“THE TWO PHASES OF THE SECOND COMING” Rom. 13:11-14, Titus 2:11-14 Rom. 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. The Rapture is a term for “catching away” the saints. The Revelation is term for when Christ returns to establish His Kingdom on the earth. I. THE CLARITY FROM CONFUSION THROUGH SCRIPTURE A. The Approach 2 Pet. 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. B. The Application 2 Tim. 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. The “Mountain Peaks” of Prophecy Birth of Christ Descent of Holy Spirit The coming of The Sun of Righteousness (Malachi 4) The New Earth Isa. 53:1-12 What the pro phets saw Pentecost Calvary Antichrist Dan. 7:19-27 Joel 2:28-29 The Valley Of the Church Olivet The Millennial Valley (The prophets did not see this) The Old Testament Valley The viewpoint of the Prophets Our View Point We see the Mountain Peaks & Valleys from the side, And so we can separate the 1st & 2nd Coming Prophecies Created by Clarence Larkin 3 THE SECOND COMING http://www.rapturewatch.net/apps/forums/topics/show/3665969what-is-the-difference-between-the-rapture-and-the-secondcoming-?page=last THE CONTRAST AND COMPARISON OF SCRIPTURE TWO PHASES OF THE SECOND COMING The Rapture/Blessed Hope 1. Christ comes in the air for His own 2. Rapture of all Christians 3. Saved go to the Father’s House 4. No judgment on earth 5. Saints taken to heaven The Glorious Appearing 1. Christ comes with His own to earth 2. No one raptured 3. Resurrected saints do not see Father’s house. 4. Christ judges inhabitants of earth 5. Christ sets up His Kingdom on earth 6. Imminent – happening any moment 6. Cannot occur for at least 7 years 7. No signs 7. Many signs for Christ’s return 8. For believers only 8. Affects all humanity 9. Time of joy 9. Time of mourning 10. Before “day of wrath” (Tribulation) 10. Immediately after Tribulation 11. Satan bound 1000 years 12. No time or place for judgment 11. No mention of Satan 12. The Judgment Seat of Christ 13. Marriage of the Lamb 14. Only His own see Him 15. Tribulation begins 16. The rapture is a mystery 17. Israel unaffected 18. Creation unchanged 19. The Lord is “at hand” 20. The Message = COMFORT 13. His bride descends with Him 14. Every eye will see Him 15. 1000-year reign of Christ begins 16. “Revelation” in both Testaments 17. All covenants for Israel fulfilled 18. Creation affected 19. The Kingdom is “at hand” (Mt. 24:14) 20. The Message = Judgment II. THE CONVICTION AND COMMITMENT TO SCRIPTURE A. The Response to this Doctrine Rom. B. The Responsibility of Dedication Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. Conclusion Phil. 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 1 Pet. 4:7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. 2 Thess. 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. 22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: 23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 1 Jn. 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
