Kids & Family
CHILDCARE
Play Center & O-Zone ages 3 months-12 years: Free childcare
services are available for facility members, while working out
in the facility. It is designed to serve ages three months
through twelve years. There is a two hour per day, eight
hours per week limit for all children. The Play Center &
O-Zone reserve the right to limit the number of children, at
any time for safety reasons. Kids must have a Facility
Membership to visit the Play Center & O-Zone. We do
require reservations 24 hours prior to drop-off time for
children ages 3-6 months.

Parents' Night Out ages 1-12: Drop off your children at the
YMCA for a fun and adventurous night! You can relax with a
"Parents' Night Out" and go to dinner and a movie, knowing
your children are safe enjoying a fun filled evening. Activities
may include: swimming/dinner (ages 4+) basketball & gym,
games, movies, crafts, playground time, etc. Registration
closes at 8:00 pm on the Thursday before the event.

Holiday Camps ages 5-12: Fun for kids when school is out.
Enjoy swimming, games, sports and more. Choose from
regular day camp or travel camp where the kids will take
field trips to fun places around the city. Camp runs 9 am 4 pm with extended care offered free of charge. Early drop
off starts at 7 am, and late pick up runs until 6:30 pm.

HAPPY Club is founded on the belief that
people with mental disabilities can, with
proper instruction and encouragement, learn,
enjoy, and benefit from participation in
structured social activities. The purpose of
the HAPPY club is to provide mentally
challenged teens and adults the opportunity
for further development of social and
community skills. The HAPPY club meets
twice monthly, usually on Saturdays, to attend activities such as: professional
sporting events, concerts, plays, movies,
theme parks, camping, fishing, swimming, ice
skating, trips to the beach, and much more.

Early Learning Readiness (ELR) for Hispanic
partnership
with four other YMCAs, and their host
centers, this program provides fun and
engaged learning activities to children and
their caregivers. Activities are ageappropriate to prepare children for school
readiness.

Our After School Program provides a safe, fun and enriching
environment for your child to spend their after-school hours.
Children will participate in arts & crafts, sports, team
building, dramatic play, enrichment, character building and
free choice activities. In addition, your child will receive time
for assistance with their homework and an afternoon snack.
Staff are chosen for their education, experience and abilities
with children. Our staff reflect, demonstrate and teach the
YMCA’s Character Development traits of caring, honesty,
respect, & responsibility. We are licensed by Bright From The
Start and maintain a 1:15 staff to child ratio.
To register you will need to complete a child history
enrollment form and pay a program or facility membership
fee, as well as 1st month’s tuition. An updated immunization
form will also be required for each child. Children may only
enter this program on a Monday. All registration and
payment information must be completed by 10:00 am
Monday morning to begin the program.

Swim Lessons
PARENT/CHILD CLASSES
ages 6-36 months with a parent
Children will have fun while becoming more comfortable in
and around the water, while parents learn how to teach their
child aquatic skills and how to be safe. Songs and
developmentally-appropriate games are used to teach basic
movements in the water such as kicking, arm strokes and
blowing bubbles, encourage socialization with other families
with children of the same age. Parents do get in the water
with their children. Swim diapers and plastic pants are
required for children ages 3 & under. 30-minute classes.
Parent/Child ages 6-24 months: Parent-assisted program
designed to increase comfort in the water through games,
songs and water movements. More Info + Register
Pike with Parent ages 24-36 months: Students will learn
paddling, kicking on front & back, jumping in & returning to
side, bubble blowing, with aid of a support. Parent-assisted.

PRESCHOOL CLASSES ages 3-5
Preschoolers learn the basic skills that are building blocks of
swimming, as well as pool and boating safety, and the use of
personal floatation devices. To encourage skill development,
this 30-minute class is taught by a trained instructor with a
1:6 instructor to child ratio. Classes are progressive.
Pike (beginner): Children must be comfortable without a
parent. We teach safe pool behavior, kicking skills, putting
face in the water and bubble blowing. Children will learn to be
independent with and without a swim belt.

The purpose of YMCA swim lessons is
to develop competency in swimming, as
well as confidence and endurance. Each
class has five components: Personal
Safety, Personal Growth, Stroke
Development, Water Sports and
Games, and Rescue. Each class
also incorporates character
values such as caring, honesty,
respect, and responsibility. A
variety of class times and
types are available
throughout the year to
meet your family’s needs
including morning,
afternoon, evening and
weekend options.
Eel (intermediate): Children should be able
to put face in water, float on front & back
with assistance, and swim 5 feet without a
floatation device. Children will learn arm
movements with an integrated kick on front,
back and side; float independently on front &
back for 20 seconds; bobbing, jumping in and
returning to wall independently; and
swimming 15 feet with breaths and without

Ray (advanced intermediate): The Ray level
improves skills and endurance. Children must
be able to swim 15 feet without assistance,
glide, float and jump in water unassisted.
Children will learn to front crawl, elementary
backstroke, tread water and swim 20 feet.

