60’s Beach Party! Come dressed ready for a little “beach blanket bingo” fun. Find your inner “Frankie & Annette”, “Giget & Moondoggie” or “Elvis in Blue Hawaii”. Perhaps we’ll get to see a few members of Eric Von Zipper’s “Ratz & Mice” motorcycle gang, the guys down at Muscle Beach, or Deadhead and the Big Kahuna? Then we’ll “stroll” on down to the “Beach Shake-Shack” for a refreshing drink at the bar and to hear Little Johnny Parrish play his harmonica. We’ll be dancing the night away doing the Mashed Potatoes, Hully Gully and the Wahtusi. Men it’s white pants & Hawaiian Shirts, swim trunks or fitted shorts & short-sleeved shirts, cut off jeans & straw hats or perhaps in leather motorcycle jackets. Ladies it’s bathing suit time, or shorts & stripped tees, summer dresses, moo-moo’s, leather jackets & headscarf’s or pedal pushers, tennis shoes and a crop-top. Everyone grab your surfboard, flip-flops, sunscreen and beach towels. It’s time for a little fun in the sun, twist & shout Mendo style.. SURF’S UP! : Oh, The Places You’ll Go! Dr. Seuss thinks there’s fun to be done! There are points to be scored! There are games to be won! And the magical things you can do… they might make you the winning-est winner of all! Who was your favorite character? Or maybe you have a new wacky creature you’d like to introduce to Dr.Seuss himself! Socks in your hair, a fox in socks, or a cat in a hat, rhymes, riddles, and nonsense, that’s what we’re all about tonight! Jewish (Woodlands Purim Carnival) – Parades, costumes, masks, carnival atmosphere and general merrymaking are the rule of the Purim celebration. At the center of these activities, you find the Purim shpiel, a Yiddish word for skits or plays, usually a comedy or farce with the actors wearing costumes that depict the characters from the story in the Book of Esther. When the name of Haman is read, people stomp their feet, hiss, boo, or shake noisemakers to obliterate his name. There will be feasting, gifts of charity to the poor, and gifts of food (hamantaschen cookies) among friends. It is also unique among Jewish holidays in that adults are encouraged to drink.. a lot! The general topsy-turvy spirit of Purim is ascribed both to the merry celebration of the occasion, and as an allusion to how the decree against the Jews was suddenly overturned, and their standing in the kingdom went from outcast to privileged. Something to joyfully celebrate! Bulgarian (Wedding) – Let us bring good luck to our young couple as they start their life together, with fun teasing and traditions of fortune. But first, we gather with the best woman and best man to find the groom’s soon-to-be bride in her home. We then follow them in merry-making and cheer as the bride and groom finalize their love for each other and contest in games to see who will be dominant and provide for their new family! For the rest of the night we enjoy our traditional meal and dance the night away until the flowers fall from our hair and the bread is broken! THE KING’S GALA: (The Knights Feast & Auction) – Hear ye! Hear ye! All ye Royals, Knights and Nobles… By decree of our Lord and Lady of the Woodlands, all peoples of the Redwoods are invited to attend a gala in honor of the King. In the afternoon, when the clock strikes half after the fifth hour, we shall gather upon the knoll to drink and be merry, admire displayed trinkets & treasures and put quill to vellum in verse & sonnet. I bid you join in the feast and celebration, and perchance win thyself some riches. Finally, we dance the wine away in squares and lines with all of noble and peasant blood. Silent Auction Live Auction Contra Dance CROATIAN (“Prostenje”) – Our little village of Mendocino is having a feast day in celebration of Saint Vitus (Sveti Vid), the patron saint of dance! On this festive occasion, we’ll be gathering in the beautifully decorated village square to socialize with friends & family from all over Croatia, beautifully festooned in their regional costumes. There will be dancing, sampling specialty foods, and shopping the merchant booths for that perfect ribbon, braid or set of beads to decorate your clothing. Bring along a few Kuna (Croatian money) to purchase your Licitar souvenir (highly decorated cookie). It’s time to celebrate and make merry till dawn! -*Camp Marketplace & Student Showcase*We begin Friday’s happy-hour party early, with a fun & frivolous “Bowler Hats, Bow Ties & Feathered Boas” theme.
