“A Collection of Disorganized Thoughts”
Hi everyone and welcome to the hot, rainy,
muggy days of Summer. Hope you're staying
cool because I bet wherever you are; it's
probably either steaming, or pouring outside
right now; so grab a cold drink, go somewhere
cool and quiet, and enjoy your newsletter.
Boys will be girls and girls will be boys
What I'm going to write about is not meant to
offend anyone. In fact, as you'll see I find this
subject highly interesting from the standpoint of
human behavior and what drives people to do
what they do.
If I hadn't become a cop, I might have
considered becoming a psychologist (added to
the list of other things I've previously said I
wanted to do) or something of that nature,
because I'm one of those guys that, although I
hate to shop, will agree to go to a mall as long as
I can grab a cup of coffee, sit down on a bench,
watch the parade go by. People fascinate me,
and I can go to any mall in the country and be
entertained just watching people and how they
conduct themselves.
Let me just get to the point. Remember Bruce
Jenner? Bruce (ugh, now Caitlyn Jenner) is a
well known sports and entertainment figure who
won a gold medal in the Olympics and became a
national hero. Nowadays, Jenner is enjoying
Summer weather right now in her teeny, tiny,
bikini. Oh yeah, Jenner finally revealed himself
in the June issue of Vanity Fair magazine. He's a
full blown woman now; and he looks pretty hot
too, according to his cover photo in the
magazine.
Many years ago I was curious. Not about me,
but about this phenomenon of men who grew up
unhappy living in their own skins because they
really wanted to be women, and vice versa. At
the time I was working night clubs and started
running into these guys that we called "he-shes".
They were transvestites. Most of the
transvestites were men dressing (and living) as
women, not the other way around. We did
encounter women dressing as men, but that
transformation wasn't as interesting.
Nowadays, I believe the correct term is
"transgender" and it has for the most part
become accepted in a lot of ways. One
interesting thing though. Back in the 1980's,
when the Mariel refugees began to enter this
country, some of them were already transgender.
Again, they looked good as women, and it was
hard to tell they weren't.
I cannot recall a time back in those days when
any of my coworkers mistreated them in any
fashion. This was during a time when cops were
less "tolerant" of folks that were "different". Yes
it happened, we all know it did, because it was a
different place and time. For some reason, they
were seen as interesting people who had a
harmless agenda. Of course, nowadays we know
more about people because we educated
ourselves.
In fact, when I worked the hooker detail in SIU,
we encountered a lot of transvestites. It was
always almost impossible to tell they were men.
Except for the fact that most if not all still had
their "manly equipment", the women looked
pretty good. If you looked close, you could see
the Adams apple. There also those times when
men (including undercover cops) were tricked
by "tricks" into believing they were with
women. I'm sure this evoked different reactions,
some not so pretty.

Well, getting back to Jenner, I admire
someone who picks a road they want to
take in life, and goes down that road, even
if it means taking a lot heat for it. But I
draw the line at calling him a hero. Yeah,
I've heard that. There are true heroes in this
world, and Jenner is far from being one.
However, that being said, Caitlyn Jenner
does have a lot of balls....well...maybe not
so much anymore.

