To help put things in focus, think about: • Who does your vision serve? • What do you want your community to look like? • Who would you bring to the table to plan active transportation within your community? • Who will benefit from or be helped by this policy? • Who has the power to make this vision reality? Active Transportation Plan Guidance • Data Collecting and Existing Conditions ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ Is there a current bike/ped master plan? Is there a ‘Safe Routes to School’ program? What does your community currently look like? Where do people walk and/or bike? Needs Assessment ▫ Identify gaps and barriers ▫ Are there high-conflict zones that need addressed? ▫ Identify policy and programmatic deficiencies 5 Examples: Sidewalks? Vacant homes? Examples: Bike-Share? Street Design? ACTIVITY TWO: DESCRIBE YOUR COMMUNITY • Based upon the previous questions about data collecting, existing conditions, and needs assessment; think about and write down how your community feels to you. What’s missing? Where do people gather? Is Active Transportation encouraged? • Activity TWO will be both independent and group discussion.
