Honoring a Job Well Done
Parents, faculty, administrators and Mid-Atlantic
Dairy Association recognized the outstanding
efforts of the Fuel Up to Play 60 student teams
in Philadelphia at an awards banquet in April.
Ten middle schools in the School District of
Philadelphia participated in the Fuel Up to Play 60
pilot program during the past two years, creating
engaging programs that impact student wellness.
Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association registered dietitian, Sharon Piano,
educates Washington, D.C. area dietitians about Fuel Up to Play 60
at the District of Columbia Metropolitan Area Dietetic Association
meeting in April.

Dietetic meetings
National Football League consulting
registered dietitians unveiled the dairy
farmer-funded children’s wellness program,
fuel Up to Play 60, to more than 800
registered dietitians in Delaware, Maryland
and Pennsylvania at state dietetic meetings
this spring. Sponsored speakers set the
stage by updating dietitians about the
current child nutrition environment. NFL
registered dietitians issued a call-to-action
for all attendees to lead the charge to
promote and implement fuel Up to Play
60 in their communities. Mid-Atlantic Dairy
Association exhibited at each meeting,
provided supporting materials and initiated
one-on-one discussion with participants.
One school tripled breakfast participation with its
Bring a Buddy to Breakfast program, while other
schools started walking clubs, dancing clubs, snack
markets and more. Dairy farmer Marilyn Hershey
of Cochranville, Pa., thanked participants with a
milk toast during the banquet, while Patty Purcell,
CEO of Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association, assisted in
honoring student teams.