July 4th is
approaching
soon and it's
one of my
favorite
holidays
because it's a joyful holiday that in part
showcases the American flag and
everything it represents. I display my flag
proudly in front of my house all day and all
night. In reality, I'm supposed to take down
the flag at night unless it's illuminated,
which it's not. But I'm lazy, so it stays up. I
replace the flag with a new one when it
wears out. I make sure its disposed of
properly, and I also make sure the
replacement is made in the USA and not in
China, so I read the package very carefully.
Go figure, how disrespectful is it to sell
American flags made in China? But people
do.
It drives me out of my mind to see news
stories of people stomping on the flag, but
when those people are Americans, doing it
on American soil, it infuriates me in ways I
cannot even describe. How dare they? Yes.
I know they have the right. The same
freedoms provided to these slimy cretins
from hell by everything that flag represents
is the same freedom to desecrate that flag.
How nice! I don't know what I'd do if I saw
someone doing that to an American flag in
front of me, because I certainly don't want
to go to jail, so I don't want to think about
it.
property, with the college's full knowledge
and without consequences, it just makes me
realize that the future of this country is not
a bright one. Where did these little snot
nosed rat bastard punks learn this? Oh,
sorry I forgot. They're the same little snot
nosed rat bastard punks that put on their
stupid little masks and go on anti-cop
protests with the other brain dead dregs of
society. The larger question begs. Why do
colleges condone this kind of behavior? I
thought higher learning institutions existed
to make people....better. I guess I'm
mistaken.
CORRECTIONAL OFFICER in that
television show, I'd refuse until that lawyer
addressed me correctly. It's "Officer" NOT
"guard". Guard means something like night
watchman or mall cop. A correctional
officer is a trained and certified, albeit not
very well paid law enforcement (sort of)
officer. He or she should be addressed in a
respectful manner. If I were a correctional
officer, I'd feel better being called
"zookeeper". At least that title is held in a
little higher esteem than "guard". I'm sure
that lawyer would not take kindly to being
called "mouthpiece". Hope I made my
point.
Oh and by the way. There has been a lot of
controversy over the Confederate flag. All
of a sudden, everybody wants it taken
down because some say its represents
oppression. Others say it represents
Southern pride. I could care less about the
Confederate flag. It means nothing to me.
Where I live, I see it a lot more than I used
to in South Florida. Some of the folks
displaying it around these parts aren't the
kind of people I'd invite to Thanksgiving
dinner. But that's ok. The only flag that
means anything to me is the American flag.
And that's that!
Speaking of security guards, I've always
made it a point to call them "officer"; and if
they had rank, I'd address them by their
rank. Security guards take a lot of crap.
They're generally held in low esteem by the
general public, and often called "rent a
cops". Mall cops and night watchmen are
examples of security guards that have
always been the butt of jokes because
they're seen as "cop wannabees". This may
be true in some instances, but the truth of
the matter is, they perform honest work for
crappy pay, and they do get killed from
time to time. Because of these things, I
always made it a point to treat them with
dignity. They're not used to that. What a
shame.
PS- Do they make Confederate flags in
China?
Who’s the Top Cop?
The
Would you like to know what drives me Rifleman
crazy? Yes I know, everything. But one of
the things that really drive me crazy is
when some television reporter or anchorperson refers to the Attorney General of
United States, or some local state's attorney
as the "top cop". With the exception of
someone like Dennis Ward, who was a cop
before he was state's attorney, I think
calling a lawyer a top cop is a slap in the
face to every cop in this country. The
attorney general or the state's attorney is
just that-a lawyer. I know I'm being silly,
but I don't go around telling people I'm a
doctor because I gave somebody a band
aid. Yes I know, not a good analogy but I'm
so aggravated right now that my mind is a
fog.
It also greatly disturbs me when a lawyer
(on a television show like Law and Order)
visits a client in jail, and when he's done
with the visit, he yells "guard!" Of course,
the lawyer is calling the

program that
ran for about five seasons in the late 50's
and early 60's. The show was about a
rancher and single father played by Chuck
Conners. The part of his son was played by
Johnny Crawford.
Chuck Conners played Lucas McCain, and
his character was the epitome of cool.
Regardless of what he was doing at the
time, whether it was roping cattle, riding a
horse, or getting into a gunfight with
multiple subjects, his pulse never got above
50. Well, that's not true, I have no friggin
idea what his vital signs were...but let's just
say the guy was cool.

In one recent episode, there were so many
similarities to current events, that it was
almost scary. The episode was about a
horse drawn "paddy wagon" full of
condemned prisoners being transferred to
another facility that stopped in town for the
night. The two "correctional officers"
doing the transport were sloppy, careless,
and exhausted. A bad combination. As a
result, the unthinkable happened.
One thing led to another, and the prisoners
were able to overtake one of the officers,
open the wagon door and escape, along
with the rest of the prisoners. Rather than
run away however, they decided to remain
in town, take hostages, and create havoc.
Of course, after an all night standoff with
the escaped prisoners, Lucas McCain with
his trusty and popular lever action rifle,
along with the Town Sheriff saved the
hostages, and killed all of the bad guys.
Case closed.
happened the previous night. Mark asked
his dad if it was possible to "lose the
town". He went on to say that if those men
wanted to, they could have taken our town
away from us. Lucas told his son that "yes,
they could have physically taken the town
away, but they couldn't have kept it. It
takes more than just guns to take a town
back. The time a town or even a country is
really lost is when the people who live in it
get careless, and stop paying attention to
the way it's being run". Lucas went on to
tell his son that we need to know our
history, so we don't make the same
mistakes over and over again.
Interesting isn't it? That conversation took
place about 55 years ago on an episode of
a TV program about western ranchers. Sort
of....insignificant huh? But if you think
about it, look at what has happened in
Ferguson, Baltimore, Chicago, the Middle
East, etc.... We're losing cities, towns, and
whole countries to the bad guys. History
repeats itself. We haven't learned anything.
I hope you enjoyed this month's column,
The following evening, Mark McCain and and I'll see you in August. Maybe. If I feel
his dad had a heart to heart talk about what up to it. Having a little surgery. Nothing to
worry about. Be good folks!

