Youth Art Day is a day for youth to come out and experience the many aspects of art. We will have hands‐on art stations provided by DREAMS of Wilmington. There will also be free face painting and drumming. Leland Parks and Rec. will provide hot dogs and drinks. Art activities are geared for ages 8 and up, but all ages are welcome to attend. February 16 A Bark in the
Park
A Bark in the Park is an event centered on people and their dogs! This event will include a free rabies clinic, contests (cutest dog, look‐a‐like and best trick) and prizes, a dog adoption, demonstrations and more from other pet businesses in Leland and surrounding areas. Come out and enjoy a day in the park with your best friend! Sponsored by Capeside Animal Hospital. March 9 Come celebrate Groundhog Day by taking a run through Leland's newest park! The Whistle Pig will be held at Westgate Nature Park (1260 Westgate Dr.). This event will be fun for the whole family and will feature lots of goodies and surprises for participants. The course will be mostly on‐road with some off‐road elements. February 2 Sea Leland & LWDK
Building on the success of our award‐winning Leland We Don’t Know bus tours, this year along with the bus tours, we will take to the water to explore Leland and northern Brunswick County by boat. We will shove off on the 46‐foot Wilmington from the Wilmington Waterfront and enjoy light snack as we learn about area waterways from naturalist Doug Springer, former Cape Fear River Keeper. This will be a unique experience for both new and long‐time residents alike. The Leland We Don’t Know bus tour will leave from the Recreation Building to explore all parts of Leland. March 23 Egg Hunt
This holiday event features egg hunts for children divided into four age groups (ages 0‐2, ages 3‐5, ages 6‐7 & ages 8‐10), refreshments, prizes and more. March 30 Plant Giveaway Join us for our annual Free Tree and Plant Giveaway to get your free plants to help beautify the town and protect the environment. We will have thousands of trees and plants of many different species to give away. They will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. April 13 Movies in the Park
This year’s family movie series promises to be a summertime hit. Come watch a film under the stars in the Leland Municipal Park, just like in the good old days of drive in movies. Bring your blanket and lawn chairs. April 20 ‐ June 29 (Every other Saturday.) Family Fun Day
Back for it’s second year, Family Fun Day will kick off the Movies in the Park series with a day full of fun and games for families and friends. Come join us for a little fun before settling down to watch a movie under the stars. Concessions will be available. April 20 Concerts on the Coast
Back for its fourth year, this free outdoor concert series promises to Get the Party Started, with some of the Southeast’s best beach and party bands playing in our backyard! Bring your lawn chairs, picnic baskets and dancin’ shoes. Concessions will be available. May 30 ‐ July 11 (Every other Thursday) Light up the Night
Light Up The Night is an event honoring the community’s first responders. A host of emergency agencies will be on hand. Kids will be able to see the vehicles, climb aboard and try the horns and sirens. Bring the whole family out to meet and greet our local firefighters, law enforcement personnel and ambulance drivers. This event will include a tribute banner for community members to sign in support of emergency personnel. There will be a face painting and concessions.
July 20 Fall Concert Series
The Fall Concert Series will have it’s inaugural year in 2013. The series will feature local bands from the Leland Area. Bring your lawn chairs, picnic baskets and dancin’ shoes. Concessions will be available. September 26 ‐ October 24 Founders’ Day Come celebrate Leland’s Birthday with the Town's biggest party of the year. Join us for food, entertainment, children’s activities, vendors, live auction and FIREWORKS!!! September 14 Trunk or Treat
Want to take your kids trick or treating in a safe, fun environment? Then Leland’s Trunk or Treat event is for you. We are asking businesses, community organizations and parents to decorate their trunks and pass out goodies on Halloween evening. There will be prizes for the most impressive displays. The Town will provide bouncy rides for the kids. October 26 Leland Campfire
There may be nothing better than sitting next to a warm crackling campfire on a brisk evening. We invite you to join us at Westgate Nature Park (1260 West Gate Dr.) for an evening of campfire tales and s'mores at the Leland Community Campfire. Just bring your chair and a blanket and get ready for a cozy evening with your neighbors. November 16 Breakfast with Santa
Enjoy a fun‐filled morning complete with breakfast. Entertainment includes an art sta‐
tion with a take‐home holiday craft and of course, story time with Old Saint Nick himself. Parents are welcome to take pictures of their children with Santa so make sure you bring your camera! December 17 Leland's Little Learners
This free program for children ages 3‐5 seeks to stimulate the minds of Leland’s children through story time, arts and crafts/activities and time outside on the playground! During the program, parents or guardians must remain with their children. Leland's Little Learners meet every Tuesday at 9am in the Classroom Annex . Line Dancing
The Town of Leland, in partnership with volunteer teacher Carla Jacobs, is offering free line dancing lessons for residents. Bring your dancing shoes and get ready to meet some new friends and have a great time. The line dancers meet every Tuesday at 10:30am in the Classroom Annex. Leland's Hometown Opry
Ready for some pickin and grinnin? The Town of Leland is sponsoring a twice‐monthly bluegrass/country/gospel/
folk jam session at the Leland Recreation Building. Musicians of all levels of experience are welcome to attend. Spectators are welcome to come sit a spell and enjoy the music. Leland’s Hometown Opry meets the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 7pm in the Classroom Annex. create...
