The Boathouse offers flexible
studios for a variety of uses;
rehearsals, art exhibitions,
small scale performances,
training, corporate and private
events. It’s a beautiful location
for a fashion or film shoot, or
simply a place to chill out
and relax by the river.
The Boathouse has direct access into the
adjoining Boathouse studios 1 and 2, each
with a sprung dance floor and a capacity of 30
to 200. These spaces are highly adaptable for
you to create your own environment or for the
boathouse team to do it for you.

Boathouse
The Boathouse takes its name from the boat building heritage on the site of the new granary
extension. In 1865 Joseph Honey, a local shipbuilder, took the lease of the buildings previously here.
Honey’s Wharf was developed and boatbuilding has long a long association with this stretch of the
river Roding. It is only a stone`s throw away from the Town Quay with it`s rich fishing heritage and from
Barking Creek`s commercial waterside activity. This vibrant history enhances the atmospheric riverside
location.
The Boathouse Community Interest Company is a non-profit social enterprise with local people at the
helm. It fosters and embraces creative energy and activity for and with the community. Much like the
work of the early artisan boat builders, the studios will be home to new pieces of arts work, which will
herald a new “explorative journey” in East London.
The Boathouse CIC is a new and exciting venture emerging from the heart of the Ice House Quarter,
facilitated by Steve Drury from Rooff as part of their long term CSR strategy.
The Boathouse team will benefit from Rooff`s extensive business expertise combined with the artistic
leadership of Carole Pluckrose, who has been actively involved in the arts in Barking and Dagenham
since 1984.
Eating at the Boathouse
A wide range of cuisine is
