a penguin is created from a
painted light
bulb. Right,
wooden
spoons are
used to make
a Santa
Claus. Bottom right,
Styrofoam
balls, feathers, and twigs
make up a
cute Christmas critter.
At left, a
baseball turns
into the head
of a snowman.
Below, toilet tissue rolls cut into
strips and made into swirls. Right,

BETA FOOD DRIVE
JCC COMMUNITY SERVICE
The Center Middle School Beta Club recently held a canned food drive for
"Helping Hands," an Outreach Program
through Shelby County Outreach Ministries. Members of Beta Club helped collect
about 1,500 canned food items to restock
pantries for the holiday season. The students collected, boxed, and loaded the
items that were delivered just in time for
the holidays.
Center Middle School Junior Chamber of
Commerce completed a community service
project by providing Christmas gifts for several children through Grace Manor Foster
Child Agency. JCC members Connor Lovell,
Maddie Russell, and Amanda Hughes are
shown below after their shopping experience at the local Walmart.
JCC BREAKFAST WITH SANTA
JCC students volunteered to help at the annual
‘Breakfast With Santa’ on December 6. Dressed
in elf hats, the volunteers did whatever they needed to do to help make the event a success. Afterward, the students said it was an enjoyable experience. They loved seeing the children have fun
and visit with Santa.