create... is an art program designed to introduce people to new types of art while enjoying fellowship with friends. The program will occur twice monthly with a new and exciting project at every meeting. create... will meet in the Classroom Annex. Expressive Art Group
Do you love to paint? Bring whatever you are working on and join others in a supportive environment. All mediums (oils, acrylic, watercolor, pencils) are welcome. This will be a gathering place to share ideas and learn other techniques. The Expressive Art Group meets on the first and third Thursday from 2 pm to 4 pm in the Classroom Annex. Scrapbooking Group
Have you caught the scrapbooking bug? Bring your latest scrapbooking project and join others in a fun, supportive environment. The group meets on the second Saturday of the month from 9am until 9pm in the Classroom Annex. Leland Arts

The Leland Arts Alive! program seeks to provide an outlet for our area’s many talented youth artists. LA Alive is currently being hosted at Lincoln Elementary on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. Common Threads
Do you love to knit or crochet? Are you looking for a place to get together with others to share your craft? Have you always been interested in the needle arts, but wondered how to get started? Then the Common Threads group is for you. All levels are invited to attend from beginner to advanced. Just bring your current project or materials to start a new one. Common Threads meets the second and fourth Friday of the month at 10am in the Classroom Annex. Common Threads:

Common Threads: After Dark group is just like Common Threads but at night. All levels are invited to attend from beginner to advanced. Just bring your current project or materials to start a new one. Like to play in the dirt? Then the Leland Garden Club is for you. This is an opportunity for all of Leland’s gardeners to come together to learn more and work on a variety of beautification projects. The Garden Club meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm in the Classroom Annex. Wild Bird Walks
Leland Parks and Recreation has partnered with Wild Bird and Garden to host Wild Bird Walks. This is a great opportunity to get out in nature and learn about the different species of birds in our area. The experts from Wild Bird and Garden will be there as your guides. Bring your water bottle, binoculars and bug spray. Walks will be on the second Thursday of every month starting in March. Leland Community Garden Love to see the fruits of your hard work come into full bloom, but short on space around your house? Want to work a plot in a supportive environment with other gardeners like you? Then the Leland Community Garden is for you. Plots are now available at the Leland Community Garden, across from Town Hall on the Leland Municipal Campus. Wednesdays inNature
The Town of Leland is again partnering with UNCW’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) to offer the popular Wednesdays in Nature series where various experts speak on the nature, beauty and history of the Cape Fear region. Healthy Living Leland
Fitness Programs
Our own health can easily escape our attention during the busy times in our lives. Being healthy, active and taking care of ourselves can help us enjoy a higher quality of life. Join us each month as we learn how to make nutritious and delicious meals and get active. Each month will have a different health‐related topic and tons of great information, food and prizes. The program meets on the second Tuesdays of the month at 6:30pm in the Classroom Annex. Rev up your metabolism with a challenging full‐body workout combining cardio bursts, athletic drills and strength training exercises. All fitness levels are welcome no matter if you already have a core strength in place and are ready to take your fitness to the next level, or if you are a beginner who needs modifications. Please bring a water bottle, an exercise mat and a towel. These groups of 8 week fitness programs meet on Monday and Wednesday nights at 6:30 pm in the Recreation Building. CPR Certification
Arthritis Exercise Group The Town of Leland is partnering with
Leland Fire and Rescue to offer a CPR
Certification Class. This class will cover
CPR/AED Training and First Aid. Class
dates are T.B.A. and are located at the
Leland Fire and Rescue. Volunteer teacher Edna Roy leads the group through a series of chair‐aided group exercises designed to help the joints and muscles of people struggling with arthritis or other joint and muscle issues. This low‐impact group is great for seniors. The group meets each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 1:45pm in the Classroom Annex.