George & Linda Lerra-Great Patriots! - As most of you
know, Retired Lieutenant George and his stunning wife Linda divide their
time between Florida and Massachusetts. Their winter home is in beautiful
Cocoa Beach, and as such, they are great supporters of NASA, the
Kennedy Space Center, and the current SpaceX rocket program. In fact,
George has been lending his support to all of our nation's space programs
since their inception way back in 1898.
Family Pride - Retired Sgt. Paul Masters is proud to report that
his son, BSO Detective Nicholas Masters was presented with the
"SHERIFF'S SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD" for his excellence
in investigation and for training other detectives in Child Exploitation
and Human Trafficking Investigations. Nick was presented with his
award at a ceremony held at the Signature Grand in Davie on April
29th. Congratulations to Nick and his proud Dad Paul!
Recently, when a SpaceX rocket carrying food and supplies to the
International Space Station blew up minutes after lift-off,
destroying itself along with its pricy payload, our famous couple
wasted no time, and immediately launched (no pun intended)
themselves into action.
With their 2008 PISS (Personal Intergalactic Space Shuttle) in the
shop for routine maintenance (oil change, rotate the retro rockets,
change the meteor filter), they called around and were able to
borrow one from a friend. They found a baby sitter for the cat,
threw together a quick suitcase, and were off!
George and Linda stopped at Wal-Mart and gathered some goodies
for the astronauts such as pop tarts, TV dinners, chips, cold cuts,
sodas, and other assorted snacks. Next stop, ABC Liquors where
George picked up refreshments (Grey Goose, Captain Morgan's,
and Chivas) specially packaged in their little space tubes.

Assistant Chief Lou Fata - On Friday, June 19th, 2015,
Retiree Lou Fata was officially from Major to Assistant Chief of the
South Miami Police Department. The following announcement was
copied from South Miami PD's Facebook page:
Congratulations going out to our very own Lou Fata who received a
promotion on Friday, adding this distinction to his already decorated
career. Chief Landa stated "It gives me great pleasure to announce that
this afternoon I took the liberty of promoting Major Louis Fata to the
rank of Assistant Chief of Police. I am honored to say that over the 35
years I have been in law enforcement, Lou brings to the table an
incredible amount of knowledge and full understanding of how a law
enforcement organization functions from top to bottom". We are all so
happy for you Sir!
Another MBPD retiree becomes a chief,
adding to the long list of police
chiefs we've produced. Congratulations to
Lou and his family, we are proud of you!
Our benevolent couple gassed up at KSC and took off for the flight
to the ISS. Upon their arrival, they quickly docked with the station
and were met by some very grateful and relieved astronauts. After
exchanging pleasantries, dropping off the goodies, and sharing a
few drinks, it was time to fly back to Earth. The couple said their
goodbyes, fired up their rockets and dipped back down into Earth's
atmosphere, landing back in their condo's parking lot in time for a
nice seafood dinner.
I'd like to point out that while enjoying the company of the
astronauts inside the ISS, George had just a few too many space
drinks, so Linda became the 'designated flyer'. As you all know,
attempting to re-enter the Earth's atmosphere while under the
influence is against the law and punishable by heavy fines and
possible suspension of your space license for a period not to exceed
5 million light years.
Once again, we thank George and Linda Lerra for their selfless
support of our space program. They are true patriots in every sense
of the word!