Starfish (advanced): Starfish is for children
who can tread water, swim 20 feet using a
modified crawl stroke and swim on back.
Children will learn kneeling and sitting dives,
water and boat safety, breaststroke, and
front crawl with rotary breathing for a
distance of 40 feet without assistance by the

YOUTH CLASSES ages 6-13
These lessons are 45-minutes and are taught by a trained
instructor with a 1:8 instructor to child ratio. Classes are
progressive and cover all the strokes, diving fundamentals
and water safety skills.

Polliwog (beginner): No skills are required. By the end of
this level, students will learn front & back float; front, back
and side paddle stroke with assistance for 25 yards; and
jump in and return to side without assistance.

Guppy (advanced beginner): Children must be able to go
under water, float and paddle 25 yards with assistance. In
this level, children will learn to tread water; swim 25 yards
front & back with breathing and without assistance; learn
breaststroke and sidestroke; jump into deep end and kneeling
dives. Students can swim independently by the end of this

Minnow (intermediate): Children must be able to swim 25
yards front and back crawl, jump in deep end and tread water.
Children will continue to refine the basic stroke skills from
previous classes and learn advanced personal safety and
rescue skills. Students are able to swim freestyle, backstroke
and breaststroke independently for 25 yards by the end of

Fish (advanced intermediate): Children must be able to swim
freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke independently for 25
yards. Children will build endurance, refine breaststroke,
sidestroke, open turns, survival float, water safety, standing
dives and introduction to butterfly. Students are able to swim
50 yards freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke with open

Flying Fish/Shark (advanced): Children must be able to
swim 50 yards freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke with
open turns. This level will emphasize endurance swimming
and techniques that focus on the competitive strokes:
butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. Students
are able to swim 100 yards in all four strokes with flip turns
and bilateral breathing and are able to tread water for at

TEEN/ADULT CLASSES ages 13+
Teen/Adult Swim Lessons: No skills
required. Trained instructors will assist all
swimmers and develop a lesson plan that will
meet the swimmers needs based on current

Private/Semi-Private Lessons members only
Private (1:1 ratio) and semi-private
(2:1 ratio) swim lessons are available on a
first come, first served basis. Request private
lessons at the Registration Office & submit a
Private Lesson Request form.

Youth Swim Team ages 4-18: The Ashford Dunwoody Dorsals
Swim Team welcomes all types of swimmers: the beginner
looking to expand on and learn new skills, the intermediate
looking to refine their stroke and build endurance and the
advanced swimmer looking for a competitive team with which
to swim at the next level. Our practices and meets are
designed to be competitive and challenging while keeping the
fun in swimming. Check out the team site at

CPR/AED Classes ages 13+: This course
provides training in adult, child and infant
CPR. To receive certification, participants
must score 80% or better on the written
exam and be able to correctly perform all of
the skills. Participants will be certified to use
an Automatic External Defibrillator, which is
used to restart a stopped or abnormal heart
rhythm. More Info + Register!
Lifeguard Training ages 16+: This training
provides all the necessary skills and
certifications to be employed as a
professional lifeguard in an aquatic facility.
Participants will be required to complete an
endurance swim, attend 36 hours of class
and pool instruction and pass CPR/AED, First
Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and Lifeguard
examinations. Participants must pass all
requirements to receive a YMCA Lifeguard

TEENS

The Teen Center for all teens ages 13-18: Come hang out and
play video games or board games, study/play in our amazing
iMac computer lab or just chill with friends watching TV,
listening to music and more. We also offer tutoring and PSAT,
SAT and ACT prep. Stop by and check out the Teen Center at
the YMCA. Bring your friends and make some new ones!
LEADERSHIP
Leader’s Club 8th-12th graders: Teenagers, dedicated to
serving the YMCA. Discuss and plan upcoming events.
Leaders participate in activities within the Y such as
officiating youth sports, supervising overnights for kids,
team-building and more! Contact Kendra for information
regarding the next open enrollment period.
Summer Leadership Academy ages 14-16:
SLA participants will refine their
communication and decision-making skills
while serving as interns in various
departments of the YMCA. Teens will develop
skills that apply to careers working with
children, as well as basic customer service
principles. The SLA requires at LEAST a four
week commitment, and all prospective
members must go through a rigorous
screening process. Space is limited, as
qualified applicants will be selected on a
first-come, first-served basis. Applications
will be available February 1. For more

