January 2015 Towne Meadow Crier Ari Herold, Editor in Chief HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOWNE MEADOW CRIER This is the one-year anniversary edition. I am so happy about how much the paper has grown in just one year. We have been able to bring you lots of new features thanks to all of the people who are committed to helping make the Towne Meadow Crier the top paper in school. It’s hard to believe that one year ago, I, Ari Herold, was the only one doing this. Then, just one month later, more students joined me. Over the year, nine other students have written for the paper. Thank you to all of our writers for your hard work! Our Reporters Avery Fox Hailey Fox, TME graduate Teddy Ginstling Sally Griswold Tate Horsley Anna Sears Emily Switzer Lydia Teeter Richard Zhang I hope we didn’t miss anybody! A house that people used to live in? Mama Carolla’s used to be a house for more than three families, a factory, and more! Now, it’s one of my favorite Italian restaurants. My first tip to tell you is that you don’t want to finish, or even get close to finishing your appetizer. It’s so filling, you won’t have enough room in your stomach for the meal! Also, you always want to try and get to Mama Carolla’s before it opens, because it’s super crowded. My favorite dish is Chicken Parmesan. It has cheese and lots of tomato sauce and it is really good. I’ve had it at a lot of different restaurants, but no one makes it as good as Mama Carolla’s. My sister’s favorite dish is Pasta Alfredo. (They are both pretty cheesy!) MEET THE STUDENT Correction: Last month we mistakenly listed our student as Emily Escobar when her name Kyra. Sorry Kyra! By Emily Switzer Kyra Escobar Grade: 3rd Teacher: Mrs. Baldwin Favorite Color: Purple Favorite Food: Noodle Soup (with no chicken) Hobbies: Taekwondo, running, and drawing Siblings: Gabriel Escobar For dessert, I recommend the cannoli. It is a crunchy shell filled with ricotta cheese (it doesn’t taste anything like cheese). I also like tiramisu. I like Mama Carolla’s because it feels like you are eating at home. The food is really awesome at Mama Carolla’s. ABOUT THE EDITOR My name is Ari Herold. I am in Mrs. Blake’s second grade class. I made this paper because I thought the school needed a newspaper, and it would make kids interested in new things. JOIN OUR TEAM! We are always looking for new writers! If you want to be a part of The Towne Meadow Crier, email us at TowneMeadowCrier@gmail.com. Photo courtesy of Oliver Zhu My friends and I went skiing several times this winter break. This place is called Perfect North Slope where Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio meet. When we arrived at the parking lot, there were lots of cars. I saw people coming down zigzag from the slopes and heard woo-hoo sounds. It must be fun and I couldn’t wait to get on the lift. There were several lifts that you could take and they were named by colors. The green one was for beginners and the blue one was a little harder. The orange one was harder than the green and blue, but it was really fun and was my favorite. It led to two trails, the Far Side and Clyde’s Super Slide. I loved them. The Far Side was about one mile long and Clyde’s Super Slide was connected to other two trails. I have done the red lift that was the second hardest. It also had several different trails that you could go down. Now the hardest of all was the white one. I had gone on it once but I didn’t like it. I could also go up a slope by rope instead of a lift. Yes, a rope could pull people up and reach to the top of a small hill. Down Slide was a terrain park where people could do tricks on bumps and rails. My friends and I loved to race each other on the slopes. Sometimes we even swooped down in a formation. I could feel wind blowing on my face. It was so cool, but of course sometimes made me freeze to death. It was time to take a break. We rushed to the lodge. Pizza, hot chocolate and games were waiting for us. What a fun trip it was! Towne Meadow Crier Page 3 of 3
