CLASS STRUCTURES 2016: At last week’s Parent Forum l presented a model
of class structures for next year which effectively meant that all year levels
would be placed into straight classes eg primary staging would be replaced
with 2 x Year 6 classes; 2 x Year 5 classes. Some of the advantages for such
a change include:
 The new Australian Curriculum lends itself more towards year specific
standards rather than Stages.
 It allows greater flexibility with our timetables in the primary classes eg
mathematics.
 A consistent whole school approach to straight Year level classes.
 Lends itself to less disruption for key school events for particular Year
 levels eg. NAPLAN, Year 6 College Orientation.
 Units of Work would operate in Yearly sequence—same as Infants model.
 The decision of straight classes was unanimously supported by our teaching staff.
In making this change it does not mean that Staging has not worked. No matter which grade structure was implemented, our school would always provide
a "differentiated" curriculum catering for each child's individual needs. However the factors listed above lends itself to our school making a shift.
MOUNT ST PATRICK COLLEGE: Mr Tony Daly recently announced to the
school community his intention to resign as College Principal at the end of the
school year. Mr Daly has been Principal at the College for 17 years. An appointment for a new Principal will be made in Term 4.
Enjoy your week!

MINI VINNIES
On Tuesday 27th July, our Mini-Vinnies group went to visit the St
Vincent de Paul Centre on Murwillumbah St.
Lilly, Amber, Miranda, Charlie, Abbey, Bella and I, accompanied
by Mrs Zambelli, were shown around the whole place. Mrs Bernadette Barnes told us how the clothing, toys and other things which
we donate come through from the loading bay at the back of the
shop and are sorted by ladies (and some men) into different
bags. Some things are useful to sell in the shop, some are sent to
Lismore to be sent overseas to poorer countries and some are
good for rags which are sold to places like garages and other
workshops. After they are sorted the items for sale are priced
and taken out into the shop where they are put into different
categories, e.g. boys shirts, ladies jeans. The ladies behind the
counter sell the things to the customers and the money raised goes
to help poor people.
Some of us were
very surprised to
find out that all the
people working
there are volunteers, which means
that they don’t get
any money for the
time they work
there.
Thank you to Mrs Barnes and the Tuesday staff for showing us
around.
RSPCA FUNDRAISER
As of week 4 Mini-Vinnies will be holding a colouring in competition to help the RSPCA . To enter your picture is 50c. Your teacher
will give you the picture to colour, then you bring them to the
fake grass at recess on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday with the
50c. The prizes are all to do with colouring and drawing.
Kiara, Olivia, and Tiffany.

DIOCESAN ATHLETICS CARNIVAL: We wish our 16 representatives all the best at the
Diocesan Athletics Carnival on Friday and wish them safe travel. Unfortunately Shayah and Jaxon were absent for the photo.
DIOCESAN NETBALL COMPETITION: The Mt Saint Patrick’s Girls Netball team played a great game against St Joseph’s on
Tuesday morning. Their team spirit and positive attitude remained throughout the game, despite their loss. The girls’ defence
improved as the game wore on, causing St Joseph’s scoring rate to slow by the third quarter. Both teams were very competitive and it was an exciting game to watch. The girls should be commended for reaching the finals and conducting themselves
with Heart and Pride throughout the competition. Well done!!

50th Anniversary
Mt St Patrick Regional High School
2016 is the 50th Anniversary of the opening of Mt St Patrick Regional
High School, Murwillumbah in 1966. This milestone is one of the most
significant events in the history of Mt St Patrick College and will be recognised accordingly. The organising committee is considering producing a 50th Anniversary Book with the main focus on school day memories from the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s. We need your help to ensure that the
book goes ahead. Written contributions from ex-students no matter how large or small, would be
greatly appreciated. Photographs will be scanned and returned immediately.
For planning purposes, it would be much appreciated if written contributions and photos are left at
or posted to Mt St Patrick College (PO Box 105, Murwillumbah) or emailed to
mspcmbah@lism.catholic.edu.au by Wednesday 26th August. Thank you for considering this special
request and for making our 50th Anniversary significant for past, present and future members of this
community.

Brett Lee – Cyber Safety Expert not the Cricketing Legend
Brett Lee worked as a Queensland Police Officer for 22 years. In his investigative role he spent thousands of hours assuming fictitious online identities
to locate and remove criminals from the cyber environment. Brett has been
a teenage girl on the internet longer than nearly any real teenage girl. He had some incredibly valuable tips for
parents to encourage them to ensure a safe online experience. Brett Lee will be presenting a workshop for parents on Online Safety and Cyberbullying at St Anthony’s Primary School Kingscliff on Thursday, October 15.