Gymnastics

YMCA Gymnastics provides a quality program in a safe,
structured and nurturing environment. The program is
designed to enhance body awareness, balance and
coordination, as well as to build strength and selfconfidence. Gymnastic classes are a great way to
introduce your child to physical fitness and help them
build their self-esteem.
TODDLER & PRESCHOOL

Hand in Hand (coed/walking) ages 6 months-2 years: A parentassisted class for children who have never taken a
structured gymnastics class. It is the child’s first interaction
with Gymnastics in a fun and safe environment. Children will
work on basic gymnastics skills such as balance, coordination
and motor skills as well as working on taking turns and
following directions. This class prepares children for the next
level up, Gym Tots. Classes are once a week for 40 minutes.
Gym Tots (coed) ages 2–3: For children who are ready to do
classes on their own. Gym Tots will have age-appropriate
goals including taking turns, following instructions from a
coach, building balance, flexibility and confidence all while
having fun.
YOUTH
Gym Kids (coed) ages 3–4: Children learn
basic motor skills, hand-eye coordination
and body awareness, as well as spend time
on the vault, bars, beam and floor.
SilverStars (coed) ages 5-12: SilverStars will
teach children forward/backward rolls,
handstands, bridges, cartwheels and
pullovers on the bars. These are basic skills
needed to move up to the next level.
On the Run...Morning FUN! (coed) ages 2-4: Give yourself an
extra morning of freedom and drop the kids off at the Y for a
morning of gymnastics, cooperative games, arts & crafts
and story time! Every week we’ll have a theme to explore.
This is a perfect chance for your kids to have constructive fun
& learn at the same time while you take some much needed
time to relax. Please pack a snack.
Gym & Swim (coed) ages 3-5: Classes
consist of 40 minutes of gymnastics and
a half-hour of pike/eel instruction and free
swim. Classes meet in the gym. Children
should have a bathing suit for the swim
portion of the class. They will have time
to change after the gymnastics portion.

Progressive Gymnastics ages 5-14: Beginner
through intermediate level classes are
designed to improve strength, coordination
and self-motivation. Please call about
placement for GoldStars class. Classes are
one hour and meet once a week. Children
participate in classes alone, but parents must
remain in the building.
GoldStars (coed) ages 7-14: GoldStars will
teach more complex gymnastics skills that
are the foundation for advanced gymnastic
routines. Participants must be approved by
Gymnastics Coordinator.

Tang Soo Do ages 4+: A traditional martial art that develops
mind, body, and spirit and emphasizes personal improvement.
Our Y studio is a satellite school of T.M. KIM Global Tang Soo
Do. Tang Soo Do provides curriculum and promotion testing
from beginning white belts to advanced black belts. Classes
include traditional blocks, kicks, punches, sparring, selfdefense, and forms. All classes taught by fifth degree
certified instructor. Prospective students are encouraged to
visit class & meet instructor. All Seasons: Year-Round
SOCCER

Youth Soccer ages 3-13: Here at the Y, we not only respect
the game of soccer, we live it. Our goal is to provide all
participants a program that strives to develop them to their
fullest potential not only as a soccer player but a person as
well. We focus on offering a quality soccer experience in an
enjoyable atmosphere. U12 & U14 play in the Dunwoody
Metro League with some other local organizations. These
games require a minimal amount of travel (10-15 minutes).

BASEBALL

Youth Baseball ages 3-8 (boys, girls & coed): This recreational
and instructional league builds on skill development and fair
play. Super Swingers, our 3-year-old division, will practice
once a week in a clinic setting. Participants ages 4-8 will
practice once a week and play games on Saturdays. Ages 4-5
will play T-ball and ages 6-8 will participate in Coach Pitch
Baseball. All players will receive a team jersey & team award.

BASKETBALL

Youth Basketball ages 3-14: Our program is
based on skill development, fair play and positive family atmosphere. We have teams for
boys and girls with zero previous playing experience required. Teams have one weeknight
practice and one weekend game (three-yearolds only meet once a week). Our older teams
travel locally to play other Ys and local church
teams in the Metro Dunwoody Basketball
League. All participants will receive a team
uniform and an end of the season award. If
