LEARN about a legend Teacher’s Guide Aim: THE COLLECTION Champions Brock Experience aims to provide students and teachers with a vast history of Australia’s greatest motor sporting personality and the times during which he raced. Peter Brock’s racing career spread over almost 40 years and many changes can be seen during this time. Foyer: Peter Champion Collection Peter Brock’s history is an important part of Australia’s sporting history; with having won the Bathurst 1000km race an unmatched 9 times, making Brock the “King of the Mountain”. Peter Brock underwent many difficult times throughout his career and through it all he remained positive and upbeat. His courage and determination shows the next generation what it takes to be successful and get through some difficult times. In this area you will find some heritage machinery parts along with a few uncommon vehicles that are not normally found in Australia such as a Boss Hoss motorbike, Dodge Viper and 1972 Corvette Stingray. We have a number of questions that relate to this area, these questions require the children to observe the area and read the information boards. Past the Curtain: Peter Brock Collection For each group of students we recommend an adult supervisor that can read the informational guide book. From this guide book and observation students can find the answers to the question sheet provided. Background Information: Champions Brock Experience is the private collection of Peter Champion of Peter Brock road and race cars. The collection has a total of 40 cars, including a small amount of tribute cars to complete the Brock racing history. The collection starts with Brock’s racing career in 1967 and continues through the years until 2004. Some of the changes that occur throughout this period include the changes in roll-cage specifications and design, racing classes along with body modifications and style changes which can also be seen as the students proceed through the collection. Introduction to Learn about a Legend. Peter Brock is an icon of Australian motor sporting history. In Central Queensland we are fortunate enough to have the largest collection of Peter Brock road and race cars in the country along with many countless items of memorabilia. The collection is owned by Peter Champion, a friend of Brock’s from the time the pair first met at a charity event in the mid 1990’s. Champions Brock Experience in Yeppoon started as a dream between friends and ended up as a world class facility. At the Experience you will view some of the very first race cars with the Fronty Fords in the foyer before moving into the main collection the boasts over 40 years of racing history. Peter Brock began racing in 1967 with a modified Austin A30 and he continued to race through the many changes of motorsport. He began his mainstream career in 1969 with a HT Monaro, which he raced in the Group C class (this is an Australian format of racing), in 1985 the category changed to the Group A era and Brock continued to race through the years even into the modern day V8 Supercar category. All of these chapters are reflected here in this collection. Brock retired from motorsport in 1997 but he continued to race in various events. These events included a number of rally events. Champions Brock Experience displays four of the Targa Tasmania cars along with two off road rally cars. Targa events are a road rally so there are a number of differences between the road and off-road rally cars that can be seen. We also have almost a decade of road car history with the specialised vehicles of HDT. HDT Special Vehicles was the car manufacturing company that was started by Peter Brock in 1980. HDT would sell modified Holden Commodores through their dealer network. The manufacture of these cars shows the modifications that can be applied to a base road car model. Peter Brock had a strong belief in the next generation and we would like to continue that was left by his untimely death in 2006. Peter Brock was not only a sports person with a unique skill to master a race car but he was also an inspiration to all. Peter Brock was invited in 2000 to the Sydney Olympics as an Olympic Liaison Officer; he was the first person to be honoured with this selection that had not competed at an Olympic Games event. Brock would return in 2004 when Australia competed in the Olympics at Athens. Pricing: Champions Brock Experience is the perfect opportunity to teach your students about the changes in Australia’s motor sporting history and the history of road cars but Peter Brock’s number one lesson can be that all it takes is determination to achieve your dreams. Peter Brock would often sign many autographs and many of them were adorned with a few simple phrases that he chose to live his life by: “Life Live”, “Follow your dreams”, “Enjoy the moment”. 15 – 29 students 1 supervisor FOC OPTION 1: Available to groups of 10 students plus Guided Tour (20-30 mins) Souvenirs Includes: worksheets Normal Guided Tour $ 32/ad and $14/ch Pricing $18 per adult / $10 per child 30 – 44 students 2 supervisors FOC 45 – 60 students 3 supervisors FOC 60 + students 4 supervisors FOC OPTION 2: Available to groups of 10 students plus Light and Sound Show (15 mins) Guided Tour (20-30 mins) Applying to the Classroom: Souvenirs A visit to Champions Brock Experience can be a great way to learn about Australia’s motor sporting history and the legend that will live on… Peter Brock.