Dwayne's GO FUND ME page:
On May 26th, 2015, Dwyane Mitchell, (Chris' son and
Shantell's step son), a senior at G. Holmes Braddock High
School was found unresponsive by his grandmother. Dwayne's
older brother performed CPR until Miami Dade Fire Rescue
arrived. Dwayne clinically died several times during the CPR
efforts. He was transported to Jackson South Hospital where
doctors determined Dwayne went into Cardiac Arrest.
It was later determined that Dwayne had an undiagnosed heart
disease called Wolff-Parkinson-White. This heart disease is
extremely rare and went undetected, even though Dwayne was a
high school athlete and in great shape. Dwayne was taken into
the ICU with severe swelling to the entire brain. He was treated
in the ICU for ten days until doctors later determined that there
was no more that could be done and Dwayne would not survive
this ordeal. Without hesitation, the family sought a second
opinion from one of the top Neurologists in South Florida.

A RETIRED STATE POLICE SERGEANT
WRITES:
An open letter to President Obama, Attorney
General Eric Holder, Mayor Bill DeBlasio
(New York), and Reverend Al Sharpton, in
regards to “Retraining of Law Enforcement
Officers . . .
Dear Sirs,
Contrary to what you gentlemen might believe,
my "training" to become a Law Enforcement
Officer started long before the police academy.
It started long before I even thought of
becoming a police officer. You see, gentlemen,
my training started shortly after I was born and
it started right in my own home. My parents, my
family, my relatives, my siblings, my friends’
parents, my neighbors, my church, my school,
my teachers, my athletic coaches .... all played a
part in my training . . .
From a very early age I was “training” to be
respectful .... compassionate ....
understanding .... strong .... determined ....
courageous ..... faithful .... and above all ....
responsible for my own actions ...
What I learned in the academy is that every
recruit/cadet had about the same 'training' that I
had. We all arrived with the same morals and the
same goals. We all wanted to "Protect &
Serve" .... What didn’t matter was skin color,
gender, ethnicity or religion...
Throughout the academy, the previously
mentioned attributes were discussed at length,
but our “training” also included how to deal
with people who did not have the same level of
“training” that we had come to understand as
normal behavior .
Unfortunately our society has created a gap in
“training” for the less fortunate and the selfentitled. Politicians have promised CHANGE
time and again only to keep dumping mounds of
cash on the situation and never addressing the
real issue. The less fortunate do not need
handouts — they need jobs .... They need to feel
a sense of purpose and self-satisfaction from
accomplishments. Their lack of self worth
becomes an excuse for accepting criminal
behavior as a way of life. Their thought process
is: "If I can't earn what I want, I might as well
take what I can get .... If I'm not accepted by
society, maybe I can be accepted by a
gang . . . ."
Teach a man to fish...
Welfare was not intended to raise 4-5
generations. It was meant to assist those who've
fallen on hard times. With the lack of jobs and
no promise of a future, crime becomes an
acceptable behavior...
Police officers are the "Thin Blue Line" between
a civilized society and total anarchy . The police
did not create this problem . The police did not
make the laws. The police did not create
criminals!
You four gentlemen have made numerous
statements blaming the police and their
“training”. You need to think about your words
that have been spoken in recent speeches and the
statements you've made.
Less than 1% of all police officers are involved
in any misconduct (and this does not mean
criminal misconduct), yet you gentlemen have
made more than your share of statements
inferring that the police are the MAIN
PROBLEM...
When you four gentlemen make statements that
ALL police need “RETRAINING”, you do
exactly what you accuse the police of doing. Mr.
President and Mr. DeBlasio .... there are SOME
politicians who are corrupt, does this mean that
YOU are corrupt? Mr. Holder ....SOME lawyers
are criminals and drug addicts .... Does this
mean YOU are a drug dealer or abuser?
Reverend Sharpton, some men hide behind God
to molest children — are YOU a pedophile!?
Yet all four of you have lumped ALL policemen
and policewomen as racists in need of
“training” .... What’s even worse is that you four
have done this after two recent events and
before ALL THE FACTS were known .... Both
instances, while tragic, had zero evidence of any
racist behavior on the part of law enforcement,
Yet all four of you believe ALL police need
“training" ...
The four of you have failed at your mission .... It
all started by making inflammatory remarks
against police prior to hearing the evidence .... It
continued by all four of you failing to denounce
criminal behavior at so-called “peaceful protests
”, and you have failed by not standing behind
the law of the land when you decided that two
grand juries were wrong — the same laws that
helped you all get the positions you hold today...
The four of you might need some “training” ....
You might need to be reminded that your jobs
are to bring us all together on the RIGHT side of
the law. This will only be accomplished when
gentlemen such as you stop blaming the police
and start teaching men to fish...rather than
giving them a fish . . . . !!
